  1. Agree with going the NEO route - my old R32 GTS-4 had a Stagea Series 1 driveline, and it was a pain in the butt to find things for. Was going to put a GT-R box in in teh end, you can usually find them a lot cheaper than GTS-T boxes, the weight and size is a factor though.
  2. Yes I do remember the first wave of R33's in town about 2005-2006, unfortunately since most were aquired by posers they were turned around fairly quickly. Most of the neat ones barely leave the garage; there's been several attempts to start an import community / club in town but it's failed hard, every single time, which is weird given that this is a real community of petrolheads. GH05T: the GT-Rs are still not exactly cheap, I have seen a few thrashed out R32s around, but usually the bearings go before they get ruined styling wise Marc: It's great - not a single f**k is given by the law about modified V8s, as there are so many trashy, attention seeking run down imports getting around (not counting the P platers driving the turbo variants lulz). My current favourite is a run down NA CA18 S13 with bin lid chromies missing the centre caps and a straight pipe exhaust, with a huge f**k YEAH JDM sticker / stickerbomb on the rear quarter window. I blame NS for it. Most of the WRXs getting around these days on the other hand, are boring and stock, or nicely modified. I seriously considered one, but found the styling on the later model ones (the mazda 3 lookalike) to be just too ugly, not to mention no mechanics want to touch them in town so cbf travelling for mechanical work / being ripped off @ the stealership.
  3. QFT. CBF reposting my post from OCAU, y'all can read my thoughts there. IMO the only visually distinctive imports these days are HR31s, CLEAN R32 GT-Rs and rare stuff like Cedrics etc. Peeps tend to overate non GT-R Skylines IMO. Even a good mate's HR31 still gets mistaken for an Aussie R31 by the unwashed masses, and chicks HATE it lol.
  4. Hardware, well insofar as using the Intel ICH controller
  5. get a couple of Sureflo 100cpi cats, cheap and well made.
  6. Statistically speaking, I've seen the highest failure rates at work from Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung and WD Greens in that order. We have a wall lined up with dead Hitachi drives lol. Nearly all of the dead Green's I've seen are from RAIDs though, I've heard that the power saving function built into them can cause havoc, but don't have any proof of that.
  7. Yes hopefully we will be retiring some R710s with the right PERC cards soon, I want to see someone else use one IRL to see how it will perform, incidentally I have seen a RAID 5 with WD Greens drop both the parity and another disk recently, luckily the colleague who owned it was the paranoid type and didn't store any essential data on the array, but I think that I'd be using Reds or RE3 drives if I were to get off my arse and build a proper file server for home. I don't really go for the whole soft RAID thing, at this point in time I find that 3tb is enough for me, and should I ever lose it all, I can rebuild 90 or so % from my workmates' storage pools. That said I've been tossing up on burning off onto dvd some of the more obscure movies / music that I have. I like to try different setups with PC gear - I've done the whole two midrange cards in SLI thing, and will sooner or later step up to 1 680 as BF3 keeps locking up on me (haven't tried latest drivers yet though). Also might invest in one of the cheapie Korean monitors - they are the same panel as the imac 27 after all.
  8. I like how trolling is socially acceptable on this forum if it's because someone isn't conforming to the norm. OP: 20's to suit a Falcon should also suit your Skyline, probably shouldn't go too wide as you might need guard rolling
  9. Galaxy S3 would be my pick if I were having to buy a phone myself. Had a couple of workmates interested in the Galaxy Note recently, as the Ipad is quite frankly too awkwardly sized for a lot of people, the Note seems to be a good medium between a phone and a tablet.
  10. cowboy1600: how's dat dere Catleap going for ya? Nice case Aljo, can't say I'm tempted with the $$$ of the Lian Lis though! Also how does using a tv go for you, i always thought it would give severe eyestrain if used like a conventional monitor. Have you considered a Samsung or el cheapo korean 1440p 27? I'd also read that there is no point in striping SSDs as you lose TRIM functionality (a mate has a very similar setup to yours albeit with a GTX670), does ATTO / Crystal Disk Mark show big increases in performance? I've seen with the RevoDrives, that whilst having amazing read writes / IOPS, they boot slower than even my lil ol sata 2 Samsung OEM SSD. You could always go to 3 or 4tb drives btw
  11. I read an interesting comparative review the other day of various processors, and the Intel's are quite a bit ahead. The Bulldozers are still worse than the older Phenoms though ironically. Multi core fail, and weak single threaded performance.
  12. I think you will find it's also the planned obsolescence built into them; again we run iPhones for the majority of our fleet here, and without fail and no matter how carefully looked after, every single 3GS is showing different types of problems. The only ones not affected are the ones sat in desk drawers and barely touched for the last 2-3 years.
  13. yeah but RB oil control is always going to be lacking on the track unless it's had modifications made, coincidentally it seems like tracks is where a lot of these failures happen.
  14. I was under the impression that the thicker the oil @ 100 degrees C, the thicker the film strength, and therefore the protection given.
  15. Moodles2: catastrophic engine failure caused by over revving / oil pump failure is largely irrelevant to an oil discussion IMO, unless you're trying to say that one particular brand had such a strong film strength that it held the engine together for the time taken to turn it off etc etc. UOAs / Filtergrams are where it's at for actual empirical evidence. Viscosity is another debate in itself, I ended up with a sore head from reading the endless debates on BITOG about thick vs thin viscosity etc
  16. I also read everything I could find when I got my R32 as well. Looking back I probably would have gone the Edge 10w60, as back then it was $60/5l and every auto parts shop in town sells it. Preventative is better than curative maintenance IMO. I have noticed a trend of sales types pushing the new Penrite range, but everything I've read on them suggests them to still be fairly crappy oils. Awaiting the results of a Filtergram on the LS1.com.au thread.
  17. yeah Arma and Arma 2's campaigns really SUCKED compared to the original Operation Flashpoint ones Still a noob @ Dayz, 5 lives later, have only ever seen one other player lol and found a weapon once.
  18. before my local Autobarn stopped selling it, 8100 was around $80 / 5l. I did a LOT of reading on oil before I did my first oil change in my new car - the Royal Purple seems to be good due to high levels of ZDDP in the HPS at least, however their marketing claims have been called out as BS numerous times on the BITOG forums. Also hard to find and pricey unless buying from a workshop.
  19. I was probably thinking moreso of back in teh day when Edge was seen as a very low grade oil compared to Mobil 1 / Motul.
  20. out of interest, why aren't there more people running 10w60 Edge? Most RB owners I know are on it, and it has been tested to be be a good oil (Filtergram analysis) Easy to find too (albeit expensive-ish)
  21. moreso I was thinking that it would be easier to just keep your whole stock setup rather than spend hundreds of dollars on a compliant cat that may or may not be still failed in the event of a test
  22. IMO I would keep the stock cat and just run a cheapish 100cpi metal cat flanged to suit (make sure the core is welded in) because either way you're probably not going to pass an emissions test without the stock one (or close enough to stock).
  23. haha mac users are worse for retardedness. seriously. I should do some helpdesk stats next time i'm bored at work to prove my theory.
  24. nice thread dig
