Ok John, Keir Wilson has been confirmed as a definite starter at the LS1 Drag Nationals (yes there is a Skyline/Ricer bracket). It would be excellent for you to bring your drag car, so the crowd could see Australias two eight second GTRs shooting it out. Good prizemoney too!
-
Mate, you will realise soon enough that they are a lot more fun than GTRs. :headspin: Easier on the pocket anyway! Sorry to hear about the 33 We got an event coming up at Heathcote in early April that you might be interested in.....give me a call

Looks like we have a little challenge coming up John! I was talking to Mick late yesterday and he tells me you are going out to the track in the XR6 once he has finished setting it up (early next week?). Cool! How about some farmyard action, with XR6T versus VYII Tonner? That would make for some great drag racing. Keep in mind the Ute muster drags - 23-25th Jan AIR

XR6 Turbos have several chronic problems Noisy gearboxes VCT solenoids Software bugs Faulty O-Rings in the water pump Faulty PCV Valves Aerial Module problems and general other fit and finish stuff

Dont get too excited lads, only 'Commonwhores' and 'Fowlcans'

You need to ask why it spun the bearing in the first place. Normally with a Honda its got a lot to do with oil surge rather than rod loading. Have this looked into very carefully before going ahead with any rebuild, or it may just happen again

Ford XR6T 60' 1.92 sec VYII V8 60' 1.77 sec

As a short guide... My XR6T ran 12.9 with 300rwkw My VYII ran 12.8 with 210rwkw Good luck with the Ford Powerup John!

Steve, Point 1: The XR6 has been drive cycle tested for ADR3700 and 2800 and passed type compliance on both fronts. It costs money, but it can be done. Speak to a consulting engineer and pay the expenses if you want to do the same for your car. Have a considered approach when questioning the legalities of peoples products and actions, particularly when you represent a business on this forum. My Soarer, like your car, was in full contravention of these same ADRs, and, no, should never have been driven on the road. Point 2: I do not agree with the way cars are being defected at the moment. It would appear that minorities are being singled out for persecution, rather than the whole lot being treated as a level, and equally accountable playing field. Every car on the road has to meet its original ADR type compliance, or have proven engineering documentation to show same, regardless of brand or manufacturer, to in part avoid potentially being defected. That is, and always has been the law. My point is, and was, while there is so much unnecessary 'bling' around, they will look past the local heaps, and like blue hatted Bower Birds go straight for the bright shinies. As for Cefiro scenario? RTA refused to make a comment. Publishing companies also arent too interested in the potential scuffle with the Police Media Unit - a VERY powerful group of lawyers. All I can suggest, is that if you dont want to be defected, then adhere to the law. If you dont want a legal car - and theres nothing fun about that - then dont draw attention, be careful where you drive etc. etc. Thats why my Soarer did 1500km in a year...which is one reason I got rid of it.

Unfortunately its the demographic you are in. Most that get pulled over and defected richly deserve it. Some, like you, dont. The Police have a very clear mental picture of what they consider to be 'troublemakers' drive, and Skylines one of them. If you dont want the hassle, drive a Falcon. If you dont want to drive a Falcon, make sure your car is bone stock. There is no easy answer

Yes

Not the same company. AEM from the US isnt AEMS from Melbourne. Ive used earlier versions of the box, pretty good actually.

Matt, Simon said you were in at Morpowa today, got some troubles with the car. Everything ok?

No probs 9K would love to

My ute just made 310rwkw @ 10psi boost. Its a great ride. I am sure I can help you. Enrico I have some time Friday afternoon, give me a call, 0414 437 356

Geez John, not even a kind word! And I tuned your ute, your 34, your 33 (on two different computers), and your other 33...... Mate, I forgive ya! :burnout:

Thanks Champ! :bahaha:

If I dont do the work, I wont have the hands on knowledge, so its a tricky game to say the least. I only ever try to do 1 or 2 tunes a week, and generally only 'tricky' stuff. Balancing the two is a 100hr/week passtime

