  1. I would believe that half or even most (given you seemed to be in an area with mostly young people ie international students) but what you are suggesting (EVERY person was a young male) is such a statistical anomaly that I don't believe that. As to the elderly I was recently overseas and I was interested to be informed that in that country you are no longer allowed to get a licence to drive after the age of 60 as they believe (I am assuming there is statistical evidence to back this up) that your eye sight and reaction times are no longer good enough and that you are a danger on the road. The maximum speed zone I saw was 120km/hr which I believe is standard across the country for major FWY.
  2. If you earn a constant amount in tips IMO it is part of your pay if you get a $200 tip once a year whilst technically it is part of your pay it isn't worth considering. Chef in the hospital doesn't get tips I think but the other guy does. He is working also in a private resturant, I went there once IMO the food was average quality and over priced but they were flat out had to book 3-4 day in advance and had all tables full along with a pile of people waiting to be seated. Looked to me as though they were doing very good business.
  3. A note on the younger drivers, they often spend a lot more time on the road. In my first 2 years of driving I travelled 100,000km each year (5 times the average) then maintained 50,000km for the next 4-5 years after that but I now do about 5,000km. Driving cheaper and often poorer condition cars which have worn shocks bushes ect combined with many more hrs on the road also adds to the probability of having an accident. IMO the younger age group not as bad as people think. Also interesting to see the causes of accidents and notice that speed has been dropped from the list just a blurb about speed in relation to accidents but no statistics. As per posts I made in other threads the police determine speed to be a cause of an accident when it is not the cause by international statistical standards. (These figures are part of the justification of hoons act and other police crack downs) I guess TAC believe the police figures of accident investigations to be also BS when it comes to speed and don't provide them......
  4. Just checked with my mate to make 100% sure I wasn't spouting crap. He is paid $24.5 per hr and earns about $250 cash per week in tips you can do the math on how many hrs that is..... As to the $4 per hr over what you pay and I not having a clue as I don't work in this industry and I only know two people who do well enough to know what they get paid I can only comment on what they have told me. As to the 52k per year after tax that was quoted to be working 60 hrs a week plus tips. They lived at home owned an investment property which was just sold and were looking to guy a brand new GTR for cash. My comments orignated about Nurses and there pay which is above average, last time I reviews the statistics (2 years ago), they were above average as were Chefs and engineers scientists were just below average with teachers and childcare well behind......
  5. Licence retesting along with a defensive driving course that you must pass to get/keep your licience is what we need. In terms of when people need retesting I would start with every licience renewal ie end of P's then 10 years until the age of 60 at which point I would change the renewal and combined retest to 5 years. I dad has recently retired, my mum is still working for probably a couple more years and I have noticed in both my parents in recent tims (last 5 years) that there driving abilities have considerably degraded. At this age key skills such as eye sight, judgement of speed and distance, reaction times all start to degrade considerably which effects there driving. Whilst I sit here thinking about the lack of driving ability in my parents I cant help but remember that two of my grandparents are still driving... For myself I know that my driving isn't quite as good as it once was. As most people sadly cant view there own driving well enough to make an accurate assessment this is probably a difficult call to make but I know my reaction times are not quite as fast as they used to be, I can still drive perfectly well, safely, I am in 100% complete control of my vehicle and I have never had an accidently but close calls caused by other bad drivers are slowly get closer. This type of accident which I think eventually I will probably have wont be my fault or a serious accident due to the low speed but again my ability to react ultra quickly and avoid the accident with room to spare is gradely degrading.
  6. Both of the people I know are not head chefs, one works in a hospital and has done for about 20 years gets good flexible hrs and said he pay is lower than it would be else where but picking the hrs he works are more important to him. The other has been working post qualified for about 5 years. Apprenticeship rate is $15 per hr in the final year I believe this is pretty standard across most trades but quite a few other trades chip in extra $$$ ie my brother is a boiler maker and was paid $24.5 per hr. Yep first year sucks no different to any other trade but they are still paid were as uni requires you to pay for your education. That is still better than uni which you are paying to do your course working more hrs than you will in a job for most courses and often have a much harder time getting by. Sounds to me like you are were/are getting a raw deal and is not an indication of the industry as a whole. There was a thread in the R35 section with a 4th year apprentice chef early 52k per year after tax and was looking to buy a brand new GTR but couldn't get insurance....
