  1. The point I was making was outlining the pros and cons then giving my personal opinion, good job on the personal attacks though, you obviously thought long and hard about that one. I prefer a car which gives the driver the most feedback when driving, not some homogenised fly by wire type vehicle with no personality. Yes that is me personally, if you think thats indicative of younger drivers, or out of some sort of ignorance then you're a fool yourself. Given the surprisingly strong driveline of the LS1 SS models, you can get away with that sort of behavior without breaking things, I dont see how this would make me a '21 year old tool'. unless it were on a private road.
  2. Yeah I'd like to know this as well - my RB25 water pump is leaking so looking at a possible replacement.
  3. What do you define as 'creature comforts'? My Skyline has power windows, mirrors, climate control, CD player and ABS as well as AWD, theres nothing that a VX SS has which mine dosen't apart from an electronically adjustable drivers seat (bearing in mind that my Skyline is a 12/89 vs a 9/01 Holden). Funny how the mate that owns it bought a HR31 GTS because he disliked the SS for the same reasons I did. Have you ever driven one? I'm purely drawing from my own experiences here rather than making baseless statements with the source being motoring magazines or other forum posts. Also, I don't know if you've ever tried doing work to an LS1 motor, but we found they were an absolute PAIN in the arse to work on, especially with changing plugs and leads. Even my 5 litre is annoying compared to an RB motor. Being a Commodore owner for several years I can also see the advantages in them, namely cheap and plentiful parts, more mechanics and tuners know how to deal with them, and the fact that unless very modified, any average Joe can hop in and drive one without too much hassle. They also tend to be easier to sell. The seats and interior would also be on par. Granted that the SS has an electronic dash, but mine has a Microtech one which has all and more functions apart from electronic speedo. Could you please explain where my ignorance lies? I pointed out that different cars are marketed towards different demographics (well grey imports aren't really 'marketed', they are more of an enthusiast thing to start out with.) in an attempt to convey to everyone else in this thread exactly what this TWR Maloo in particular and on broader terms the current HSV/FPV lineup are all about, not to mention they aren't being sold towards people who like harsh to drive, loud and tempermental cars. If i were to be 'hektik', perhaps I'd be found in say a VL SL Turbo painted Absinthe yellow with a truck intercooler and stock wheels painted silver? If you believe Skylines to be 'pieces of shit', and you do indeed drive a Porsche as indicated in your signature, perhaps you might like to GTFO and sign up to a Porsche specific forum which might more suit your interests. Unless of course you're purely here to troll.
  4. I think by R33 you meant R32
  5. I JUST ESTABLISHED THAT.
  6. Yeah there's a few Skyline LS1 conversions getting around, im talking all iron Holden 5L here.. That or a turbo version of the Patrol 4.8 litre petrol motor!
  7. I was actually having a dig at your previous post stating that "...feel like they belong in the 90s, etc." My R32 feels like a mid to late 90's car in terms of interior and design, sure its modified, only the dash fascia on the speedo and tacho remind me of the old man's Y60 Patrol.
  8. beaut motors, what are ya talking about! get a big solid roller cam in there, maybe some head porting, and hello burnout city! I would seriously LOVE to see a skyline with a Holden 5L motor, I wonder if its even possible
  9. Ironic that coming from someone who owns a HR31, the ones i've driven feel extremely 80s moreso than 90s hahaha. Just to refresh everyone this is in reference to the TWR modified Maloo, its like taking your brand new HSV to (insert big name tuning house here) and saying that you want a '400kw package', this ISN'T a factory HSV or Holden. Gregors, thats why I mentioned in my post that I was referring to utes specifically - there's several hi-po ones around here, and they are all wheelspin city. My best mate has a 240rwkw VX which i've driven numerous times, and its a lot more work to see other traffic, work the clutch and tractor like gearbox, for a commodore they do handle quite nice and smooth and banging it down into first at 50km/h and dropping the clutch always brings a big grin, but they are a pain in the arse to drive around town imo. I can't speak for the later models, but they feel even more boatlike than the old VN! Me personally, i wish my car was more like a mates Cefiro - no sound deadening (weight reduction), straight through exhaust and suspension so hard you can barely make the car move when you jump on it! but thats just my preference for harsh cars I guess. Given the different demographics which these cars tend to attract, it brings it more into mind why Holden and Ford have chosen the routes they have - thse cars are being marketed towards the middle age crisis types and grown up hoons with families, as well as the bogan element who's always going to shell out for the big banger car in their particular marque. That said there are some older guys who drive imports, but I daresay they'd make up the minority. these threads always seem to turn into a massive gathering of the retards anyway, its like debating which tuning house is better.
  10. There are street registered ones out there you know...
  11. added to that diesel pumps are usually covered in filth from lazy truck drivers and are set to one side of the service station...
