House in Hokkaido?? Awesome!! Are houses expensive up there? I havent even been off Honshu yet - Miyajima doesnt really count does it . Yokohama Chinatown is definitly one of the top places on my mental list to visit, might try for some jobs around Tokyo - my contract finishes at the end of the school year - March. Maybe visit Yokohama then. Woops thread hijacking in progress

hehehe I had a bad feeling it would be a dead end. There is a bit of a mod community for BZ2 active even now but no one has tried porting the game to a newer engine sadly Thanks for the replies anyway guys..

Its for a PC but I was hoping for a game with the RTS element - for example in the old Battlezone 2 game you build tanks, factories and whatnot but you can also run around on foot or in a vehicle and shoot stuff up. Alternatively you run into an uplink centre and get an overhead (normal RTS) view and build your base or send units off to attack etc. see here http://en.wikipedia....ki/Battlezone_2 if you dont know what I am talking about. Was fun but graphics are shocking by todays standards obviously and the gameplay was a little frustrating at times so I would really like to play a newer game along the same lines. By the way thanks for the replies.

Hi, has anyone got any recommendations for a game that is both a Strategy and Shooter game. Mostly for single player along the lines of Battlezone and Battlezone 2 if anyone remembers them. Preferably not requiring too high PC specs to run. Thanks in advance.

havent you spent time in Hokkaido? I heard it has gotten as low as -30C there although I could have completely misunderstood as it was said in Japanese. Gifu was pretty cold around the time of the HKS day - about 30cm of snow in the city - I made a snowman .... deformed and miniscule but a snowman nonetheless .... I called him John....John Howard....he is all melted now.

Looks like an amazing day out. Was it open to the public?

how about playing an older (non steam) game - Unreal, Quake 3, Halo, BF1942 or something. Should be less hassle for people to get on and they can be intense if you get enough people....just a thought. Cheap to buy if you havent got them.

Says my version doesnt match the servers. What version is the server? I dont wanna have to stuff around with steam if people are only getting 8kb

tried but: Host_Error: Unexepected authentication protocol 164949417

Cool

Maybe people tried to get on the server but couldnt? If we do have trouble getting on the server is there someone to contact? How do we do it? Are you using the latest patch or...?

No worries. Good luck with whatever way you decide to go. Do plenty of research - I would have rather have bought a netbook in Japan to save the hassle but it would have cost about $350, new ones on American Ebay were the same. I ended up buying mine new for $200 in Australia so it worked out way cheaper even with postage. You really have to research the specific product you want rather than accept generalisations like America is cheaper for computers or whatever (which it sounds like you are doing heaps of research anyway). I can definitely understand about wanting a portable PC. I dont even really miss not having an optical drive - most periphal drivers are on the net nowadays and there are plenty of free programs available too. Then there is always Daemon tools when you need a virtual drive - of course its a different story with a gaming machine. Hopefully it all works out for you. Oh by the way if you do get one transported I recommend not worrying about postage tracking, I got it on mine and I had the netbook in my hands before the tracking said it had left Australia, absolute waste of money (not that its expensive but it is absolutely useless).

830 is great. Are you doing it through steam or setting up a server? (sorry if this question has an obvious answer - newbie to CSS)

Thanks mate that what have been awesome, sadly I only just saw your message and have already been. Well worth the effort. I want a Boomerang 8^) nice bit of gear. Thanks for the help too Elrodeo, ended up buying tiks at the venue due to multiple stuff ups including an overnight bus- never use them if you are taller than 3 feet...less than one hours sleep is not cool unless it involves repetitive bass and flashing lights. On a side note it was great to meet the SA peeps. Not only do I have South Australia to thank for producing my beloved VL wagz but also producing a great bunch of people. Good luck with rest of your trip. Have fun, be safe and contact me if you need help in Japan.

That is AWESOME!!! will have to look into that. Hopefully the monthly account keeping fees are low. Thanks enormously for taking the time to post, most appreciated.

I am not voting but will try and join whatever is chosen. Hopefully there are more people like me and you will end up having more on the day than have voted.

From the point of importing a laptop you wont be able to ship the Lithium ion battery by airmail. I recently had a Netbook sent from Australia to Japan and had no problems whatsoever apart from the battery (Australia doesnt do surface transport to Japan so I am just running off mains at the moment). It cost under $50 and took about a week.

An out of touch one? I remember the good old days of Quake 2 and we used to hang an onion off of our ps2 mouse which was the style at the time.... ahhh back to the nursing home for me

I had to check wikipedia for a couple of these so in the extremely improbable event that I am not the only one capable of such ignorance: CS:S = counterstrike source BC2 = Battlefield : Bad Company TF2 = Team Fortress 2 L4D = Left for Dead SC2 = Starcraft 2

Great photos, thanks enormously for posting. Out of interest did the deer in Nara find human flesh as delicious in '76 as they do know? No matter how much you say 私はおいしくない (I am not delicious) they still want a piece of you.....in fact they want the whole damn thing. On a personal note I was born in 1976 and am living in Japan now and loving it so it is fantastic to see how it was then...once again thanks so much for posting.

Thanks mate. I have been using a JP bank account for a few months now and have found it pretty good (only being able to use free ATM withdrawls when the Post Office is open can be a hassle though). As far as international remittances go I am getting such a small amount of money after all the deductions taken out in my new job that it will be a long time before being able to send anything back. Hopefully I will get a pay rise in April - I might even get more money than I could get on the dole in Australia.....awesome!!! I am in central Japan (Chuubu) so no Shinsei Bank for me. Thanks again for the info though.

Sorry for the naive questions but I will ask anyway. Are those rims held on by a single nut? Out of interest has anyone ever fitted these type of wheels to a street car? I realise at 14inches wide it would require most cars to be tubbed and massive wheel hub mods, probably with a custom diff and suspension setup and thats just for the rear but just wondering if it has been done.
