  1. eeiko321, you lost the game on that one I read the same article, I recall seeing the scans on the net ages ago when the Street Commodores forum was having a collective boner over GTS-R's for some unknown reason. I was also merely stating that it was the 'full house' 215kw 355 motor in that particular VR + 6 speed gearbox versing the WRX and the EVO. I can't find the scans of the original article despite extensive googling, but they are out there somewhere. I also had to laugh at this quote from HSV's marketing pitch "HSV expects most buyers to go for the optimised engine blueprinting package which costs an extra $10,000 or so, but worth at least another 10kW to take performance into another dimension." Purpleisafruit : what sort of problems did you have with the 7MGTE? Is that the 3 litre?
  2. Funny you should mention that, all of my Ford owning mates wouldn't even bother with the V8, they even agree that Ford hasn't managed a decent V8 since the 4V 351. I remember reading about the LS1 oil consumption thing back in the day, that and 'piston slap', I believe there was eventually a recall for some of the dodgy motors to get re ringed. My mate was one of the lucky ones who got a well built, non oil using motor that put out 240rwkw out of a grand total of $4000 of mods ($3k being the hand made 4 into 1 DiFillipo extractos and LS1Edit, thats it.) That HSV is the VR GTS-R, from memory there were 80 made, and cost ~$80k when they were released, they had the factory 355 stroker for a total of 215kw and when you bought one new you got flown to HSV and got a tour etc etc and a certificate of ownership. These still attract big dollars, despite the unconventional styling as per the VL Walkinshaw. I found my previous ride, a VN SS to be very reliable mechanically, it was the paint (second paintjob but in acrylic again god knows why), window regulators and never being able to get a decent wheel alignment and constant bush replacing that let it down.
  3. LOL. Do you remember V6 Vengance from Street Commodores? In its final incarnation it ended up with a turbo and respectable quarter mile times, and looked for all intents and purposes like a 500 000km bomb. oh and this old banger lol
  4. I was considering a VT Executive with a manual before I bought the R32, only problem was that I couldn't find one which looked completely and utterly stock.
  5. This might sound bold, but I'd probably go as far to say that the majority of users on here aren't interested in cheap knock off wheels, especially when you were decietful to start with. I'm guessing they are a run of the mill cast rim?
  6. Yeah I was mentioning a previous car I'd owned, mentioning to the OP how I'd had a similar problem with a shaking steering wheel which was almost definitely a hairline crack in the steering rack itself. (also kept having to change rack boots). I no longer own this car thankfully.
  7. haha what about a twin turbo LS1 VT executive on steel wheels with original hubcaps and original interior, + exhaust with lots of mufflers and stock looking tip.
  8. I'll have to look that one up, unless he meant the R35 racing spec or something!
  9. Funnily enough, I checked the rim and it was ok, that problem was also eliminated by driving around with stock rims on the front for a while to see if there was any noticeable difference. I have seen the same thing done and the rim damaged like you mention though.
  10. Is there any way the seller can be reported for attempting to sell a car with an incorrect description? Surely that counts as fraud, especially given the fact that it can't be complied!
  11. Haha I was in a parts shop once in Adelaide, when I saw whatever JDM rim (can't remember the name of), which looks like the Driftek, and when I commented to my mate about it, the owner overheard me and went off his head about Chinese shit etc etc lol. Kinda like those Vork Racing / Ravs Engineering wheels on ebay lol. OP: why bother lying?
  12. Toyota Crown with a 1JZ? HR-31 4 Door w/RB26, since most people can't tell the difference between these and the Aussie made model. Or an Aussie station wagon (a mate literally did a wheelie in front of the cops albeit accidentaly once in his, and they didnt even bother to pull him over.) Umm i don't know about the feasability of it, but one of those pusbox mid 90's magna's with a turbo motor (think faded as shit paint, smashed bumpers, pink playboy seat covers, shazza with screaming brats inside type rig) I've always wanted to make a XD wagon completely mission spec on the outside with roof racks, and a V8 or turbo 6 under the bonnet
  13. A mate pointed out recently that the R35 is apparently faster than the V8 supercars? Maybe they should have a Nissan entry into the Bathurst 1000 again! (oh hang on that would probably start a bogan riot lol)
  14. What a dodgy bastard. Out of interest, why can't it be complied?
  15. Call me sceptical, but this thread seems more like an 'I want a' type thread.
  16. Its always something that gets me going, especially since driving a Jap import in a small town = lots of unwanted opinions on Japanese cars and turbo cars in general.
  17. Hey that's awesome Terry! how did you wangle that one?
  18. IIRC one of the later model Kingswood's had 88kw from the 253, and the Honda Civic of that year was faster according to Wheels magazine (1989 I think). I was also under the assumption that Holden were still exporting to the middle east?
  19. My bad, I recall seeing that pic on Calais Turbo, kind of assumed it was some fully sik bro doing a hectic drift or something.
  20. Is it that big a deal? Lol
  21. I thought it was around 3.45 for the manual, and 3.08 for the automatic, in both ute and sedan.
  22. The only problem is that your hands by that point are already oily and dirty lol.
  23. I was reading something about using Mobil Delvac 5w40 diesel oil a while back.. I wonder if anyone has tried that.
  24. Buy an Aussie R31? Cause you're not going to get anything except for an absolute heap of shit or uncompliable import for that much, realistically.
  25. Actually Clutch, I've seen many Commodores/Falcons of all models in pristine condition with tasteful mods and sane drivers. And not all the younger drivers (I'm betting you're in the under 30 bracket as well), are moronic hoons. FYI with R33 prices as they are ATM, a lot more of the 'box lifters' are getting into imports due to them becoming cheap. You'd probably also find that a good percentage of the Aussie made car sales go towards families, and especially those with a long term brand loyalty, as well as the whole 'Australian Made' concept. It's also handy for a lot of people to buy something that can be serviced or fixed by any old mechanic, with a widespread dealer network as well. I personally find the old model Holdens and Fords to be over-rated, prehistoric junk, with artificially high resale values based on nostalgic memories from middle aged men who thought that the HQ 253 was 'the ducks guts', and who have a collective hard on over cars which compared to anything else in the world at the time were at best mediocre. Whilst I can appreciate the work that people put into restoring them, keeping them maintained etc, I don't drool over them. I've also seen just as many problems with these cars as any other Aussie made ride. Carburettors are shit. I'm sick of people saying that old Holdens/Fords are better made than the new ones. What a crock. It's those same people who claim that new cars are not as safe as the old junkers because they crumple on impact. Or that the GT-R's were 'farkin cheatin carnts' at Bathurst in the early 90's, and that Jap cars are made from 'butter steel', no replacement for displacement, etc etc. If anything there has been constant improvment over the years. That said, I believe that if it wasnt for the government artificially keeping the domestic car manufacturers afloat, they'd go bust (with the possible exception of Holden due to it's export program). I do see a lot of young Falcondore owners being tools, but I've also seen middle aged men in HK Monaro's, VK Group A's, VH Group 3's etc being tools, as well as the 'box lifters' who now own Skylines or WRX's. These days the lines are a lot more blurred, you can't just say that someone is likely to be a hoon due to the type of car they drive.
