  1. Another new used boot arrived at the painters, it was sent back as there was nearly as much damage as the original one I want to replace Finding a clean used boot lid is proving problematic, and I'm not keen on dropping $1500 on a new one from Mazda Sigh....
  2. Mate, I take this thread in random directions on occasion myself, so no foul I'm a old fan of MCM anyway, I like their banter, and enjoy most of the stuff they do
  3. Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
  4. People don't always want builds that are overly expensive, or have engineering/registration/insurance issues and head aches that come with them Whilst big dollar builds, and complicated stuff is interesting to watch, there is only a tiny % of people who would actually use this information, or have the spare finances to drop on said builds, whereas the buy a cheap(ish) cool car, and make it better, with a average budget, that the average Joe or Jane could achieve will always be a winner in my opinion
  5. Agree, but meh, I think is is based more on LOLS than actually apples to apples, like, who would have thunk a turbo 4 cylinder would not beat a NA 4 cylinder I think with just basic N/A mods, like a exhaust and tune, it would be equal to the Mini in its current form, maybe I know my current 2.5 would "chop the mini" as the midrange now has a night and day difference in power delivery compared to the tuned 2.0, by around 20kwatw and 30nm from around 2k rpm "ish"....... I'm kinda hoping that they do a N/A build, either with the MZR 2.0 or with whatever they decide to use If I recall correctly they did talk about K swapping one a while ago
  6. One would assume a turbo is somewhere in its future down the line given they slap turbos on pretty much everything that arrives
  7. I would be lying if I said I wasn't interested in what MCM were going to do with the NC I really enjoy their banter and occasional collaborations (like Alan from TSF, Ben from BCW, or any of the Haltech guys throwing around their experience), and I have probably watched everything they have put out
  8. Ok, still waiting for a date to get the cams installed on the MX5, why so long, because MX5 Mania has received a few new sets of different cams with different specs for the MZR and are currently trialling them, and working out what is best for 2.5 "powers" with stock internals, in the end if I go bigger than the Kelford stage 1 cams I'll need to look at the valve springs Hopefully I'll get the news on them next week As for the boot of the car getting fixed, I hopefully pick it up early next week, I was sweating on picking it up yesterday but, meh, it was not to be, so ne weekend cruising for me
  9. I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
  10. Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
  11. These things happen And I believe "we, the people, who modify stuff, and actually use it, cannot have nice things" It's just a shame that it happened so soon after paint I still win the award for quickly destroying newly painted panels I think, as my car came back from the paint shop all nice and shiny, until about 4 hours later when the boot was destroyed by a wayward locker that was blown around by the wind.... What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and poorer.....dooh
  12. Thry would be handy if someone brake checks you Like the old chariot racers images.mp4
  13. When I was an apprentice sheet metal worker, we did all sorts of "love jobs" for the staff, including a alloy drop tank and alloy door cards for a LX Torana As for that panel, it would be super simple to fabricate yourself if you had some basic tools and a hour or so of time
  14. Also, a tip for young players Check the dates on new tyres before they fit them, I always ask this question at the tyre shop, as they have tried to put "new" tyres on one of my cars a few years ago, but the build date was about 3 years old
  15. LOL, I sold the Skyline and had a supercharged VX SS Commodore for a few years, so a change in username was required, by law, I currently have another MX5, a NC this time, so a new, more suitable user name is probably due again...... As for me, I reach CRA in around 3 months, and most of that will be burnt up with some leave and some skyving off doing "pers admin", so life is bloody wonderful All the best with your endeavours 🫡 Matt, I resemble that, although, I did need to edit your post about my hair mate, although the height and demeanour you said is pretty accurate 🤣
  16. Joey, are you still in playing "spanner club" Mafia somewhere mate? Or you now out in the real world where you actually have to work for a living? BTW, the car looks clean, and the pods look sweet, are you removing to go full OEM type of resto?
  17. Me, I would clean it as best as I could, pressure pack brake cleaner is great for getting into tight spots, then liberally hit it with rust converter, then cover everything with underbody spray Underbody spray hides most, it not all, sins In saying this, if you don't have rust converter and underbody spray on hand, then as stated, a liberal coating of fish oil for peace of mind, then never remove the cover to look there again
  18. Not currently, I'm at the school where we teach people to build bridges and other fun things that involve making, or breaking things
  19. I have engineer in my job title One of or motto's though is "we make and we break"
  20. Yeap, legal modifications are limited We have rules and regulations on what you can do legally This is for NSW, other states have different governing bodies https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/vehicle-registration/how-to-register/registering-a-used-or-secondhand-vehicle/modified-and-non-standard-vehicles https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-13.464-Light-vehicle-modifications-Vehicle-Standards-Information-No-6-November-2013.pdf Lots of people just roll the dice though and just hope they don't get picked up, as the police and RMS occasionally run roadside inspections, getting "defected" for not complying can be a painful and expensive experience
  21. From when I was looking at getting the 86 engineered for the turbo, the joint said to put in a few euro 5 or 6 cats, then tune the car on a nice clean E85 tune When I was looking at a turbo for the MX5, it was basically the same thing, a couple of cats and a nice clean tune Although, it will depend on the year of the Jeep IRT emmisions standards required, and what mods are done, especially if it has a newer engine installed that requires a higher Euro
  22. I'm sure he has left signs, or, he is looking down, laughing That's my cunning plan for when I leave, lots of half finished projects, with no rhyme or reason of where I was actually up to, just to keep everyone on their toes
  23. Does that price include the rack time to straighten the frame and body and replacement of parts and paint, as well as the noise and emmisions testing The last engineering certificate I had done, albeit about 15 years ago, was around $1000 for a few inspections and the certificate
