  1. Hi, I have a Type X 180 that does not have the original suede material on the door cards and I would like to retrim to the original (or close to). I do have the original glove box cover with original trim and was wondering if this was the same material as what was on the door trims, if anyone can confirm? Any leads on material or a trimmer in Sydney appreciated
  2. Yes, another existing customer here with several policies. Insured value the same, premium went from $300 pa to $420pa, which percentage wise is quite a hike. My car would probably be near the bottom of the food chain being an RPS13, but the overall the cost is much cheaper than the alternative and I've always received good service from NRMA-provided I'm not at fault, so I'll stick with them for now.
  3. The euros are tempting, but out of factory warranty they are a bit of a gamble. You can get an extended factory warranty on most if the original hasn't lapsed and the car hasn't done too many ks. I faced a similar scenario last year but piked on the euro (S5) I was looking at and went for the Lexus (ISF). No issues to date.
  4. I'll throw in another vote for the IS-F. I've seen 2008 models for less than $60K with less than 50000kms . Insurance is also pretty reasonable when compared to the Euros, roughly 20% cheaper for me. The MY10s are the ones to get as they have the proper LSD but they're still around the $70K mark. S5s are going for $10-15K more for similar age/ks, definitely a stunning car but well short of the 400hp of an IS-F. From what I've read IS-Fs have very few issues (the odd rattle mainly) where as most of the Euros I'd be reluctant to pick up unless it came with extended factory warranty. The S5, 135i & 370Z would be my also rans.
  5. For mine, not only is the initial buy in a concern but I would suggest the residual value after the warranty expires will be nowhere near the likes of a high end 3 series coupe. But I suppose these cars may well be purchased by business customers who can offset this via depreciation. Infiniti (or its distributor) really need to get its pricing right as price reductions later on down the track is akin to burning bridges with existing customers.

  7. I'm quite disappointed with that pricing estimate, even if they only offer the one spec that includes all options that is a big ask. I know there are different financials at work in the US when compared to a small market like Australia but going on the example in the link below we are being charged a premium. The US gets the Z for $37K we are paying around double that here so I suppose that is what the G37 estimate has been based on. http://www.motorauthority.com/car-compare-results/infiniti_g37-coupe_2011-vs-nissan_370z_2011
  8. I'd be requesting from the seller, the auction sheet, deregistration form for the car and also the service manual for the vehicle, K's marked on these should be consistant with the odometer reading. If the seller can't come up with one or more of these be very careful going ahead, personally I would walk away given the prices dealers are asking for these. Less than 10000ks the car should look virtually new. No wear on pedal rubbers, switchgear and the like. Have a look around the driver's door jamb for signs of dealer service stickers (or remnants of) that may have been removed to conceal the true ks.
  9. I got a quote from these guys in 2008 for a commercial hire purchase agreement on a V35, they were willing to finance the lot-no deposit. Didn't go ahead with it after I ended up buying a non import with cheaper finance. http://www.stopwatchfinance.com.au/alliance.html
  10. Shouldn't worry too much, they're probably really just Corvettes with body kits. Dunno why they pulled out the LS that'd be 2 much work.
  11. A good overview of the Spec V, even that unpleasant matter of track warranty is raised. http://www.drivers-republic.com/dr_tv/inde...amp;area=videos
  12. How was the gearbox mount when the box was pulled out, sometimes when these wear out you might get some vibration, maybe check engine mounts are tight/good condition as well. Clutch thrust bearing, do you still get the noise with the clutch pedal in(to the floor)? Just a thought, check you haven't flat spotted a tyre.
  13. Spotted black V35 coupe at Gate 7 Eastern Creek yesterday after the drive night was washed out. There were a few other nice rides there: Lexus ISF M6 RS4 Lambo Diablo VT (I think) 'vette C6 pity it got canned would've been nice to see these run.
  14. With money no object I'd go a GT3RS or GT2 over a GTR. I enjoy driving and learning what the car can teach me about the way it handles under different conditions, the 911s have this sort of feedback in spades. I haven't driven an R35 so I'm not sure whether it could match a 911 in this regard, but I drove a few of the 996 series 911s and they really are a great drive, you have to treat them with a bit of respect or you can end up in the scenery. I get the impression from most reviews of the R35 that it turns even the most lame steerers into driving gods, this not a criticism, but it's not the challenge or the sports car experience I'm looking for. I'd reckon the Porsche would be harder to drive at 9/10 10ths than the GTR would be. A generalisation it may be, but if you can drive a 911 at its limits, you could probably get the best out of most cars. It would be interesting to see what Jim Richards could do with an R35, he might end up winning Targa Tassie again.