  7. 10k more than a teacher 5k more than engineer/scientists straight out of school and easily can make more with overtime.... not exactly something worth complaining about and it is now considered above average for someone with a degree. In terms of it being a shit job there are plenty of other jobs I can think of which are much worse some make less some make a little more such as picking fruit, cleaner, garbo, plumber. What is much more important is the skill required to do the job, almost anyone can be a cleaner but only a few can be nurses, engineers, doctors ect I can only say regarding a chef that from two people I know who are chefs that they make around 80k which is again above average and certainly nothing worth complaining about particularly as you don't end up with a HECS/HELP debt and are paid all the way through unlike paying for a degree over 4 years making zip. They have different hrs some would argue are crap hrs but they suit some people and this certainly hasn't stopped there being enough chefs and there hrs are a lot better than truck drivers, bakers ect. This argument could go on forever weight up every single point the long and short of it is they are on a pretty good wicket and can make big $$$$ if they are prepaired to work.
  8. I was refering to other aftermarket ECUs in reference to modified wiring and specifically the PFC in relation to the hand controller note how they were separate as being different possible options. OEM manufactures have teams of engineers which spend 100's of hrs in climate control rooms tuning for all conditions this is almost impossible to replicate retunning the factory ECU retains. Whilst PFC has the options you have listed so do most aftermarket ECUs. Regardless of brand used Wofl, Motec, Aurtonic the results of imperfect tunes in all conditions are very common. Yep for most of the last 10 years PFC's were the best option, and again I'm not suggesting they are not good of if I had one I would switch to a Nistune but I am saying for me and IMO 99% of people looking at engine management options Nistune is the best option.
  9. Yes but it is no where near as obvious as custom wiring under the bonnet connecting to engine sensors, no MAF or a hand controller.
  10. What are you guys smoking, nurses earn roughly 50k first year out from Uni they only do a 3 year course compared with most being 4-5 years and start working paid part time for work experience after about 2.5 years. They can earn with overtime up to 70k in there first year. There system allows them to and encourages them to work shifts around additonal schooling to gain a few extra qualifications which as my mate did from the moment he started working and was completed in 2 years (ie the same time most other people get 1 degree) which ment he could then easily earn 90k per year working a standard working week provided he did the occasional night shift. They are actually well paid when you compare them with teachers, police, child care, scientists and engineers.
  11. I 100% agree that you need to talk to your tuner. Using a product they are not familar with or not happy to use will cost them more time and you more money not to mention that will not no all the ins and outs of the fine details. I am basing this on my experience of personally tunning a range of different piggy back ECUs over the passed 10 years and a couple of full aftermarket ECUs along with driving about 30 cars with full aftermarket ECUs (which according to there owners most thought they ran like factory and most drove ok but not as factory) and driving a perhaps 8 factory retuned ECUs which all bar 1 were just like factory. I do not tune for a living or for money I tune my own cars as I have a personal interest in this area and I do so as hobby. I have had at times cars tuned by so called experts which most did terrible jobs and IMO should not be allowed near cars on the other hand I have also meet some so called experts which did exceptional jobs. I am not saying the PFC is bad infact it is very good but IMO from my experience the Nistune does provide a slightly better result for all conditions along with less purchase cost and IMO less tunning time. IMO 99% of people aims and goals not to mention avoid the majority of defect issues a Nistune is a better option.
  12. Understandable that you cant comment further but without the full details it is somewhat hard to know exactly what went on even though from your description is looks to be very obvious. Please excuse the doubt though as police have been providing miss leading causes for accidents which dissagres with experts (monash accident research center) even in clear cut cases. I have posted of a specific example on which was a failure to give way was the cause yet police deemed cause of accident to be speed which I wont bother to post again. Unless the person has a medical condition such as diabeties or some form of alcohol allergy they will be fine to drive beyond at and beyond 0.05. About 9 years ago I took part in testing using simulator tests at different BAC readings. I don't remember all the details/results of other people but I was average and I was unaffected in my opinion back up by simulation results until about 0.08, once over 0.1 though it was a very quick decline. It is impossible to have different BAC limit for each person and there has to be a line and 0.05 is what we have. Whilst some other countries the line is at 0.08 I'm not unhappy at all with 0.05 but it will surprise most people how quickly they will get there.
  13. It is available for a wide range of Nissan ECUs (S13/S14/S14 N14 ect) but it wasn't available for the R33 when I got mine, this might have changed as there range has been expanding. (R33 is a very different design to other nissan ECUs so it might not be possible) Please check here for full details. http://www.nistune.com/ I am not sure what you mean by stage 1 and stage 2 but there is a consoul option for monitor and fault diagnostics and a full realtime tunning option. There is also type 1, Type 2, Type 3 ect (which could also be what you are refering to) boards that suit difference ECUs as I understand it. I would recommend speaking with Peter Taplin in regards to tunning. http://soarerparts.com/ Very good tuner the best I have seen and has a lot of first hand experience tunning/remapping factory ECUs from emissions testing to race cars.