Ive tried to keep out of this one as long as possible, but will respond now. 1) Firstly, I dont have a lot of hair...so I dont have bad hair days. I am sure you may have taken that comment out of context 2) Mick Stanics high quality work speaks for itself. TRY09s was a good example of that. My differences with him are purely philosophical 3) Using Morpowas dyno facility has been fantastic. They are great guys, professional, and have leading edge equipment. Top marks. 4) Mark Tilbrook is a great bloke. We go back many years. Ive seen him perform absolute miracles. Top mechanic, and knows Skylines extremely well. 5) If anybody else here can 'real time' tune a standard Skyline management system for fuel/spark/boost cut/speed cut/rev cut, I would be interested to know 6) Tweaking a crank angle sensor, fuel pressure, and plug gap doesnt constitute tuning an engine Just shortened it a bit to make my points clearer

If this actually is the case, that they are using HPI as a reference point for issuing vehicle inspections - particularly in the case of James car - where other than some tint, and a cage, it has nothing really illegal about it, then I am going to take them to task. All photographs of James car were performed on a closed track, not on the street, and as you will see in the story he refuted ever being involved in street activity. Which to the best of my knowledge he isnt. For a start there will be no more plates. Its a blanket thing. We will remove them with a screwdriver, simple as that. However they can also simply plug a name into a database with or without rego number, and pop, up it comes. Secondly, I want to find a copy of one of these letters, so I can use it as a reference to the 'enthusiasts' that work at the RTA who it would seem buy these magazines to read and issue letters via remote. I will find out their names, their exact occupations, their phone numbers, how they go about their job, what car they drive, why they are specifically targetting imports - which they are - and what effect this has on road safety. I have a list of names of RTA employees that have actively, and quite proudly it would seem, been involved in harrassing what I like to consider to be my clients. If they persist in this activity, I will quite happily submit for publishing their photographs, phone numbers, rego numbers etc. Nothing illegal about that....just as there is nothing illegal about seemingly taking rego numbers out of my work. Remember though, these guys have the ability to take down your plate on the way home from work and send you a notice in the mail the next day. Its not just magazine stuff you need to be wary of, but any sort of misbehaviour in front of the public. Unfortunately it would seem that the whole thing is only going to get worse for all of us.

I think the situation needs to be clarified a bit. John specifically requested his number plates be used, shot, left on the car, the whole way, as a specific bait for this kind of response....over 6 or so issues, including a cover, poster, and detailed explanations of how the 'streeter' was turned into a track only racecar. The RTA obviously got concerned with the prospect of having a 9.4 second 155mph car with little intrusion protection, reduced frontal strength, and the inability to run on 'servo' fuel on the road....as they should. I wouldnt want to have Munro heading towards me or my family in that thing, on the street. Word is one of the RTA guys has also watched both the fast GTRs here run, and was horrified with the way they torque steer all over the place at high speed. Watch for much increased checking of Skyline suspensions at the RTA now. RTA inspectors take rego plates at the street drags - have done for years, with one or two of them working as scrutineers. They also have the ability, even while driving home from work to take down your rego number and send you mail notification of a pending defect if you do no present within XX days. They do read most of the magazines, but are generally pretty cool about it. Normally they will only take action against known trouble makers (ie. numerous dobbed in rego reports for illegal racing, burnouts, etc.) or those that want to continually rub their nose in it.

Tilbrooks sell Microtech. Morpowa will tune the stock ECU

The Soarer box, the R154A, is a terrible thing to use. Needs a smaller, lighter clutch swinging off the back of it (OS 4 plate at the moment) to allow better synchro action. XR8 on the other hand is a joy to use. Even if it is a bit like a boat.
-
As for me not running that day. I ran the black XR8, did 10 or so passes and recorded 13.01 @ 111mph, which isnt bad on stockies with a full tank and a package that weighs nearly 2000kg with me in it. Simon did all the work prepping the Soarer, has a good record on being nice to the equipment (10.5 second Lancer on a stock gearbox), and wanted to have a go. Hes a good mate, and a good mechanic, so I let him. I wanted to concentrate on wasting all those LS1s, and Skylines in the Taxi...which I did

It was one of the Torsen ramp faces in the diff that busted, not the box. Its quite nice again now.