  15. Another interesting article on the GT-R v GT2 @ the Ring http://magazines.drivers-republic.com/driv...etruth030/?fm=2 Basically, they managed to get hold of a GT-R & GT2 and belt them around Nurburgring for comparison.
  16. The Herald's Drive section on Saturday 22/11 mentioned Nissan OZ had announced a return of the Infiniti brand to Australia, other than a supposed launch date of late 2009/2010 there wasn't much more info, but did mention the convertible. If they price these cars right this time they might have better chance of success.
  17. I believe it's the same with the V35 03-04 206kW 05-06 212kW (rev up) 06+ 222kW or thereabouts.
  18. A mechanic I used to check out imports recommended sourcing cars from southern Japan, he claimed that in the north, roads are salted during winter meaning cars from the north are more prone to corrosion problems.
  19. At the moment I'm finding I've had to move away from the more mainstream financiers and deal with brokers when it comes to financing grey imports and this is for cars that are already here and complied. I go for commercial hire purchase agreements but I'm being asked for a 20% deposit by the mainstream guys, this ruins any tax breaks I may be eligible for. Some may put up the finance for a 5 year deal with no residual(balloon payment) as a lot of these companies find valuing the V35 and imports in general, difficult, so this makes it a bit safer for them. Also I found the interest rate being charged can be up to 5% higher than if you were financing a local car. With other less conventional financiers they offer to waive the deposit and over value the car by 20%, I'm not sure how this works, to me it sounds like someone will get a phone call from the ATO or ASIC. I've found they also like to alter the conditions while I negotiate with the seller, in my case I had to pull out of the deal.I suppose it's a question of how much do you want that car? There's a few good places still willing to take a grey import on but for me they are getting hard to find.
  20. I used a company called State Roads, $220.00 for the inspection, they have a guy who knows Skylines & V35s and do on site inspections. The inspection is fairly thorough. http://www.stateroads.com.au/
  21. I'm not sure about the V35 set up,but in most cars it's a good idea not to use the handrake immediately when you park up after a session as the pad contact can warp the rotors, find some where flat and leave in gear. Let the car cool down after a getting off the track, at Eastern Creek or Oran the access roads or a marshalling area does the job, just run the car up and down them for a few minutes. Check your tyre wear and pressures after each session, and adjust your pressures to a level that work effectively under track temp conditions. Most people tend to run too higher pressures reducing the amount of tyre contact with the road which will overheat the tyre quicker. It might sound obvious but it never hurts to check the wheel nuts before you hit the track. Try to get a more experienced driver to show you the lines of the track by following them around a few times. And dont' forget: Drive it home Drive it home Drive it home & have fun.
  22. Just wondering if anyone's experienced the 6MT getting stuck in gear. I was test driving one recently, the first MT I'd tried so was just running through the gears, clutch in & not moving and the box got stuck in fourth. After about a minute of mucking around with the shift it came good and never did it again. Would you think it's just one of those things that happens or could there be more to it.Car is Series II coupe <20000ks. cheers Chris
  23. Hi All, Just a bit off topic, but can someone tell me if the 5 speed semi auto does the throttle blip on the downchange? thanks Chris
  24. Hi All, Another one here looking to pick up a V35 Coupe (hopefully a manual Premium), and from the info on this site and G35driver I'm starting to put the V35 puzzle together but I had a few questions I hope I can get answers to. The Brembo package was only available on 03 & 04 models, is this correct? Did the Brembo package include an increase in size of rotors? Did the later models adopt a larger brake package as original equipment? I'm starting to see cars being advertised with a 221kW engine, did the V35 get the engine upgrade at the same time as the 350Z? Finally, was the V35 (2003 on) originally specced with Xenon HIDs and local compliance laws require conversion back to Halogen or are they just simply Halogen projector headlamps. Are the later models (06 on) able to keep their xenons for compliance? Sorry for all Qs, looking forward to getting a car. cheers Chris
