nsw/act Toyota 86 BRZ Tomei UEL Header
The Bogan replied to The Bogan's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Don't do failbook. You would be surprised how a little NA 86 goes with about 200hpatw, it ain't no rocket ship, but it definitely isn't a slouch getting around town. About the same as a stock turbo S15, only the 86 handles better. LOL, I had to google ASOS, and my cap bills are as curved as fark. Buy my shit.... -

I said sell GT and buy GTT You were the one saying to piss money away modifying a NA Skyline. Im a advocate for common sense not stupidity. I dont focus on one brand, I like alot of different brands, just like a SAU club meet or motorsport event, everything turns up, no one cares what you bring, do I like Skylines, hell yeah, would I own another, yes, this one, but Mrs and bank account says no > Lifestyle and mentality, LOL, as you on smack, I'm sure the OP doesn't want to piss money away, even in his current lifestyle and mentality. If he is smart and saves his money instead of pissing it away, he can get his GTT, or GTR, or Golf R, or 135i, or DR30, or...a house. But feel free to tell him to spend his money in whatever way you see fit, that's what I did. That's the beauty of forums. Why listen to me anyway, I'm just an opinionated punter voicing my opinion, just like you. ROCK AND ROLL -

I do love the cost estimates for making a silk purse from a p i gs ear, and by silk purse I mean a not very reliable car that will break, be a waste of money, and near impossible to sell, unless you strip it and sell the parts, and then you'll still lose a ton of cash. OP, if you like RWD what you need is a BMW 135i M sport. I went for a spin in a tuned one, epic. Pretty cheap too. Hang on, I was advocating reliability wasn't I. Nevermind Bugger -

I would need to drop 50k on the 86 for a reliable 300kw. Cost of car 31k+50k = 81k of 1250+kg of RWD Skids. Whilst fun, financially idiotic. In the end resale would be like 30k, maybe...... I'm not short of cash, but I'm not short of brain cells either. I did the whole waste a ton of money on a Skyline 10 or so years ago. Plus, whilst the RB was a good engine, there's a heap of new stuff that pisses on them now. Hell, in the NA RB Dyno thread in here my engine would be king, sadly my engine is a FA20 not a RB25-26-30. Disclaimer: they do make more torque than my little 2.0ltr. My car weights ALOT less than them at 1250kg, and is faster than them everywhere. I'm happy to put donuts on the line on a Wednesday night at WSID. Mmmmmmmm, donuts -
Your using Nistune for the frontloader? Does is have enough hektic features, I was sure you would be running a Hellatek plug and play with the systems dash..... hows else you gonna know the RPM of the washer