  14. Nistune is a modified factory ECU allowing the factory ECU tune to be adjusted, I have seen a few cars running 300rwkw plus with perfect control and tune. Being factory ECU it also has perfect idle, cold start ect as well as knock detection and safety of separate knock maps (as per factory) which are also adjustable essentially it is the best of the best in terms of everything will work like factory whilst also being able to be tuned for seriously HP and much bigger injectors. What is the limitation in tunning range, I don't know exactly but the Nistune website has a number of cars tuned to around 400rwkw without problem. I have used a PFC on another car (don't get me wrong it is a good unit) and Nistune on a R32, Nistune IMO is by far the better way to go for 99% of people.
  15. If you have a converted ECU it takes 5 minutes to install a Nistune. Hand controller is cop bait showing off isn't a real bennifit. PFC requries a lot more tunning time and the engine will never run as well (no reason it wont as most aftermarket ECUs have more than enough adjustment and correctional factors but I am yet to see any aftermarket ECUs tuned to the level of detail that factory ECUs are tuned to accounting for all conditions).
  16. What are you basing this on?
  17. It is practically impossible to have a limit of 0.00 even though this is the limit for P platers, many things contain small amounts of alcohol which people are not aware of, including mouth wash, medication, deserts ect not to mention whilst your body processes about 1 standard drink per hr the last amount of alcohol takes much much longer. If you are going with the you cannot drink at all theory then the lowest reasonable limit is 0.02 compared with 0.05 and you can have 1 drink then drive. (In other parts of the world the BAC is 0.08 there are studies that prove this is a very reasonable limit) Drink driving laws are quite tough IMO at least for the minnor offenses such as just over 0.05 or P platers which read under 0.05. Years ago a mate of mine was done for 0.02 hadn't consumed any alcohol for 40hrs and was not drunk of affected by alcohol. He was walking for quite a while which IMO under these circumstances this was well beyond reasonable. But just to make this clear I believe being drunk and driving is desgraceful and should be penalised harshly.
  18. Sorry missed the GTR part, yep stock GTR cooler is very good. Add boost then keep saving for tunning.
  19. I dissagree, factory tunning is quite ok for BPU. Without a bucket load of tuning time with the power FC the quality of the tune will never be quite like factory. As you already have an exhaust and only 1k to spend I would install a really good FMIC add a little boost.
  20. The purpose of this thread was the article released 4 days ago which was new information and yes I agree that E85 is another 6-8 months away. I heard about fuel zone 2 months ago but I was told it was locked up and not for use by the general public where as last week when I was there someone was filling up. From what I can gather this is realtively new again not the purpose of this thread. The price was $0.99.xx and regular unleaded was $1.22.9. It is likely to become much cheaper when it is mainstream.
  21. I don't live near there or go passed it much more than twice per year. Either way 2 stations with E85 isn't fesible for use by 99.99% of people. The Caltex's and Holden's news is big as this will lead to E85 being available right across the state as other suppliers United Fuel Zone ect will most likely all start supplying E85 in many more locations. When it is by the looks of things early next year I will be switching over to run E85.
  22. I have read some info from the states which indicates maximum comp with 98 of roughly 12.5-13:1 compared with E85 14.5-15:1 for N/A. Race engines on race gas are running around 17:1. Guys running E85 similarly with race gas and boost are still running lowish comps E85 is approximately 105Ron compared with 110Ron race gas.
  23. Birds hopefully soon it will be, the article above says E85 will be available at 30 Caltex stations in victoria will be available by July 1st 2010. Caltex website states otherwise but only 2 months late "Caltex will begin selling Bio E-Flex in Melbourne from September and will have Bio E-Flex available in over 30 service stations in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra by the end of October, increasing to 100 metropolitan and regional locations in 2011." http://www.caltex.com.au/LatestNews/Pages/...m.aspx?ID=13192 You will only need bigger fuel pump and bigger injectors if you cannot supply enough fuel depending on your setup you might or might not be able to.
  24. Yes I agree but I can confirm this place now has E85 Fueltown 1150 Nepean Highway Highett (opposite Southland Shopping Centre) And reportedly there is 30 Caltex stations that already have E85 available by July 1, 2010
  25. Previously there was only one outlet selling E85 thus nearly impossible to use but according to this article there will be quite a few more. http://www.thegovmonitor.com/economy/victoria-rolls-out-new-high-blend-ethanol-fuel-36435.html "Oil company Caltex has announced the roll-out of up to 100 E85 petrol outlets over the next 12 months -- but only a handful of new cars will be able to run on the fuel."
