Anyone with Shannons and doens't have there car in a garage? I just got knocked back - mine is in a carport at the rear of an apartment block (not visible from the street). Wondering if I should try and ring again?

Exact same thing happend to me. Was with Torque then LSV. I'm 31, rating 1, not even a speeding ticket. My 1999 GTT just dropped in value by $4k down to $26k and my premium shot up from $1200 to $1550!! Over the 8 years I've been with them I've had 2 claims (car broken into twice) and they've also helped me out with 3rd party claims (rear ended twice) and the service was fantastic. My repair always tells me 'you've got a great insurance company you know'. He also said AAMI (Just cars underwriter) are terrible. He said he just can't fix the cars to his quality and provide a lifetime guarantee on the repair at the prices they pay. I also don't like Just Cars crazy premiums. I called Shannons and asked for a quote, but they knocked me back because my car isn't in a lock up garage. It is in a car port at the rear of an apartment block (not viewable from the street) in a super safe area. I feel I'm a borderline case - was I just unlucky with the sales guy? Should I try again? Any other Skylines insured with Shannons not in lock up garages?

R34 Xenon Hid's, A D2r Kit Or A H1 Kit?
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
I just noticed this on another thread... "The Xenon reflectors are designed for a D2R globe light pattern ONLY. In other words, an H1 Xenon globe will produce some glare and will not have the same quality as a D2R globe even though both will be HID lighting. " Hmmm.... I wonder what I have to do to fit a D2R globe... -
Hey Guys, I've got an R34 that came factory with D2R Xenon bulbs. At compliance they were removed (including ballast) and coverted to H1 55W bulbs. I'd like to try one of those low cost HID kits from China and Xenon it up again once more. From what I've gathered reading around various threads, I've already worked out that: I want the 35W ones are plenty (that's what they are stock, no need to go for 55W). I should get 4300K - 5000K ones, as I want the brightest white I can get without any blue to the naked eye. My question is, should I get a D2R HID Kit or a H1 kit? Would it be better to remove whatever adatper or whatever that coverts the D2R socket to fit a H1? I'm also interested in what is a good cheapie brand. I know a guy who's been using a 'Conquer' brand set from hidworld.com for 6 months with no problems at around $130 delivered. Haxorz.

R34 Right Side Headlight Gone Out, High Beam Still Works
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in General Maintenance
OK guys, for the benefit of the board... I went to my mechanic who explained to me they removed the Xenon lights during compliance and replaced them with standard halogen H1 globes (hence the engraving). So my car has H1 low beam and H1 high beam which I'd imagine most R34's would have. A basic one of these costs $8 from Repco. If I want to go Narva Arctic Blue (i.e. a whiter light), it's $45 a pair or $25 each. Repco Oakleigh only sell Narva and don't stock Philips/Osram. A search around the forum told me that Narva ones are hit and miss and I should really go Philips. Philips Vision Plus (+50%) are $30 + $8 post on eBay for what looks to be a Chinese or Jap market product but claims to be the genuine article. I'd rather just go to an Autobarn to Supercheap and pick one up at lunch, even if it costs an extra $10-$20, but there aren't any in my area. Changing them is pretty easy. Unscrew the rear cap, press together the two metal prongs holding in the lamp, unplug and replug. Ensure not to touch the globe otherwise the oily fingerprint will burn onto the globe. -
R34 Right Side Headlight Gone Out, High Beam Still Works
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in General Maintenance
OK, so I went and checked out my headlights. Above the drivers side headlight assembly there are a series of model numbers. From right to left D2R 35W (factory printed on) H1 12v 55w (engraved on, presumably during compliance) H1R1 12v 65w (factory printed on) Is the 'H1 12v 55w' a replacement of the factory 'H1R1 12v 65w' for compliance? It sounds like it's the D2R 35W that I need to change (Xenon low beam). Do I have this correct? Is $120 a reasonable price for this? The only new one I could find on eBay was $90US + $25US shipping, so it seems reasonable as long as it's a good brand one (Philips or Osram). I also unscrewed the large 3" circular cap that covers the rear of the bulb. Certainly doesn't look like the bulb simply twists out, looks like you need to undo a couple of screws first, but what do I know... -

I just called a local Melbourne workshop and they quoted $120 to supply and install that bulb. Will take a few days to order in. Those PHILIPS CRYSTAL VISION HALOGEN BULB's on ebay are $80 a pair - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PHILIPS-HALOGEN-Car...Z1QQcmdViewItem It says 'Directly interchangeable with originally equipped products! Easy install by self, good for DIY!' Anyone have any experience with these? Are they easy to install? Any threads show the headlight bulb removal process? -
Hi guys, I did have a search but couldn't find a simple answer. My right side headlight has gone out on my 1999 R34. It works when on high beam, but doesn't in 'normal mode'. It's got the Xenon headlights, factory standard AFAIK. Should I be able to drive down to a Repco/Autobarn/Super Cheap and change this thing myself? Do I need to check the globe to see what model number it is? I've read something about H3 and H4. Regards, David.

Constant Dead After Stereo Installation, Clock Not Working. Fuse?
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
It's also worth double checking your fuses again. The ones near the steering wheel, not the ones in the boot. -
I should also mention I've owned for the last 4 years. I'm a mature 29 year IT consultant who took very good care of this car. I only ever used premium service parts as this car was on a novated lease and all running costs were tax free (when it's half the price then you might as well get the oil, petrol, etc available). For example, it took it to Nizpro for it's major service, which involved four hours of driving to do so.

Constant Dead After Stereo Installation, Clock Not Working. Fuse?
Haxorz replied to Haxorz's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
That's exactly what it was. I thought I checked them all but I must have been wrong. It was the 10A Battery fuse. Thank you for your help! -
Hi guys, After a stereo installation on my R33, my constant wire seems to be dead. It had also caused my clock to stop working. At first the clock was just resetting back to 1:00 but now it doesn't show at all. Any idea if this is a fuse? Can anyone recommend a decent auto electrician or car stereo installation place in inner Melbourne / Prahran area to fix this issue and install the stereo? Regards, David.