Funny story, I'm pushing a massive 145kwatw in a NA 86. The only other car that was this much fun on the street was my MX5. This includes my old 1995 380kwatw R33 GTST, my 2015 215kwatw WRX STI, and a plethora of V8 Holdens and Fords, oh, and and a Mazda RX2 bridgeport . I looked into boosting my 86, both turbo and supercharged, the issue was, to have any form of reliability over 200kwatw, I would need to build the engine, get a stronger gearbox, axles, temp control for the oil, and then, to be legal, engineering cert, insurance...... well that was another story. You really don't want to crash a heavily modified car without it being insured, for the mods, the insurance company will laugh at you, even if it's not your fault, because your car is "unroadworthy" in the eyes of the law, and rightly so. My hasty calcs had me at around $50k to boost the 86 the right way, it really adds up if you want to do things right. So, the 86 ended up with suspension and some breathing mods and a tune. Good thing is I can thrash its guts out every day and it doesn't break, it handles like a go kart and costs nothing to run, it is a perfect daily driver street car for a old hoon, and all within the speed limits. Disclaimer: I do want to build something stupid again though, but something special, steel bumper, something with a stupid motor, yes it will be a waste of money, and yes it will spend 99% of its time in the garage. Finding a cheap clean base is the fun bit. Keeping it hidden from the Mrs is the hard bit. I keep looking at 1970's Toyota Crowns, and wondering how a boosted Barra would fit in the engine bay, now that would be stupid, stupid fun. TL;DR. If you are going to the trouble of building something, build something unique. -
Get some 22 gauge aluminium. Get some cardboard, a beer carton works best, so buy beer. Make a template out of cardboard. Make another better one. Leave it a week and make a better one, you will definitely need more cardboard from beer cartons, so buy more beer. Do some googling on folding sheet steel, nutserts are boss for sheet steel, self tapping screws work, pop rivets are easy but painfull to remove. Make the body and lid off your version ?? template. Paint in black VHT wrinkle plus. Use some edge push on "stuff". You can insulate the insides of the box if you want, I never have, the important bit is to try and fit it as tight as possible to stop the majority of engine bay heat getting to the air filter. Profit Stolen picks of cover and "edge stuff" from the googles Finally, you would have used all the cardboard for templates, so you will need to buy another carton of beer, for the cardboard of course. Award built one after the car ate the original, with that oil mod thingie award does. After that one was eaten they built another, that lasted a month or so, then after a run down the stip, that one started to whine. Award said the OEM gears just weren't up to the level of torque. I found the torque rating for the box ages ago but I cannot recall what it was exactly, it was nowhere near 700nm though. They recommened some brand of gears which were well out of my price range at the time, IIRC it was going to be $20k or something all up. I sold the car at that point, it was to expensive to keep thrashing, one of the next owners put in that dog box. It's a auto now though, doing roll racing at Eastern Creek.

Um, ok. The first paragraph was to the OP IRT doing it the easy and cost effective way, and ending up with some form of reliability, but, written in a confusing and disjointed manner, as per a previous post. Gt to Gtt = buy a Gtt or get a halfcut or wrecked car. I've known some people who have knocked together a kit to turbo a NA 34. After the dust had cleared they stated that it would have been better to: A. Sell GT and buy GTT Or B. Sell GT and buy GTT Resale will also take a hit, personally I wouldn't touch a NA to a turbo swap, registration and insurance could also be problematic. The last bit was a quote out of your post which I though was the most confusing statement in the whole thread. In the end I don't care what people do, hell, I constantly do stupid shit, but, as I get older, wasting money on stupid shit has lost its luster. I concider turbocharging a NA 34 as wasting money on stupid shit. The outlay to do the job right, will have you at GTT money anyway. What's a GT worth? $10-15k, GTT,s go for what, $15-35k? So, sell GT for $10k ish, add $15-20k ish and buy GTT. How much is it going to cost to turbo a GT, register it, and have some form of reliability. Me, I would buy a R32 and drop a RB25 in it, see, now where is the logic in that......and here's me, with all my experience in wasting money on stupid shit. -

My views of not buying a turbo car, and then putting a turbo on a non-turbo'd car, but also not using a half cut, from the same model of car of your non-turbo'd car, that came with a turbo, is like "I can only tell you what i did not tell you what or where you wanna buy." That should clear things up nicely....... -
MLR's 86 not a build thread thread
The Bogan replied to The Bogan's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
That is NOT something I would like. More like a old steel bumper Datsun or Toyota, with a modern engine, maybe.....or maybe a R32 GTST with a RB25, or a 30 or 31 or.... a Crown, or a, a, a.... frack knows -

Had a play. Punched out cat in front pipe. Tomei UEL header showed no gains over the punched out OEM header. Hell, the punched out OEM cats with the 2.25" OEM stuff showed typical performance to the Tomei UEL with 2.5" catless exhaust. There is only so much NA powers you can wring from a 2.0 ltr boxer POS. I will be reinstalling the punched out header and selling the Tomei. Making more noise for no extra performance is pointless. Yes I'm getting old... I'm keeping this little puppy though, but, I have a itch that needs to be scatched. Some cheap old POS might end up in the yard, the plant yard to be specific....at work.......hidden......from "her" -
