Maaaaaad Paint match is spot on I'm loving the old school muscle car look, it even has the Mrs tick of approval, well she said it looked nice and shiny, which I'm classing as full approval In other, not really needed mod news: I'm getting some 1 7/8" 4 into 1 headers with ceramic coating, I was contemplating pulling my existing 4:2:1 headers and getting them coated, or wrapped because they look shite, but as they are 10 year old mild steel I came to the conclusion that it would be better to just get some new headers with internal and external ceramic coat, and get a shop to fit because #carntbefarkeddoingitmyself I went 1 7/8" because the small loss of torque down low from them isn't really a problem when it's making 950nm at 2500rpm Damn it Dunc, you beat my editing.....lol -
New shifter recommendations
The Bogan replied to Rios's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
This is the first I've heard of a brass shifter bushing failing and lunching a box Maybe a monkey fisted install? Maybe no lube during install, you need grease to lube that puppy...there's always time for lube Maybe cheap poor quality part? This is the how to I used years ago > Meh, mine never failed and the shifter was tight like a tiger Torque destroying gears, thats another story about 3 little cops, I mean 3 OEM gearboxes -

Trunnion bushings are in Old bushings had alot of sideways movement and fell apart when removed Engine is much quiter now Dropped of the car at my local smash repairs on Monday, getting the bonnet and scoop colour matched, hopefully get it tomorrow or Friday Funny how it hasn't rained for ages, then when the car is in the shop and I'm on the bike it pisses down I'm now looking at an old Land Cruiser or Patrol wagon to start a bush pig project with, my budget of SFA is limiting my choices at the moment -

Idle hands are "eBay's" plaything Found a intake cover from a electraglide limited, why, after the chop chop with the holesaw I did some "finking" and worked out that if the bike is caught in the rain it will have a free water injection mod....which isn't good, especially if it's parked up and drains into the TB So.....with the electraglide cover and using a nylon washer I can spin it around in the rain It isn't carbon fibre, it's just some plastic coating that will get stripped, and painted wrinkle black to match the engine I aslo purchased a fumoto drain valve for the LS, last time I changed the oil I ended up overfilling the oil by 1 ltr, trying to drain out only 1 ltr ened up in a oily mess, on me and the ground, I really should of got one of these for the old girl earlier, I've had one on most of my cars since the Skyline and it makes servicing so much easier when you can drain straight into a old oil container I got the adapter as well, I'm not sure if I'll need it, but the sump plug is slightly recessed and google says "I do need it" and "I don't need it"...meh -

Bored at work, again, so hole saws are a go go.....again I've been looking for a better intake cover solution for the bike Prior to getting the bike tuned I had the OEM one jerry rigged over the larger filter with the rear section removed, this gave it enough air but it was shiny chrome and hit my right knee when I was throwing the big girl around in corners Then I got this black pot style, which needed to be spaced out 20mm so there was somewhere for the air to get in Then I bought holes saws and had some wrinkle black laying around, so in went 8 x 44mm holes and on went some wrinkle And with more luck than good planning, the wrinkle paint on the intake cover perfectly matches the wrinkle black on the engine, I just need to get some mesh shtuff to stop bugs and leaves So far so good, and most importantly, the induction sounds boss at full noise down the back road at work I could have bought one for a "couple of hundred #becauseharley", but this ended up costing $30 -

Chop chop It has my black Harley touch up paint on the drill and holesaws.....holes.....and some pinch weld, so it is "all of the bogan" Makes me smile Waiting for a real matching paint jobbie I'll cut some laps at work later and see if it is a inny or outy air flow for under the scoop Time for some salmon and cheese toasties -

Top coat was average, meh, it will get professionally done once lockdown is done. I've laid some tape down on the bonnet and measured up all the points that are getting the scoop fixtures and spots for the holes, tomorrow is crunch day involving drills and hole saws If I screw the pooch a used bonnet is only $100 and a new bonnet is only $200 #farkenjustsendit -

Yeah, to me it seems that removing them is removing an engineered design for better combustion Is it a proven thing that they are the real cause for "possible" detination when running 98 Or is it more a thing when running on the ragged edge of a good AFR? To me, the sharper edges on valve reliefs would be more of a place to propagate hot spots and det??? -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pent-roof_combustion_chamber Faster burn time, by introducing turbulence at the top of the stroke thus improving combustion Designed by the frogs From my understanding most modern engines run them Why do people remove them.....?????? -

Rattle can time Preped and painted the under side of the scoop with some satin black, so far so good As I'm the only one in the office at the moment, hell I'm the only one in the building, I was able to set the aircon to 25° to get the temp up for painting Tomorrow should see the topside coated, the Septone satin black rattle cans are spraying nice and clean, well so far anyway In the end, it only needs to be a rough job......so I'll do my best.... Hopefully the office doesn't still smell like a paint shop after lockdown, once painting and curing time is done I'll open up some windows and throw some Nil-odour around ...... maybe.....meh....fark'it....I love the smell of spray paint in the morning -

According to Whiteline Rear: 6mm spacer = 10mm height Front: 6mm spacer = 12 Mine has 1 x 10mm in the rear, so and additional 5mm(ish), which roughly equates to a 8-9mm lift, which the tape measure confirms, before 360mm, now just under 370mm -