  12. Just for everyone's info, i paid $110 for the Patrol master from Nissan OEM. I think this was trade price though.
  13. GTR with a holden 5 litre
  14. well this thread seems to have attracted every single illiterate person on this forum - what a nightmare trying to read it all! trikdoutvl has actually said something worthwhile for once, I've noticed that car enthusiasts and banner wavers are two disparate groups. For example, among my mates the consensus is that the 2JZ is a superior motor all up to any of the RB series, yet most of us drive various turbo Nissans because we like them, and prefer them to Supras etc- at the same time some of my other mates drive turbo Fords, V8 Holdens, even rotaries. I refuse to associate with people who are one eyed about a particular make or model, even other Skyline owners, they shit me up the wall, much like Ford/Holden fans who seriously claim that the other brand is 'shit' for no reason other than that they prefer the other. That said, I can't see any point in having 300+rwkw in a ute, I've seen it in action in a XR6T ute, bloody thing couldn't get traction at all at full noise! Not my idea of fun. It also really depends on whether you just want something thats going to do a wicked quick quarter, which seems to be an obsession of many people out here, honestly who'd get a kick out of driving a 300rwkw VL Turbo on the street with a high stall and a Powerglide for example, but for some people 1/4 times mean everything. I don't really know why this thread is still going though, what a shitfight, and it sounds like many of you have never driven some of the other cars that you're bagging out.
  15. umm I dont know what sort of LS1's some of you have been driving, cause they must have been near dead or something. I hopped in my mates VX SS with twin 2.5 exhaust and LS1Edit and it dosen't really powerband until around 4000rpm, which is reached surprisingly quickly! The old 5 litre dosen't like to rev much though (at least in a stock or near stock form)
  16. talk about whingers... I drive my GTS-4 30 km to work and back every day because i get enjoyment from driving it, and because the fuel consumption is about the same as my SS. The suspension is hard as all buggery on the highway especially with the bumpy roads you get in the country but it's never bothered me (apart from having the seat up too far and bashing my head on the roof!) if you can't handle a hard clutch then obviously you can't handle the car hahaha. I have GT-R seats in mine, and hands down they are the comfiest I've ever sat in, I drive 600km to Melbourne and feel great when I hop out of the car. With the amount of kangaroos out here, it's also been REALLY helpful to have a car with awesome brakes as well. I've noticed that on a 30+ degree day the Skyline has a LOT better airflow when moving compared to my Commodore. Like the above poster mentioned, i never park mine where I can't see it apart from work, I'm too paranoid about morons with shopping trolleys etc.
  17. lol old thread much, and you may as well put roof racks on it too while you're going!
  18. Some people were all into doing this on their N/A VL's 3 or 4 years ago, basically isn't worth it for the cost, especially on a small displacement motor. Their usefulness on V8s is even being brought into question with the proliferation of reletively cheap off the shelf turbo kits floating around these days.
  19. just thought I'd update this thread - after getting another master cylinder on ebay which turned out to be stuffed too, and then buying a rebuild kit for the Aussie R31 which didnt fit, I ended up getting a brand new OEM master cylinder for a Y60 Patrol which worked perfectly.
  20. jeez i got mine for $22! (think they were around $30 retail though) Got a Cummins dealer nearby?
  21. a dude tried to outrun the cops here in an R33 GTST once, potentially could have worked considering there is at least 7-8 white R33 GTST's in town, but the moron forgot the fact that he had personalised numberplates
  22. I don't even waste my breath on people who crap on that their pieces of shit or their mates pieces of shit make x power or can beat x car. my VN has 160rwkw with a slightly lumpier cam than stock and exhaust. Thats about right for a 5 litre with the usual minor mods. A standard VX LS1 should make ~180rwkw, a standard HSV 5litre around 135rwk or so (what i've seen off runs on a Dyno Dynamics dyno). best mates VX SS made 240rwkw with a full twin DiFillippo exhaust and LS1 Edit. This translated into real world performance too, the only cars I can think of which were faster were a WRX with a 2.2L stroker, dogbox and a heap of other goodies, and ironically one of our mates R31's with an RB30 and a highflow ha ha ha. My GTS-4 has a sheet for 240rwkw, but I'm thinking that CRD had a happy dyno that day or somethings out in the Microtech cause theres no way it makes that power at the moment. Most of the genuinely fast cars i've seen don't make the most impressive dyno readings though.
  23. try around $3 a plug not $20. I use coppers from the recommendations made in various threads in here not to mention CRD used a set of em when they tuned my car. I use NGK BCPR6ES gapped to .8mm but I'm going to the BKR7ES gapped to .8 as well on the next service. My VN with a small cam, chip and exhaust has been using the same set of Iridiums for 80 000km and they are still fine, so for a near stock application they could well be perfect - the amount i've saved there not having to buy sets of 8 copper plugs more than makes up the high inital cost.
  24. you can't compare SAU with #chan boards lol... in short your idea is utterly moronic, how stupid do you think cops are (honestly all cops seem to assume my car is a GT-R until I pop the bonnet!) if you can't drive a turbo or a v8 at all on your p's (excluding diesels and 3cyl), why post on a public forum asking how to blatantly circumvent the rules? just suck it down and save your money.
  25. Glad to hear you got your car back, I'd leave my SS parked all over that area with only a club lock and alarm, was shocked that it never got stolen actually... needless to say I'm too paranoid about my 'line to park it and leave it anywhere within the northern suburbs!
