  1. My experience with 4 point harnesses are they are rubbish, I would prefer the OEM 3 point. Reason: to have it tight enough I found the lap section would pull up to my guts, sure it held me in position, but was uncomfortable, and in the event of a front end prang, I think there's a good chance that you would end up in the foot well, aka "submarine". A 3 point negates this by letting part of your upper body to shift forward, 5/6 point uses your crutch area, I vote for the 6 point in this regard. IMO you either go OEM or 6 point. Opinions may vary
  2. Yeah, sounds similar to my NB with the same mods. The 86 is way less intrusive, but, it still has the stock headers which has a cat, the front pipe also has a cat, albeit a high flow one. I've heard a 86 with an aftermarket header and no cats, it was obnoxiously loud, and the drone inside the cabin was horrendous.
  3. Just like Christmas morning, only I'm not drunk. Bonus unexpected items were new swaybar links to suit the front shocks and the 20mm drop they are set to, all 86 kits get them. Going off their fact sheet thingie, and my current ride height, 370mm front and rear, it should drop the car 20mm all round, I'm hoping it doesn't cause any clearance issues with the local speed humps, I can always lift it up a bit if needed. Just need to find some time to get it all fitted. I'll need to look at rear camber after that, the cheap option is adjustable bushes, but they only give +/- 0.75°, the other option is LCA, lots of adjustment and some come with adjustable toe arms, I'm not sure if I'll need them though, I'm hoping I can zero the toe with the OEM limited adjustability, I'll just wait and see where the camber and toe sit after the install. At this stage I'm looking to get -1.75° front and -1.0° rear, with 0 toe everywhere, castor is not adjustable, I have no idea if this will actually work well though, proof will be how the thing feels and tyre wear, f**k, who am I kidding, I'm going with blind luck at this stage. I'll then test and adjust with my limited skill and poor driving technique. Rock and roll ?
  4. If you want a fast car car the 86 is definitely the wrong car. The 86 can be made faster, to a point, but it'll cost ya. I put the 86 in the same league as the MX5, fun little beastie with limitations and compromises, I got the 86 over the MX5 because it has more space for stuff. I've gone for weekend trips and there is enough room in the boot and "back seat" for my bag, and the girls 4 bags (because female), there's no way in hell I could have fit all the stuff in a MX5. Plus I love the look of the 86, and am dumb enough to drop near on the purchase price in mods to have it the way I like. Being dumb has its certain benifits ?
  5. Still got all 3, I'm open to offers
  6. From my experience the "head drain" acted more like a vent for the crankcase, but that was long ago and I am trying to forget about RB's and oil control. I still have nightmares about everything being covered in oil.
  7. The sound tube only really added sound higher in the rev range, 4k up, but it sounded weird when everything was OEM, sort of like a small air leak....at your feet, sort of.....but once I did the exhaust, header back, the exhaust was all you could hear. Now with the sound tube gone, and the new inlet installed with all the resonators removed, I can hear the induction coming from where it's meant to come from, the engine, not my feet. The induction isn't overly loud though, it's still got the OEM airbox which knocks out some sound, but, it's a natural sound if you get what I mean. Sounds really good IMO, especially from around 5k up to 7k, all that NA goodness screaming of its tits. And you really need to keep it screaming off its tits though, under 5k rpm the engine doesn't have alot going for it. Don't get me wrong, it's "nippy" down low, but it's not until 5k rpm that the engine wakes right up. The exhaust and intake seemed to help, but the only thing that would help more under 5k rpm would be some boost. A good tune might help a little, but a tune on its own, without some air being jammed in, wouldn't be good bang for your buck. Hell, from some really rough calculations, for me to get something over 200 killerwasps, and still be reliable to beat on, it would cost upward of $20k to do it right. A nice responsive setup running around 200kw would be real sweet though. Unfortunately I didn't find $20k under the lounge when I last looked, if, and when I do.... you can bet that there will be some boost getting pumped in. But I'm keeping it stock, so that's not likely to happen.....?
  8. I sort of felt the same, but my OCD was relieved by they fact that the OEM wheel nuts I'm using are chrome, thus, in my easily appeased mind, everything is OK and right in the world.
  9. $140 center caps Super tight fit and aluminum, still $140, dang
  10. I think the little girl is missing one major component IOT impersonate a pidgeon. It does go "ssshhhwwwwwhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa" good now though. I was unable to fit the resonator, even with some "lube", the resonator is meant to knock out some of the induction noise, and add a whopping "claimed" hp increase of between 1 or 2 hp. It now has the supplied plug under there. There seems to be no downsides to the install without the resonator though, after a good old fashion thrashing, the car seems to run as good, if not better, than before the install. Not that I could notice a couple of hp either way, but the response from idle to WOT "seems" better. I'm sure if I was a kid, or Merican, I could claim that it gave me a 10hp increase in power, and knock off 0.5 seconds from a 1/4, but I'm not, so I can't. Whilst it still couldn't pull the skin off custard it does sound good now with the zorst and intake. In other news: MCA gear should be in my hands tomorrow or Friday, hopefully......
