For the record I just renewed my Torque policy. 26 year old rating 1 driver with no infringements 1993 R33 GTS25t $20,000 Air filter, exhaust and suspension mods ~$1150 premium with $750 excess Was going to go with Just Cars who came in the at about the same however I thought their excesses are unreasonable. They were something like $400 basic + $700 imported + $400 mods. Will Torque be good in the event of a claim - only time will tell... Any experience anyone? I know that Just Cars have paid out, even for someone who was only on a cover note who hadn't even made a premium payment! I'm not interested in saving $200 per year if it means I'll get hassles in the event of a claim...

Buy a new 'line? Change the timing belt IMMEDIATLY!!!

Great piece of advice -
600 degrees Fahrenheit or 315 degrees Celsius for 60 mins is required to cure the exhaust paint.

I've recently made up a cold air partition for my GTS25t - and I must say it's the best value for money mod I can imagine! I've only done a simple job, I purchased some Formflex/sheild(?) from my local Clark rubber (about $10) and that gave me enough to make 3! I'll take some photo's and post them up, however I don't think I'll be revealing any world secrets! Noticable increase in responsiveness, and by using my 'hand' thermometer the the air is certainly much much cooler inside the partition. I'm yet to route cold air into it, however am pleased with the results. Make it your project for this weekend! It's fantastic.

I live near Hampton Park and it's funny - I always see all these Skylines with 40+ Indian mothers driving them around! It's a real crack up, especially the ones with venting BOV's . I go to drag them then realise who is driving it! Mum doing the shopping! A few years ago many younger Indian (appearance) guys used to make a quick $ or two importing Skylines and selling them around my area, obvoiusly got stuck with a few and kept them as the family car! (hehehe just like when I was a kid on a fundraising chocolate drive - just sold them all to my family).
-
Really? Almost all other Skyline (and 180, etc) drivers always sneek a peek at my car when I drive past, and mine pretty stock looking (and I do the same, of course). Whenever I can I try to take the opportunity to check out other peoples cars and have a chat - always fun. Oh yeah, and I'm in the SE suburbs, and have noticed in the last 4 years more and more Skylines around. They've certainly come a long way from my dream car in Gran Turismo on the PSX! The more skylines out there the better I think - more spare parts! :uh-huh:

I've found myself some exhaust heat wrap from Autobarn - the brand is High Energy, $90 for 50mm X 15m, and the paint $16 for a can. Picking it up tomorrow night. Still not sure how I can cure the paint? Is this ultra critical? Would it be ok to paint it, let it dry and then wrap it? The 'best ideas' I've had so far include wrapping it in foil and cooking on the BBQ, or heat up the oven then stick in one end of it (as it won't all fit - then do the same for the other end). As you can see I really don't have any good ideas! Maybe the instructions on the paint can will help.
-
Hehehe thanks for the tip SydneyKid! Not sure if I have the same kiln sized oven big enough for a dump+front pipe though! However your comment is starting to give me some ideas now....
-
Great - thanks Dave for the advice. Can you suggest a way of curing the paint without having the pipe on the vehicle? I figured doing the wrapping would be much easier before the pipe is on the car.
-
Great - I'm buying a dump/front pipe from BATMBL and would like to get it coated. Any idea how much? Where are you getting it done? I've heard that if incorrectly heat wrapped an exhaust may crack - so I'm scared of doing this myself now!
-
Anyone know where I can have my front/dump pipe coated in Victoria? I've heard that if incorrectly heat wrapped an exhaust may crack - I'm now scared of doing this myself!
-
Yes, rev210, that's true. JASMA in Japan is like the EPA here, for an exhaust to be stamped by JASMA it must meet certain noise requirements etc - which is why I have a massive 3.5" exhaust to 5" tip and its quiet as a mouse.
-
Yeah, BATMBL does have some good prices on the cats. For the price, I'll think I'll go one. Why didn't you take him up on his combo dump+front pipes? $160-80 sounds very cheap (perhaps too cheap?), Nizpro wanted $385 to make a custom stainless front pipe. A laser cut alone is aparantley $50-60, and imagine how you'd be if it rattled or bumped, etc. Depending on how others go with there purchases from BATMBL (where are those pictures? ), I think one of his combo pipes and a cat sounds like my best option. Airport West is quite far for me, although if u do go ahead with it would be keen to hear your results. FYI SydneyKid recommends to go stainless in these pipes as mild steel would wear too quickly.
-
Can I ask where you got it done? And how much? O.....k..... so where from? Is it mild? Coated? Any photo's? Nah, I did enquire about them a week ago, but haven't ordered anything as yet. Back to re-assessing the options. One funny thing I found the Dandenong operation (Daadler) has no idea of what I was talking about re the Skyline pipes - which is a pity because they are much closer to me. BATMBL can get some combo pipes and cats pretty cheap (see the for sale thread), so there's another option there now. I'm guessing if I went this option any local exhaust shop could fit it for me easily enough? (I don't want to try with the ramps!). Does anyone know if need a new cat as well when I get the front pipe (due to the different flange size)? or is it simple to modify my existing cat? Cheers, David.
-
Well, f**k! Just rang Nizpro to confirm my exhaust fitment tomorrow, and he said its just a front pipe! Front pipe for $385 - forget it! Now I've just wasted a week waiting for them. He also swears that the dump pipe doesn't do anything whatsoever, and is not a reliable piece once an aftermarket one is fitted. This completely contradicts what the guys at UAS say, they said even on the stock turbo you'd be suprised the difference it can make... :argue: Doh - now back to me being confused again... hmm maybe a 30 min fit by Daadler is the way to go - 190 for the front pipe in mild coated...? Not sure...
-
Yep, getting Nizpro to do the work. My thoughts exactly on the dump pipe. I've got 148rwkw (on a 4WD dyno dynamics - the one at Frankston Tafe, but of course, each dyno is different) with only a pod + 3.5" HKS cat back (done nothing the boost - only other mods are suspension related). With the extra flow and natural boost rise, I'm very interested to see the results on the same dyno. I know people with FMIC's and cat backs that really don't get that much more on the same dyno. Then I can check out my A/F's as well to see if a S-AFC II is my next mod (or EBC or Flywheel) - obviously I'm a subscriber two rev210's theories. Which reminds me, I better get my ass into gear and built that cold air partition. Where are those links (of your exhaust)???
-
How noticable was the increase when you added the dump pipe? Huge/not so big? I've heard several conflicting opinions from some of the performance shops.
-
Great - that sort of boost level would suit me just fine (with the stock IC). And I wouldn't have to worry about installing a bleed valve and having it spiking etc I imagine. It's all booked in for next Wednesday...the anticipation...:looney:
