What Is Everyone's Obsession With Saying 'jdm'?
bozodos replied to Rolls's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I also see a "JDM" car as indeed one which was only sold in Japan and not exported in the same form. I'm going with a popular perception (which will dictate the common usage of the word in the end) versus an absolute definition which applies to all parts of Japanese car culture. Looking at http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jdm the most definition is perhaps the simplest and most verbatim of the lot! I'd love some JDM input into this thread though, they would probably refer to us all as otaku -
will post up as soon as I get my hands on some for my crunchy 3/4 synchros

ahh scathing you do love to present the opposite opinion don't you it's marque by the way, not mark. The problem with making a 100% XY GT (or any muscle car replica up to the HDT's), is that when you do that, there are no guarantees that the next owner of the car isn't going to try and pass it off as the real deal; look at the brock commodores forum for example, fake HDT's are rife, with people known to have stolen blank build plates from HDT in the past, and swapped plates out of other cars. It often comes down to things like seats, and unique mixes of interior items (say map pockets or lack of etc) to try and separate the wheat from the chaff. There are a number of fake GTs around here, with one even being a 6cyl! Not to mention the fake Chargers getting around. That's where I see a bit of deceit going on - for example an XY Fairmont GS being passed off as a "genuine restored GT" at a local car show, despite the build plate giving it away! Due to the insane cost and pointlessness due to the amount of GT-R's I don't see this happening any time in the near future, and yeah GT-R badges are wanky on anything but the real deal, it's like when you see a Commodore Executive with SS or Clubsport badging lol.

Lol I'd love to see a back to back dyno comparison with one of those chips, measuring both power and A:F ratios, would be quite interesting

I had read some very vague information about an RB25 solution, IIRC there was some mention of RB25 ECU tuning on Dr Drift's website. I'm in the same boat, don't worry lol, and am keen to see if any progress has been made, otherwise it's a Z32 for me!

yeah thats the fkn annoying thing about having rankings, is the losers who just sit on there 24/7 and pwn everyone until you have the reflexes of a cat with a caffiene addiction. I'm just playing CS:S til I have the $ to buy the 360 version n go online haha

RB20DET gearbox won't hold 400hp for very long, I've seen them broken with half that power and an enthusiastic driver lol. Not 100%, but you *should* be able to use the auto ECU in a manual no problems, and yes you can run a Stagea motor with an R34 ECU (have seen it done in reverse so I'm assuming that the opposite is true). There may be pinout diagrams somewhere on the site if you're lucky, try asking in the Stagea subforum Dunno if anyone in the US tunes Nistune, but that's what I'd go for extra tuning capabilities or a Power FC

Just don't mention the war! Oh and mainstream motoring mag journos tend to be full of shit; anything with a broad, generally middle aged reader base like Motor, Drive etc, always lauds anything Euro whilst bashing the GT-R.

Ash they were getting police to nab people on Deakin Ave and 15th streets Mildura (the two main highways through town run via these two), and testing at the local Centro carpark. AFAIK it was a one off, but they may do it again in future. Silly really, because of the way word gets around about such things, most of the feral hoons leave the streets within 5 - 10 minutes of finding out about such things, leaving everyone else to get caught out. In fairness I was running a straight 3" pipe with a decat at the time lol, so ended up getting 106db lol. I luckily missed out on copping another 500 dollar fine for the Microtech in my car after discussing with Lou how shithouse it was and my intention to get rid of it (still trying to work out to get a stock ECU running with butchered loom etc). They did 30 cars that night and I'm pretty sure every single one got at least a 500 dollar fine, and I saw a stock Subaru Liberty getting done (I don't know how that came under the classification of 'loud') lol. They took photos of the exhaust and the car etc, I figured that if I at least have something with mufflers next time it's a start . I did get a v. quiet JASMA spec exhaust with two mufflers, but I'm starting to get sick of it being so quiet, so will likely end up getting a Kakimoto Full Mega N1 or something liek that.

or they feel sorry for ya LOL

are you talking about nistune on the RB25DET ecu or a Z32 one?

How Much Do You Spend On A Oil Change ?
bozodos replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
given that Motul is a French brand, I find it ironic that it would be harder to find over there, even in eastern Europe! -
man up rowan! I've done that with my cars, drove them both 1200 odd km from Sydney to here, gives you time to get aquainted with your new ride

Thinking about trying 1.1 mil gapped plugs next time in mine since I am changing them due to carbon fouling every ~10k.

Hicas Light Comes On After High Speeds...
bozodos replied to IM-32-FK's topic in General Maintenance
how interesting, mine does this at literally random times (I drive a 35km stretch of highway at least twice a week, and it only comes on say once every 2 months), or when I'm going on a long trip say to melbourne. I've never worried about it (and I do have a HICAS lockout), but then I do need a wheel alignment badly. -
for some reason my old VN 5 litre absolutely hated United Plus ULP or Boost 98 (wouldn't start properly), but my R32 dosen't seem to mind, but then the Shell across the river sells 98 for the same price as Boost 98 so it's a matter of which one is closer usually. When you have 18L/100 fuel consumption you don't really want to exacerbate it with ethanol fuel though. My GF's Datsun 1200 has been using Plus ULP for at least the past 30 000km, with no problems at all, apart from needing the valve stem seals replaced (which was probably due to one of the previous owners not using Flashlube with the fuel)
-
haha was gonna say that's almost as cool as an R32 but woohoo!
-
haha well I didn't want to test that theory out, funnily enough the testing officer was one Lou Raffa, farken cluey bloke, knew straight up that it had a RB25, MAP sensor based ECU, checked injectors, FPR, turbo etc. It's crap how they can just dish out 500 dollar fines like that though, especially when there's plenty of loud vehicles like Harleys getting around, I'd love to see them give some bikers noise tests lol
-
I'm generally not in a huge rush to play them so why spend 9 bucks lol
-
aha yes that makes sense! I was going to get one until I read just how much they stress a motor out so no not for me personally.
-
marc you're gay and no it's not the same since most non GT-R's have only the rear wing and / or front bar, and are therefore not trying to pass themselves off as one.
-
but since it's an ignition cut, how does that relate to the oil pump?
-
why are they so harsh on oil pumps? Ive read this before but can't work out why.

What Is Everyone's Obsession With Saying 'jdm'?
bozodos replied to Rolls's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Funny you should mention that Scathing, I'm trying to remember where I was reading this, but apparently cars in Japan with anime characters etc and junk all over them are called something which loosely translates to 'stupid car' or something like that lol. Not a fan of that or Bozosuku styling, but that's not really what a gaijin is going to think of straight away when the acronymn JDM is said.