  11. Only a small inconvenience. I actually aways wear safety glasses whenever I'm under the car, usually if I got shit in my eye working under the stands my head would bounce between the floor and some part of the undercarriage at least 10 times....
  12. Sounds like a typical GTR...?
  13. I would love to start up a shop like that, with a gym with only racks and free weights Oh, and a bar It would be just like my old garage, only without the comments of, "how long are you gonna be", "can you keep the noise down", "how much have you drunk", "do you think it's a good idea to drink and train/work on the car in the state your in". That shit gets tiresome..
  14. I've never used one but here is an option, maybe, depends on cost though. https://www.diyautogarage.com.au/about/
  15. Drunken Ebay purchase turned up this morning Genuine parts, LOL
  16. What do you consider a major service? If it's a basic fluids, plugs, filters type of thing invest in a good jack and some jack stands and do it yourself. You will save thousands over time. Nothing about it is hard. If you cannot see yourself doing a timing belt, if that's required, any local good garage can do that, just get them to do the timing belt, water pump. The problem with getting basic work done at "tuning shops" is that they cost alot of money, this is a fair thing though because you get what you pay for, usually, but that is really only required for their technical expertise, there is nothing technical about doing the basic service stuff. Plus money saved can be better spent on parts, or shiny things for the missus to take her focus of the car parts that she found stashed in the garage. Plus there is nothing more satisfying than working on your car. Basic service parts cost around $100 - $150 dependent on parts required.
  17. Does the 4AGZE still run the oem charger? They are pretty cheap to rebuild, throw a little turbo on and go for the win. I do love the old 4AGZE donks, IMO a well thought out turbo 4AGZE will out perform a NA 2.5 in every way. Plus fitting/electronics wouldn't be a issue. Throw up some picks of the beastie.
  18. In other news: the oil warmer/cooler is bringing oil temps up from cold a good deal quicker. Testing procedure from cold: previously, when my coolant temp would get to 90° my oil temp would be around 60°, now oil is at 80° and only takes another minute to hit 90°. Oil tends to stabilise around 95° for longers when I'm up it. Time, and summer temps will tell a better story IRT how well it works. Overall I'm really happy about the oil coming up to temp quicker though, waiting for oil temps to come up before thrashing it is tiresome..
  19. Alcohol and Ebay are not good bedfellows. At least this will clean up the induction hose where the sound tube was, there is currently a lid from a old oil container blocking it. As for the blanking cap for the sound tube that is supplied with the kit, I mistakenly thought it was for the little plastic 45° elbow at the fire wall, it's not, it is meant for the body of the sound tube, why in the hell would you remove the front section of the sound tube and leave the rest of that abomination sitting on top of the engine? Added powers (from the intewebs) are from 5hp to + 20 hp, LOLOLOLOOLOLSSSSSSS I'm just hoping it doesn't lose any power or response, that would be sweet..wouldn't it..... Note to self: dont Ebay when I'm drunk.
  20. Oh, and screw you you ham fisted Toyota service center greaser. My oil filter tool had no joy, ended up doing the old hammer and screwdriver trick. f**king monkeys.
  21. Whilst the bonnet was up. Took 2 cans of whiskey and 1 skinned knuckle.
  22. I think Pulse does one for a similar cost using a modified AVO set up and Ecutek, should see 170ish ballpark, dependant on supporting mods of course. In other news, I found something for the rubbish bin, ye olde sound tube.
  23. If I did decide to boost it I would also throw some rods and slugs in it, that's a given. I wouldn't go for anything over 200 though even with rods and pistons, apart from the clutch, the drivetrain appears to be fine there, from 250 up (with the addition of all of the resulting torques) the gearbox becomes a consumable item. Hell, the turbo BRZ with 180 is just about perfect anyway, it was super responsive and sounded wicked, it has been boosted for 2 years with only a better clutch to hold it all together, strangely its held together otherwise, albeit it hasn't seen the track and is his daily driver.
  24. Job for Saturday I estimate it will take 2 cans of whiskey to do, coils should be here on 28th, and a oil drain valve should be here around the same time, still got a few thousand K's before that goes in. I went for a ride in a supercharged 86 with about 160kw and a turbo BRZ with about 180kw. Supercharged was fun, the turbo, with all its wooshy noises was brilliant. Note to self: NO.....
