  1. I shouldn't have sold my mint baby blue R31 wagon years ago
  2. Drive on through those pearly gates Neil
  3. Next performance mod for the MX5, well, performance of my radio reception with a new OEM aerial... The car had one of those stubby 50mm aerials, which is now "in the bin", and the radio would lose reception of ABC Classical driving into Goulburn, nothing worse than losing Wagner mid way through "Ride of the Valkyries" or some other classic when I'm pumping the tunes at 11 Performance test will be on Saturday when I head into Goulburn to lunch with the offspring and visit the "Grandcats" As for the rear bumper, the trigger is triggered, it's booked in on the 29 July to get the rear bumper resprayed
  4. I did have a chat about boost when I was picking up the car, Mania recommended a little turbo over a supercharger for a 4 pot as the parasitic loss from spinning it up is substantial Pricing was $13k drive in drive out for the 2.0 turbo package which can net around 180 killerwasps and alot more tourqes, or, add on top of that $13k, another $7k for a 2.5 swap with the turbo drive in drive out for a little more hsprs up top, but a big chunk more torque everywhere else But no, I'm more than happy rolling around in the little 2.0 NA for a daily, all of the handling goodness, but none of the FI issues associated with putting FI on a stock NA engine and driveline If I wanted a "faster daily" I would have picked a different car The Bogan Cruise Ship is my car with boosted powers I feel I now have the best of both worlds, a fun and reliable little daily that I enjoy throwing/thrashing around town, and a big fat cruiser that has more power for the streets and Hwys than what I can actually use and still keep my licence Jackie has also decided that whilst she did enjoy driving the MX5, any shopping expeditions we do will be in her ASX, or the Commodore for long cruises or trips away, Jackie is much taller than me and isn't keen on folding herself into, or out of the MX5, she has hit her head on the top nearly every time she has got in it with the roof up, she calls it the stupid little matchbox car, LOL, perfect........
  5. Not a chance Red Leader In other news: popped past my paint and panel guy for a quote to respray the rear bumper on the MX5
  6. Picked up the MX5 MX5 Mania set up the ride height, picked the alignment specs, did the Whiteline sway bars settings and BC dampening, which I'm more than happy with and won't fark with, it loves being thrown around corners, and it is more compliant over bumps on the road than the original suspension, which at 100k km on the stockers, I assume the old dampers were toast Ride height is 330mm hub to guard front and rear, and makes it over all the big speed bumps at work, the bars are hard front and soft rear As for how the car goes, more of everything everywhere, and as it only made 100 killerwasps and 175nm pre tune, an additional 20kw and 20 nm of torques everywhere made quite a noticeable difference, idle and cruising is typical to stock as well As for the added "noise" from the header, it is minimal, and only noticeable outside, the in-cabin noise hasn't changed New Exedy clutch is, well, new, and feels great, same same for the new calipers, and the HEL braided lines make a noticeable difference to the pedal feel, again, I assume the old lines were well past their use by date Overall I'm extremely happy with the results, and rev match is fun (I cannot heel toe for 5hit) Massive power dyno circle jerk pic, LOL
  7. I would email them for the info you require and if/how they support your car with setup and features There's also a ton of YouTube vids with ECUTek stuff out there as well
  8. With ECUTek you purchase a "key" to load and modify the tune, once you buy the "key", cable and software you can play around all you want, the tune and ability to change it is locked to that cars ECU's with the "key" though My 86 ran ECUTek, Pulse Racing could run it up, log and play with the tune to get it on point, same thing is currently going on with the MX5 at MX5 Mania as we speak
  9. Both, and because I'm dumb I picked at it.......and lifted some clear coat, meh, shit happens
  10. Body kits are so 1999 Worse case scenario is I get my local paint joint to fix and colour match it for a couple of hundred bucks
  11. With some of the left over sound deadening stuff I did the boot in the Bogan Cruise Ship, unsure if will make any noticeable difference, the Minister for War and Finances managed to fall asleep within 5 minutes of hitting a Hwy before anyway There's also a bit of the Carbuilders foam stuff as well, more for something for the spare to sit on/against
  12. Pics work fine for this old rooster on a Samsung phone Car looks comfy Uncle Duncan
  13. Only about 500 km on them at this stage with an unknown alignment, it is getting an alignment over the next day or so after fitting some new suspension, I'll see how it feels and wears over the next few thousand km Recommended for NC with street rubber: Front Caster: 5.0° Camber: -1.0° Total Toe-in: 1.5mm Rear Camber: -1.5° Total Toe-in: 1.5mm
  14. I have RS4's on the commodore, around 15k Km on them and they still have plenty of tread In saying this my alignment settings are purely street and the car mainly sees Hwy cruising (Bogan Cruise Ship) I have run RS4's on heaps of my cars and rate the highly for value for money IRT grip and life I wanted RS4's for the MX5, but, the sizing I wanted wasn't available when I needed them, so I got Pilot Sport 5's I feel the PS5's are quieter and better in the wet and cold than RS4's, but the RS4's win in the dry, as expected from a tyre with a lower tread wear
  15. The Bogan sports car goes in for it's tune tomorrow, I did bite the "I'm to lazy to do it all myself" bullet, and justified it to myself as I don't have the time but I have the coin, so I am getting them to install all the parts that have been amassed over the last few weeks In other news: "someone" reversed it into the Honda, the Honda is fine, but the MX5 now has a small ding in the rear bumper now, not enough to worry about fixing, but just enough to trigger me when washing the car 😢
