  1. I was finding this with my 20 rep squats, so started squatting heavier for sets of 10. Started to find that difficult, so only went up 2.5kg vs 5-10. Been working pretty well.
  2. will it have spin classes? Biceps are sore today from doing flyes last night - had an older guy come up to me and mention that he'd noticed I was doing a PL routine and that my lifts looked good. Was nice to hear.
  3. thoughts on hand grippers for building grip strength anyone?
  4. don't tell the crossfitters that Birds!
  5. Ironically I found out that my current gym used to be all into powerlifting with decent benches, monolift etc about 8+ years ago. Obviously there was more money to be made in Zumba classes and encouraging curlbros.
  6. Yeah I dunno what they do - I think they are into Starting Strength and Stronglifts type stuff as far as I can tell. Thanks for looking into it Markos - the guy who is running this other Crossfit place is Vince Simonetta, apparently he was a pretty strong lifter back in the day. My ears pricked up when I heard he was going to be getting into PL as well. Your beginner program is going well for me BTW - my gym bros however are unable to cope with so much squatting and DL, so I'm training alone now! Maybe one day I'll make it to PTC and you can have a laugh at my horrible benchpress form
  7. because there is only one gym in Mildura that does any kind of powerlifting training, and after looking into their training routines and outcomes, I wasn't convinced. One of the Crossfit gyms in town is apparently getting into powerlifting as well, so I'm going to check it out when my membership is up. Trust me, I don't like having to wait 30 minutes to use the only power cage every time I'm there!
  8. i don't wanna be a hero, I just like the powerlifting type training and it's one of the 3 main lifts. Will look into some other chest exercises then - I used to do flyes quite a bit.
  9. pendlay rows vs conventional bent over rows anyone? decided to take your advice and skip flat bench the past few days Rev, the right shoulder was feeling better today so did a bit of light bench (cardio day), but it seems to have aggravated it. Since I obviously should give flat bench a miss for a while, what's a good substitute for it? Not having any dramas doing dips or OHP otherwise. 'clean energy' is a term I mainly see being used by supplement selling bros about their new pre workout or "pump enhancer" supplements LOL.
  10. tried inner health plus too? I took it for a while but didn't really notice any difference
  11. Tried using Zantac or going to a doc for pantoprazole? I've been using it for years, hoping that once I ditch the gut, I should be able to stop taking it. I seem to have gotten my diet in the sweet spot - losing about .5k a week now.
  12. I tried a few, C4 seemed to have a good effect on me, but then I thought "hey I should just sleep and eat effectively rather than using a supplement as a crutch"
  13. works for me fine, as long as it's something small. video related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=510-WhuGl1w
  14. Got my weightlifting chalk today, should help out a bit!
  15. I jumped from 110-140kg deadlifts in 3 weeks. I think grip strength, and not using enough effort was what was mostly holding me back. I wasn't able to get out a 150kg single this week disappointingly, but I did do a set of heavier dips and bent over rows beforehand (due to the gym only having 1 power cage / squat rack).
  16. I've watched enough PTC videos to know you know what you're talking about when it comes to strength training and getting real results. It's why I try and follow your method of training. When you put it like that, I now understand why you say that we aren't going to get to that level training by ourselves in commercial pleasure spa gyms. Explains a lot actually about the difference of actually training there, rather than just seeing it as you teasing us with the unattainable for the sake of it.
  17. sounds complex, how do you work it all out? Is there a set structure, or do you draw on your experience and make a judgement for eaach lifter? Makes sense when you explain it like that.
  18. The only sticking point for me is what assistance things to do to help with conditioning on the days I'm not doing my lifts, or if I should just be resting since this routine is quite hard. Markos did write about majoring in the minor shit, and I can see what means, I'm not always asking questions in relation to myself, sometimes it's just out of curiosity!
  19. I am seeing results with what I'm doing though
  20. I dont harass him - I just find some of his responses hard to decipher, or just frustrating (but I think some of that is his very dry sense of humour). I've been trying to follow his methodology, but apparently the stuff out of his newsletters is not all still current (I read from 1 to 100).
  21. because overdoing it = nogains = going backwards basically. It's hard without a coach to work out just how much is 'overdoing it' though.
  22. maybe it's just the people I associate with, though that said, I literally do not know anyone else who does compound workouts over a 3/4 day bodypart split either! I guess the thing is here rev, that since I'm currently aiming for weight loss, that it feels 'lazy' to not be doing something in the gym in between the 3 days a week that I do my routine.
  23. yeah sarcasm - but it does go to show the amount of polar opposite "advice" getting around on the internet. Grabbed it from Rippetoe's Facebook page, he was also very sarcastic about it.
  24. i saw this article, and thought of Markos raging lol http://www.outsideonline.com/fitness/injury-prevention/10-Risky-Workout-Moves.html tl;dr don't do below parallel squats or military press (among others) rev I think a lot of regular people are starting to realise that growth doesn't happen in the gym these days, but I personally find it hard to not be doing something for my 5 days of the week.
