OK. So I just called around two performance workshops here in Melbourne. They both mentioned the O2 sensor is the most likely culprit, especially in a 2007 car. The ECU doesn't get accurate readings so it overcompensates by dumping fuel. Hooking it up to a scan tool would easily ID if this is the problem ($80). Strangely, one of them recommended a Dyno to check A:F ratios and the other said it would be a waste of effort (as they want to check the car at 'cruise', not at full throttle). Could this also explain some weird idling / low speed 'lurching' I've been experiencing? What are the common symptoms of a dodgy O2 sensor?

Been thread reading and seems a popular option is the Uprev, either ordered from eBay and DIY or through RevZone in Ringwood. Can anyone comment on what one can reasonably expect from a stock V36 (with K&N drop in filters)? Mainly I'm after fuel economy gains (and the switchable map mode sounds great - but I don't have Cruise buttons, could it would with other buttons?)

Hey guys, The economy on my 2007 V36 SP Coupe is pretty terrible. I get between 13.3L / 100kms (mostly hwy, some city) to 17.4L / 100kms (inner city driving). I think the best ever (100% hwy) was around 12L / 100kms. I'm a mature driver too, I don't really fang it around. Always run 98RON, 90% of the time BP, sometimes Shell. Other than economy car goes well. Has anyone had any experience in doing some fuel tuning to increase economy? (i.e. like one would with a Power FC or Super AFC back my in my turbo days). Anything else I could investigate? David.

Review Of The Kumho Ecsta Ku31
Haxorz replied to Bass Junky's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Some have reported the Kuhmo's are great back/buck but age quickly. Any reports? Right now I've narrowed it down to Bridgestones S001 at $400 a pop or Kuhmo's Ecsta KU?? at $270 or so. -
New Remote/key Combo Quoted $450 Adelaide
Haxorz replied to MikeMcL's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Another recommendation for FTG Nissan. I believe I was the first spare to be made through them (2011 sometime), and they were great. It's cost me a bit more (exploratory work, etc) but it was under insurance thanks to Jetstar losing my bags! Don't forget to get your mechanical key cut as well! You can't just go to any Bunnings / basic style key cut place, you need a locksmith who can cut both sides of the key. Should cost around $20. I had mine done in Elizabeth St, Melbourne, near the corner of Queensbury somewhere. I'm sure there are loads of places though. If you fail to do this and lose your other remote then you will not be able to access your car at all in the event of an electrical failure / flat battery! -
V36 Rev Probs, Firmware Update Anyone?
Haxorz replied to awsam's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I've read this threat with interest - great stuff!! In regards to this 'bucking', my 2007 V36 Coupe does something really annoying that sounds similar. It's like it 'lunges' or lurches forward as I'm slowing down, especially noticible (and dangerous!) as I'm slowing down to stop at a set of lights. It's as if there is some problem with the rev-down shifting as the auto drops down through the gears. I swear I'm going to rear end a car if I'm not careful!! In fact, bucking is an excellent way to describe it as it's like I'm riding a horse that is about to launch into a gallop (whilst I am trying to slow down and stop!!). Is this the same thing? -
V36 Fuel Economy - Best 'range To Empty' Of 643Kms
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
700km!!!! Woah, what the hell?! I've owned my 2007 SP Coupe Auto for 3 years, mostly inner city driving and I ALWAYS get around 450km to a tank (maybe 500km if I do a 80km return trip out to the burbs). I'm a mature driver and drive the car pretty normally, I'm not a hoon. I ALWAYS use 98 RON (BP) and tyres ALWAYS pumped to 40psi. Could all have some common problem that is causing this poor economy? ECU way out of whack? Dirty throttle body? Does anyone know what are the common causes we can check for? -
2007 V36 - Suspect Starter Motor, Where To Go?
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Can this problem cause the Century Battery Tester readout to report 'check starter motor'? I have a 3.7L. I also have some throttle body cleaner... -
2007 V36 - Suspect Starter Motor, Where To Go?
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Basically, I'll push the start button, and it'll start up (it revs up automatically) and then after about a second revs drop to 0 and it conks out. Not all the time, but maybe 1/10 starts, and esp if I have the heated seats on. If this happens, I usually just start it and give the throttle a little squirt and it's fine. -
Hey all! I noticed some problems starting up my 2007 V36 and thought it was the battery. Took it to Super Cheap Auto in Yarraville, Vic and they used their battery tester on my car (big shout to those guys - very helpful! - I almost went and bought a battery I didn't need). The original 2007 battery isn't in the best condition, but it's still fine. The Century Test Tool said 'check starter motor' and showed it wasn't putting out enough power. So my question... I live in inner Melbourne. Haven't had a mechanical problem with my car yet (great Nissan reliablity!) so am not sure where to go. There is a Auto Elec just up the street - but obviously they won't know the car well. There is also City Nissan close by, but they might want to sell me a starter motor that I don't need. Where would you guys take it?

