yep the inherent problem of LS1 powered commo's, shiteloads of power + torque easily, but bloody uncontrollable when giving it stick.

If there's one thing I've learnt in owning cars its the cycle of cheap, reliable, modified, of which a second hand car can only be two of the three terms. I'm glad you've decided to mod your own car, it's a real nightmare trying to work out what previous owners have done (and not always good things either as I've found)

you want one of these turbos http://www.r31house.co.jp/tako_top.html with the exh manifold, put em on a NICS motor and you're (kinda) there!

RB20DET-R also had a awesome cool turbo (TO4E IIRC) which had mega lag. Would be good fun to drive I imagine R31House sell some form of RB20DET-R and can also supply you with a handmade exhaust manifold and Garrett T04E made to their custom specs They also have a "RB25DET-R" motor which I have no idea has in it.

a/m turbo on standard computer isn't going to wreck your engine provided its not boosted or stupidly big, t3/t4 sounds like a cheapo ebay turbo, and boosting at 4500rpm is shocking lol!

I don't own a V8 anymore so I don't need to worry about such things. I've had people try and say that I was losing power when I had a pipe only exhaust or that I was going to wreck my turbo somehow, but since the turbo itself is the main exhaust restriction, I don't see how either is possible.

fuel injected, and the point I'm making is about low down - mid range power, response and torque, which isn't really applicable to a race car

yeah BFF did this S13 conversion and used Z31 rear hubs n S14 5 stud, put in S13 coilovers and used R33 GTS-T brakes (with IIRC an R32 non ABS master cylinder)

haha took us a while to find the drag strip but it definitely is there, hard to launch any kind of RWD with the controller though, its really more suited to using pedals!

btw Tony, on a N/A car you do need a certain amount of backpressure otherwise you start robbing power at low RPM (found this out when I owned a V8, single 2.5 gave a better power range than twin, and tri y extractors outperformed 4 into 1 until up in the revs) in a turbo car your turbo is the restriction, and you want to get rid of the used gas as efficiently as possible

haha yeah as tailgating motorbikes tend to find when I hit the accelerator (typical Microtech overfueling LOL). My high flow cat blocked itself solid within 3 months of me buying it, due to the computer, so a 'race' option was the only way out of it. When I get a computer which runs an 02 and is tuned properly I'll probably lash out and get a metalcat (just have to make sure its EPA compliant so that its not just an expensive waste of time) I have been EPA'd for noise, and the tester mentioned the cat, but it does have one fitted, bit hard to talk your way out of having just a piece of pipe there. You tend to smell the unburnt fuel a lot with no cat, and the smokescreens are bigger, I have a black car so haven't noticed black stuff on the rear bar lol.
