  1. Matty, I am a PIARC member and have done 4 or 5 events now at PI. Not bad but not as sharply run as WRX/SUA event. I went to Winton in July (my first WRX.SAU event) and got to say it was very well run (except for trophy pres at the driver's briefing WTF???). As per previous comments, PIARC groupings can be a bit ordinary. Example - I was blasting past my mate in an Elfin (me 220, him 190), focussed on giving him plenty of room on man straight when some hero in an ex V8 Supercar blasted past me at 250+ three abreast, one wheel almost off the track. Massive difference in lap times is dangerous, didn't see him coming. Having said that, I keep going back for Saturdays because you get a heap of 15 - 20 min sessions, rooted by the end of the day. I have my own GPS lap timer so lack of timed sprints is no drawback and I prefer the less serious attitude and extra track time. Quite a few leave early on Sat so late in the day, sometimes you get open pit lane, go out as much as you like. Awesome. Last time there my brother and I shared the car and did 60+ laps in the day. Not good for the wallet but great fun. Cheers.
  2. Saw this R35 GTR at MSCA sprint at Sandown 18th Jan 09 - my car is the blue 1600 beside. Shows how cars have grown over the years - 40 years of Datusn/Nissan evolution from 900kg 4 door family car to 2 tonne monster. The GTR was doing 1:23s with 180km/h limiter still in place. Despite hitting the limiter about 1/3 the way along the straights and lots of cars overtaking, it was still the fastest car on the day.
  3. BBGTR you've just got to be creative eg. "Darling, how about a weekend away at Phillip Island with the kids. Oh wow, look at that, there's a sprint on the same weekend". Deal done.
  4. Anyone going on the Sat 14th to PI (training day Sat = more laps, timed sprint Sundary 15th) Keen to see some GTRs flash past me down the straight! I'll be there in my Datsun 1600 13B BP, hoping to sneak under 2 minutes this time around. Best day of the year.
  5. Hi all, I'm new to the forum, led here by another 1600 owner and SAU track day competitor. Amazed at the size of the site and number of members. I have a Datsun 1600 powered by a new race 13B bridgeport rotary with about 200 rwhp, plenty for a 900kg car! Was formally L18 turbo 260 flywheel hp. Hopefully this does not offend too many purists! It's not a Skyline but I'm keen to get in the mix with you guys on the track, as well as a few of the other 1600s that feature here. I am a fan of all things Nissan but have chosen the old school path to date (first car was a 1600 back in 1987 so getting back to my roots!) Having said that, a tweaked R34 GTR would be nice one day! Cheers.
