Seering Wheel Shaking On Highway, Any Ideas?
bozodos replied to datrat240's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I used to have that problem on my VN, and the one and only thing which temporarily fixed it was getting a proper manual alignment by a steering specialist, as well as getting the wheels rebalanced. In the end I was suspecting a stuffed rack from where I hit a gutter being a dickhead when i first bought it, but I noticed you've already replaced yours. Have you checked your wheels for uneven wear? -
HAHA SO TRUE.

Today Tonight- I Sent A Email Regarding The Car Scene....

Unless it were a deliberate attempt to discredit one of the other channels. -
I was joking... Try putting an ad on a careers website like www.seek.com.au ?

Yeah I've just about hit that point with all of the niggling problems such as boost leaks fooling the EBC and making it overboost, so I can't wind it out for fear of it doing an R&R type thing on me, the inability to get ATTESSA to work with the Microtech (and the fact that it runs so rich i'm forever changing plugs and putting fuel in it), which leaves me with a 1500kg GTS-T, but then I realise that it'd be too difficult to sell here, so I might as well persist with it. That said I do still love driving it, and it's my only car.

Why Shouldnt I Sell The Skyline For A Wrx?
bozodos replied to Julzillionaire's topic in General Automotive Discussion
WRX's also look like a random combination of parts under the bonnet, I'd hate to work on one. They all sound exactly the same, have really high insurance premiums due to the amount of dickheads who own them, and everyone I know with one which is making decent power has had to fit a dogbox to cope with >150kAWKW. -
Yeah I'll go there, as long as you give me the training
-
Unfortunately true. And yes this has been done before, however I've noticed that NSW cops tend to actually defect for unroadworthy things, whereas VIC cops if they want to defect you they just make up excuses about ride height, handbrake clicks, missing tyre placards etc etc. What annoys me the most though is that something that is in fact legal in NSW you can still get done in VIC for.

Are Imports Such As Skyline/supra's Unreliable?
bozodos replied to Fat-magz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Haha no way RE Izuzu motor dude, I know of 4 guys who own em, one had a head crack = $2k of repairs, another had the throttle body stuff up, sensors etc, and for some reason parts for those motors seem to be really hard to source! -
Hehehe yeah I used to get off all the time in my V8, its like cops expect them to be loud or something. If in VIC then I agree that the whole 'canary' thing is just another tool for police to use as harassment / revenue raising, like the unmarked civvy camera cars.

Yeah but when do Toyota's ever break down! -
Running for a couple of minutes helps a LOT with changing oil, unless like me you decided to do an oil change on a 45 degree day in the sun, it was already quite warm in the sump!

I doubt that most people would 'feel' that much of a dramatic change. Nissan specify 7.5w30, and people on here use everything from semi synthetic Motul Turbolight 4100 to Redline or Motul 300v (insane to spend that much on oil for anything other than a track car IMO). I personally use Motul 8100 5w40, which seems to make the turbo spool up slightly quicker than the Castrol EDGE 5w30 I ran previously. Take a look on the first page of the stickied oil thread for more info, I guess it goes as far as you want to read into the specifics of base stocks etc.

Apart from all of the head cracking / general heat issues that plague VL's due to the radiator not being mounted properly? I'd say VN is easily the most reliable Commodore, especially the pov pack ones lol. -
Have you tried researching specs for each? Can't really help you there as I don't own a N/A one or know anyone who does, you might have more luck in the NA section though?

RB20(D)E Cefiro? I've heard of one HR 31 non turbo here, it was a Series 1 Passage with an RB20E in it. Pity you discount both Ford off hand, their straight 6's can be reasonably fast with minor mods and a manual. -

Did any of you see the pic from a few years back where some muppet in a R33 ( I think), tried to launch it at 7000rpm and parts of the clutch came through the bellhousing into the cabin? Was pretty dramatic lol. -

they see me rollin... they hatin, patrollin n tryin to catch me riding dirty... -
I got offered one of those type of ECU's in exchange for my Microtech, but I think that having a non standard turbo would negate any advantage in having one.

I thought the RB30 was fine to use on RB25, even though one bolt dosen't line up and that they are the same inherent design?

Strangely enough, I've noticed that some Aussie models seem more prone to others. I had my VN SS for 4 years and due to being a slack flamin mongrel I never flushed out any of the fluids other than oil every 5000km and the trans oil when 80 000km after I bought it, it started slipping cause the oil was burnt. Other than that and things like a battery and filters, it never gave me problems apart from needing to have a windscreen replaced and the ignition barrel wearing out. Bearing in mind though, the previous owner had a full rebuild of the motor and new radiator fitted When I sold it, it was still going strong, though the fuel pump was starting to worry me with its erratic buzzing. Most VN's i've seen being thrashed around have sustained some frankly awesome amounts of abuse, mainly in the form of burnouts or just general thrashing. The V6 especially seems to be damn near bullet proof for a Commodore. On the same note, I've noticed all my mates with E series Falcons having never ending hassles with the cooling systems, autos and electrics. Same thing again with VL's, and if you're a lucky bugger with a Calais the electricals too. Not to mention rust. The LS1's I've seen don't seem to be *too* bad, apart from needing nearly every bloody sensor replaced on them, and the nylon ends of the selectors on the gearbox wearing, making it impossible to get into some gears first go, and needing gearbox removal and disassembly to fix. I've noticed that apart from issues caused by modifications, Skylines and Nissan / Toyota's in general, whether import or not are pretty damn reliable full stop. When i think about it, most of the problems with my car specifically are from it being modified, apart from dicky climate control. The only imports I've seen which have had issues are ones which have either had dodgy mechanics/tuners go loose on them, or have literally been driven by people who have no clue about manual transmissions. I've had bogans try and tell me this absolute bullshit (especially in the case of an R32) about parts being impossible to find bla bla bla. I can get quite a few things from Nissan, but buy from import wreckers or aftermarket due to the insane prices Nissan charge for parts. The main thing is that parts are often more expensive, but if they are going to last signifigantly longer, it's not so much of an issue. Its funny though, this prevailing negative attitude seems to run through not only dealers, but mechanics I've spoken to! -

VN Commodores are pretty good rigs FYI (Style, Power, Handling etc), speaking of them, its the 20th anniversary of the venerable VN this year!!