Hi guys, I'm after something more firm while still being comfortable. My V36 is quite 'roll-y', especially compared to my previous R34 which had an extensive HKS setup with shocks and all kinds of polyurathane bushes etc by the previous owner. It's amazing how much more enjoyable the car was with sporty suspension. I put a Whiteline front sway bar in for $200 (bar - I supplied) + $200 (labour) and it made a good difference, but still not quite enough. 1. How would those with the KW V3 rate the upgrade? 2. What is the approx labour to fit these shocks if supplied? 3. Does anyone know the life expentance of the factory shocks - mines a Dec 07 / 55,000 km... what condition are my factory ones by now? Cheers!

Hey guys, This feature seems to have stopped working since I got an iPhone 5 running iOS 7. My iPhone 4S worked brilliantly with iOS 6, I can't remember if I was using with iOS 7 or not though. It's a BRILLIANT feature by the way, streaming Kiss FM via the app, music, etc. I can still make calls and use Siri via the system, but I can't play any music from any app. I get some kind of 'Bluetooth error' on the screen and cannot select play/stop/next etc all greyed out. Does anyone have this working? To my knowledge I've deleted the old phone and setup the new one correctly. Haxorz.

And they are happy having you supply parts or were they a little miffed at it? That to me seems like the way to go.
-
Thanks for the tip #@Plattsy. How much does your average service cost down there and how long does it take? I know FTG Nissan are one of the two 'premium' Nissan dealers in the state (only ones that sell/service GTRs) and were really good for the little I've had to do with them (getting a spare key reprogrammed). Being a V36 I should also look at Infiniti dealers I suppose.

Hey guys, I'm wondering how everybody gets the best out of a mechanics service, because basically I'm hesitant to get anyone do a good job. I've tried a few different mechanics, and have even given them the log book and specifically asked to service it as per the book 'yeah sure no worries'. The book stated it required air filters and the in cabin micro filter. I get the car back to find out that they just blew out the air filters and pretty much ignored all the other stuff. Getting things like wipers done is a 'special request' where they have to order in the special blades and charge appropirately! I understand the in cabin micro filter is a rare thing, but the air filters! Come on! Sure I can do the reaearch, find all the part numbers, call them up and book it in weeks in advance so they have the parts on hand (and overcharge me for!) and then specifically state all the things that need doing, but what a pain! I'm paying $400+ here, I shouldn't have to do any of this IMO. Also oil - they charge $99 for 5L which I can buy from Big W for $50 (I know this is to mask higher labour costs). I'm not sure if I should supply this myself or if it will piss them off. My car has a rough idle and I'm guessing could use a throttle body clean out, although I'm just read how important it is not to disconnect the sensor otherwise it'll screw things up - do I need to specify all this to them as well? I'm a little hesitant getting others to do this also. My running costs are tax deductable and I don't have garage space so servicing at home is not an option (certainly not for jacking a car up and changning the oil). I have previously taken my car to two well known Skyline performance guys here and I wasn't impressed either, little things like fuel filters and washer bottle top ups just don't get done again unless specified. Any tips on how to get a good service? Would a Nissan dealer be better? Any suggestions for inner Melbourne shops?

V36 Performance Priorities
Haxorz replied to Skylinetragic's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
#@Yo-Yo - can I ask which High flow panel filters you went for and where did you get them from? This seems like a very good upgrade as most general service places don't stock any compatible filters anyway, so might as well order some high flows and put them in yourself! I can see this is the K&N filter for V36's - K&N 33-2399, around $175 for 2x delivered from ebay.com.au, $125 from ebay US. Reviews on K&N website report good fuel economy/power improvements, but wonder how accurate they are. -
V36 Fuel Economy - Best 'range To Empty' Of 643Kms
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I noticed this thread is the first hit on Google when I search for 'v36 skyline fuel consumption', so I thought I better come back and update it with some proper information. Agreed - using the range to empty is not an accurate way of measuring consumption, and a 'tank' isn't a unit of measure. Here are some hard stats: City tank - mainly inner city stop/start driving, one trip out to the burbs (80kms round trip) on the FWY 579km, 71.1L = 12.3L per 100kms Hwy tank - again, mainly inner city stop/start driving, one trip out to the country (200kms round trip) on the FWY 573km, 59.88L = 10.6L per 100kms I would say these are pretty typical real world figures. Fuel used on both cases was BP RON 98. Car is stock V36 SP Auto 2007. I would imagine the best possible HWY consumption would be a low 9.xL per 100kms. Very damn awesome for a car with 245KW and a 5.x second 0-100!!! Anyone care to share their stats? -
Almost 2 Weeks When Infiniti Launches Here