  16. I had the Blitz bonnet on my old boat and never had a issue with overheating anywhere Same car, but, after I sold it, weirdly I cannot find any pictures of it when I had it, maybe I deleted them all because they "triggered' me...LOL
  17. Put some eBay spec sound deadener under the carpet in the boot of the MX5, 2 mm butyl self adhesive rubber stuff, I actually thought I got 1 square metre of the stuff for $60, turns out it was 4.5 square metres, LOL It actually made quite a big difference to the interior with the roof up, I assume because there is no spare in the boot to dampen the sound it just acts as a big resonance chamber I'll do the boot in the Commodore later, and there'll even be enough left over after that to gift the rest to one of the guys at work who has rebuilt a old 944 Porka as a weekend cruiser I also binned the old school goop and inflater thingo for some Michelin puncture repair in a can, I actually got 2 cans because they fit perfectly in the old goop and inflater bag that mounts to the trim in the boot
  18. This is why I like my Varex rear box and a big resonator in the mid pipe When open, it is obviously louder, but not annoyingly so, and it has all the deep choppy goodness of a camed 4" single on a V8 putting around the neighbourhood, it also sounds it like war at WOT, which I 🥰 Prior to the Varex, start up in the garage would shake everything in the garage and rattle the plates in the kitchen, now, on early morning start ups and late night arrivals it is as stealth as 10 stealth things, apart from the little bit of blower whine you wouldn't know what is under the bonnet, which keeps the neighbours and sleeping family happy
  19. New calipers for the MX5 arrived already, fun job for Monday 😀
  20. Pulled the lazy pin and ordered the 4 new calipers for just over $600
  21. Finally put the new brake pads in the Mazda It took longer to Jack up the car and put the stands under it than actually changing the pads I'm loving my new floor jack though, super low, lifts really high really quick, and lowers smooth as silk Only issue was one of the rear caliper pistons was tight to press in, I'm tossing up on either doing a kit on all the calipers, or just buy new calipers, as I can get shiny new stock DBA (PBR) calipers for around $150 each I'm heavily leaning towards the easy way out of shiny new calipers, basically the amount of time spent rebuilding and cleaning the old ones outweigh the cost of new items Either way I will pull the pin tomorrow
  22. Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full
  23. Meh, whilst the Honda is a "really" good car and has potential if you want to drop coin on, it was uninspiring for me to look at, but, it did serve its purpose and is now in the boys hands, his happy, his girl is happy, as she wasn't to keen on the noisy old Patrol, and most importantly, the Minister for War and Finances is extremely happy that her "little baby boy" (6'2 nugget who is currently training to be a copper, which will make 3 coppers in the immediate "circle of trust") has a well sorted reliable car that doesn't guzzle diesel Me, I'm more than happy with the NC MX5 that I replaced it with, it's a fun little car that I like looking at, like driving, and yes..... I do like the fact that the maintenance and modifications that I have done/will do are plentiful and relatively cheap, well........ while staying naturally aspirated slow that is, and that's all I really need for a fun little daily, I can rev the 5hit out of it rowing through the gears and never really break the speed limit In saying that wicked word, "modifications", I've already ordered something for some noise and an additional "3 ish" horse powers, or whatever it gives, in the form of a header, and, a new set of "cheapo" BC coilovers that are already sitting in the shed waiting to get put in, I had the same BC's in my old NB and found they were fine for the street, hwy, and the occasional track days I did in it, they have 6kg front and 4kg rear springs which is about 10% stiffer than the stock springs which I found worked well for their price I've also already been in touch with MX5 Mania in Dural, so once the header is on it will get a ECUTek RaceROM tune there (I cannot rev match for 5hit, and I loved the RaceROM rev match and FFS in my old 86 "RIP") In other, maintenance news, I put some new sparkler plugs in it, and have a new set of DBA Street series pads to put in over the next day or so, I'm running the DBA street series in the SS and Honda and really like them, they work great and are not dusty at all I've also booked in a few days leave over this weekend to give me 4 days weekend do some paint correction and give the leather seats some conditioning and interior some Bissell and steam cleaning OCD lovin', the carpet and interior looks clean, but from my experience with the Bissell IRT carpet, and the steam cleaner IRT trim, looks can be deceiving I've also found that finding a detachable hard top is proving problematic, the main reason why I didn't like the NC initially was the power retractable hard top that I seen them with gave the roof line a weird look, the detachable roof though looks good, and is a same shape as a NA/NB hard top, similar, but unfortunately not the same as it has different fixture point on the front, so fitting a easy to get NA/NB detachable hard top is no bueno New Old cars are fun, cleaning, hunting and playing around brings much joy How are your beasties going? Do you still have the Skyline with the LS???, or Barra??? that you were playing with
  24. True, will I do like a good loud exhaust it cannot be ear bleeding or loud and front on the Hwy Lucky she didn't ask my daughter this question, she wouldn't have got the response she was after for her poll