The fun Got bored and pulled the old thin bushes out from the rear, dropped it down about 10mm, so now it's 10mm higher that it was originally, and doesn't scrape the exhaust when leaving the driveway, with 3 adult sized people, and one short fat man in the drivers seat What happens height wise when I put in the the new strut top bushes, that I purchased ages ago and found in a box in the shed yesterday, and the 5mm isolators is anyones guess, possibly anywhere from 10mm to ?????, depending on the actual condition of the old strut top bushings The not so fun My vinyl wrap is currently lost in shipping, and as I'm impatient, and bored, I rummaged and found some stuff for painting the scoop I sanded and layed a thick coat of primer filler to the scoop, I'll leave it for a few days to cure/shrink and then sand down and throw some satin black on it until we come out of lockdown and I can get into a smash repairer for colour matching By going of my previous "attempts" at spraying panels with rattle cans, I'm hoping that the satin finish will cover my inevitable stuff ups, meh, it's not like I can take the car anywhere soon anyway Stupid Covid -
I don't know about old Skylines but my 2017 86 was insured comprehensive with Comminsurance, when it was written off in early 2020 the insurance guy said they would pay market value Market value at the time was between 38-40k for my make and model, according to prices on cars advertised and from what they lend to customers buying typical cars, they went halfway and I got 39k for it They said it didn't matter that I only paid 31k for it originally, they said to sell it I could have got between 38-40k for its condition.......pre smashing into a jersey barrier Red book at the time valued it between 30-35k The 39k didn't cover what I spent in mods, but it was much better than I expected Maybe I was just lucky Red book currenty have my VX SS between 5-7k, I did talk to Comminsurance about how much my car is actually worth, they stated that they would need to look at what the cars in typical condition to mine are selling for at the time, when I questioned the red book prices they said they don't rely on red book as it is so out of date with current trends that they cannot use it for estimates I would definitely ask your insurance company what they class as market value if that is the way you go

Ref: my above post, LOL I really should have researched what a 10mm lower rear bush spacer actually does The 10mm spacer acually raises the rear by around 20mm, the geometry gods are laughing at me now, I do clear the driveway now, by alot I'll pull it apart again and remove the thin spacer, which is about 6mm, this should lower it about 10mm, hopefully..... To get the correct rake back I've just ordered some front 6mm upper spacers that should add 10mm ride height to the front Hopefully this should correct the rake, well, maybe.....???? I would prefer a bit more height at the front to help traction, worse case scenario is I get some 8mm spacers later down the track, maybe......???? Anyways, the bush spacers are cheap, and the rear is a cake walk, the front on the other takes twice as long Meh, test and adjust, it's not like I can do anything apart from working on the car anyway -

Got bored and found some 10mm whiteline spring bushes when I cleaned out the shed, so I spent a hour chucking them in When I originally put in the new FE2 springs in, to stop the car from scapping everywhere, it still scrapped the exhaust tip when driving off the driveway with the kids in the back, so as I do, I bought them, then forgot I bought them I just stacked them under the original ones, hopefully now the extra 10mm stops the exhaust tip scrapping when I drive off the driveway when the kids are in the back Either way I got a little spanner therapy -

On a side note: I also have the VF HSV mid section and rear boxes, sans the bimodal valves sitting in a shed at work if anyone wants it, for free of course Apparently it's a easy little upgrade for the VE-VF SS If no one grabs it it will hit the scrap bin shortly -

The boy has been asking when WSID is back open, I promised him a run down the strip in it When it opens I'll post up a bit of a skid pic and some ET/MPH to appease the masses, whether ya'all are happy or not with it will be up to contention As for street skids, I can pretty much guarantee that if I decided to lay some big 11's down the road the constabulary will magically appear in my location and kick me in the balls, hard, my risk aversion to infringements is quite high, and as the boy who would be taking the pics is currently studying to join the enemy, I mean NSW police, I cannot risk him getting pinned doing dumb shit either In other news a mate at work just put a full engine back exhaust on his VF HSV sedan and was going to leave his old exhaust at the shop that installed it, he asked if I wanted any bits so I grabbed the HSV short tri-y headers and cats They are now stored in the shed, covered with WD40 and wrapped in plastic I may end up putting them on, I still want to "fix up" the insulation on the current headers, if these do fit I can paint and wrap these puppies and swap them out, plus from talking the tuner, I can easily pass emissions with a good tune and the OEM HSV cats without losing any real power -

Got bored at work, sooooo.......conducted some preliminaries to mad bogan chop chop Centered the scoop, took some measurements and made some reference points I'll get 5 x 110mm holes in easy, which is heaps of area, so it actually should do something, what will later be determend when it's fitted and I steal some wool from the Mrs knitting basket for some wool tufting at the opening of the scoop, it's either a inny or outy, hopefully a outy Previous testing looks positive for an outy though Also fitted the windcreen squirters to the wipers as the scoop covers the original ones in the bonnet, they work a treat and work way better that the ones on the bonnet, which was a win, I do need to get some small zip ties to tidy it up but that will be when I'm allowed out, unless I can find some at work For the meantime I'm waiting on some black vinyl wrap so I can cover the scoop until I can get the car to the paint shop, I'm also waiting for some 5mm well nuts to fit the scoop to the bonnet, I'm rolling with 3 a side, hopefully they turns up soon The well nuts have a 1.5mm lip which will give the bonnet a "little" standoff to avoid the scoop craking, they are the things that motorcycle screens use, I tested "the look" with some blue tack squished down to 1.5mm and I think the gap should look fine as the scoop is really well made and the fit to the bonnet is excellent and without variations Hopefully next week will be chop chop fitting done Farkin chop chop
