  1. Lowest point on the car is 105mm now, so just legal and hopefully high enough to clear After paint, much happier with how it looks Before looked real 😝
  2. I'll measure it up at the lowest point later and post it up Currently painting, with the oven all warmed up to 93°c
  3. After some googling of various websites IRT the best ride height for correct geometry I ended up going, hub to guard, 330mm in the rear and 345 at the front, these heights came from Flyin' Miata in the states as what they recommend (13" rear, 13.5" front) The rear needed to only come up 5mm, but the front came up 15mm Overall it is around a 25mm drop from OEM ride height, doesn't look all 4x4, and hopefully should be enough height to clear those pesky speed humps I have lost around 0.5° camber on the front, and around 0.2° in the rear, I have no idea about what it did to toe settings so I'll look at a new alignment next week to get it set up how I want, zero rear and a little in at the front I've also stripped the new intake and am currently cleaning and preparing the alloy for some paint, I've headed into work to do it as I can use the ovens in the soils lab to cure the wrinkle paint at 90°c Jackie has banned me from using the oven at home for stuff like this....🤣
  4. At my age, 59, I'm in bed by 20:30 nowadays 😴 I'm pretty much a solar powered device, powering up at first light, and powering down when the sun goes down 🤣 Oh to be young again.....
  5. Dumb question, but does the turbine spin by hand? Also, do you have a rag or something stuck in the intake/intercooler somewhere Hopefully it is just something simple you missed during reassembly
  6. Also discovered that the NC ride height needs to come "UP" at least 10mm to clear some newly found speed humps up the central coast 😫 Job for tomorrow, I'll start at 10mm up other both ends from where it is now and hope that's enough for our next adventure
  7. Nope, I stayed at some dumps in my youth, but now it's real nice or nothing 🤣 Currently kicking it at The Entrance
  8. Which manifold mate? Meanwhile......Mark is wondering how bonnet vents would look on the NC 🤣
  9. Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake, if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
  10. @KinkstaahKrinkle paint the "silver" alloy, not the red filter frame Engine bay heat won't be a issue worth worrying about as the silver alloy blocks it off on 3 sides, as for the top, the bonnet seals most of it and the big OEM CAI intake snorkel is still fitted in its original position I will head into Clark's Rubber when I have some time to grab some pinch weld to tidy up the alloy after I paint it As for performance, I honestly wasn't expecting any, the only reason I got it is because the intake noise sounds cool to my old ears when I'm feeding it the beans Sometimes it's the silly things you do in in life that gives the most fun, and I do love anything that makes cool car noises In other news: I survived 4 nights at sea with Jackie not throwing me over board, holidays are continuing now as we are currently chilling at the Beachcomber in Toukley, after taking the coast roads from Sydney in the MX5, top down all the way, Toukley is where I spent a good deal of my youth holidaying during the summer months, there's lots of reminiscing going on, and lots of beaches and old houses to visit Next on the list is to head to Batemans Bay for a few days, but we will take the Commodore out to stretch its legs, then Commodore hasn't really moved for months
  11. Dort sounds above 3k rpm are dorty 🤣 I might krinkle black the alloy 🤔
  12. Cobbers and Bullets were 1 cent each when I was a youngster
  13. Dragging some reo behind a ute or trailer will smooth out a dirt road, I've used reo a few times to do unsealed road maintenance when we didn't have any plant available It's best done when the dirt is wet though, and then you just let it dry out for a day to harden up For wetting the dirt I've used some 44 gal drums in a ute or trailer, and a water pump connected to a hose with a old sprinkler tied to the reo to wet the material down whilst spreading Basically just drive slowly up and down the road a few times dragging a few sheets of reo wired together with the sprinkler wetting it all down as you go
  14. I did a motokhana years ago with ??Sydney Sporting Car Club???, it was on a grassy paddock and was heaps of fun, I think it was north west Sydney IIRC The old R33 boat was covered in grass and dirt, but nothing that a good wash and detail didn't fix And thinking back, when SAU did the airstrip run in Goulburn years ago, where the old 33 won highest RWD MPH, the quickest RWD ET on the airstrip, and best paint IIRC (before the runs down the airstrip) the damage to the rear quarters from stones flicking up required them the get a respray I would definitely do a grass motokhana again in the MX5 Who knows someone that owns a farm with a big empty paddock Liability these days is a big issue though
  15. The boy just hit up google translate and it worked a treat, he said step one was "please urinate with precision and elegance", he then sent me the correct translation I get some new loctite for the small fixtures tomorrow and get some "dort" going after that 🤣
  16. Instructions seem simple enough to understand.....
  17. Purchased intake noise for the MX5 YEAP, a zero performance mod, but, after going for a spin with one installed (passenger seat ride), for me it is well worth the LOLS it gives with the intake noises over 3k rpm, just like the ITB's dort...........minus the top end performance of ITB's 🤣 Hang on, it is mad AutoExe JDM shit, so I'll probably get a sticker worth + 5kw
  18. The only requirements/issue with one piece tail shafts is tail shaft RPM, the length of it, the diameter of it, the pinion angle, and material used Daily driving at 110 kph it top gear with a one piece will probably never see any harmonic issues at ???? tail shaft RPM, but, at 200kph you might see some harmonic issues if your tail shaft isn't spec'd right I looked into this alot when I was looking at a new tail shaft for my VX SS after it constantly flogged out centre bearings and getting vibration over 160kph, in saying this my "pinion" angle from the gearbox to the centre bearing was the issue, slightly to much angle caused the centre bearing to flog out from harmonic vibration at high tail shaft RPM, but for me the issue was the 12mm lower engine mounts, after getting the angle of the dangle from the transmission to the centre bearing lined up correctly, and to within spec (OEM height poly mounts), the car is happy at 200 kph (125mph at the drags) now even with the OEM spec centre bearing and rebuilt OEM 2 piece tail shaft What's your tail shaft specs?

  20. Yeah, suppose so, tracking them nowadays is a fool hardy enterprise IRT risk vs reward But, where are they gone IRT Saturday and Sunday cruises I dig people wanting to keep them mint, but only to a point, the joy, for me at least, is driving them I suppose alot of people are treating them as assets now, not as things to use and enjoy
  21. Never, well......, some old BMW'S are kinda cool, like old Alfas and Fiats (althoughI would never own one), and I have a soft spot for old Bettles (punch buggies), as for the new BMW, VW and Hyundai's might be a blast on the track, I look at them like soulless tools
  22. Took the MX5 to Goulburn to have a early lunch with the daughter, took the long way home via Robertson pie shop, loaded the boot with apple turnovers with cream, and some rocky road, then headed back down the Pass and along the Hwy to Holsworthy Roof down all the way, life is good For a awesome day out we only saw a couple of cool cars sadly, a mint standard looking Evo 9 leaving Goulburn and heading onto the Hume Hwy was the highlight, I've noticed a lack of cool cars in the hills and Hwys over the last few years of my weekend cruises around Where are all the cool cars gone? Sold? Broken? Or to clean and expensive now to actually put miles on?
  23. I'll stick with the plastic containers, as stated by others, as it's where the old oil goes, I then just drop them off at SuperCheap, who apparently recycle it, or something.... I believe this makes Captain Planet not so angry with me for owning a infernal combustion engine, although he is still pretty pissed at me for using old engine oil to stabilise dirt pads in old workshop and factory yard hard stands in the pre 1980's There was nothing better than some old engine oil to strengthen and waterproof a dirt/gravel patch pad back then, and the rainbows that flowed off the pad and down the storm water drains when it rained was very pretty looking, I believe that practice is frowned upon nowadays 🤔
