  3. Hi guys im in the process of finishing my bottom end but ive stuffed up and thank god i relised now rather than later, i did my studs up with loctite and tensioned them not thinking at all that thieir supposed to be finger tight with the arp lube, the question is what torque do the rb26 nuts for arp maines need to be ??? And the 3 longer studs what iis the key to them? Do i need to trim them and why if so!?
  4. Help me please so many secrets im not told ??? Why do i need to trim them?
  5. Got my block at work so i can work on it on Saturdays which is awesome, This week i got my bearings, squirters, crank and 1,3,4 and 6 pistons in was a good learning process for me, one thing i was a little unsure of was the arp main studs... i tightend the studs to what i thought was sufficient but then tightend the nuts to the standard torque of what the genunie nissan bolts are at... which are 42-52 nm i think or 52 to 62nm not 100% forgot also the endcaps on the rods i did 17nm and 62degrees also (standard spec) next weekend i may get to finish the whole bottom end
  6. any 1 here ever grinded the valve stem down instead of buying new shims? will it work that way ?
  7. Yeh im going off the sheets + my boss i trust him with helping me hes 63 years old and been in a real successful business for like 36 years.... so yeh theirs nothing new in mechanics man an engines an engine all do have their issues but im sure ill ask him about what u have told me and well work something out ... ill also put up my clearances here to get some opinions too ill let you know when im about to assemble thanks for the heads up appreciate it

  9. Hey femno, all the clearances will be checked and checked again at my work (workshop) i will be assembling the long motor then bringing it home to attach ancillaries, Duggens balancing in reservoir is my machinist ive herd nothing but good things about them and apparently hes that good i don't have to even measure his work lol, but i will any way the cp pistons come with their own rings.. i assume they should be spot on if any abnormalities are found they will be going straight back lol it is my 1st time building an engine i figure throw myself in the deep end now learn on some good shit im so optimistic that i wont f**k up if anything does go wrong i will be happily pulling her out and redoing it all again untill i get it spot on im planning to open my own business when i get my papers so i gota lot to learn

  17. do i put the new cams in 1st then measure or do i measure with the old cams ? im lost lol i have the engine manual shows all the standard clearances cant i cheat that way ?
  18. i have a build thread in the overhaul section OMGGTRS Rebirth i just uploaded pics have a look The shims look ok but im sure ill have to buy new shims and redo all the clearances
  19. Head off this weekend and inspection shows me reasons for low comp in cylinder 1, is fair bad pictures are decent but in person when u feel it its deep. also alot of ware on the lifters cams looked like they had small bits of rust on them must have been sitting around alot how sad... The other cylinders seem as if the engine had been rebuild before the cylinders had that honing look not sure if this is factory but on a 300,000km engine i wouldn't think the marks would have lasted anywho hope to send block off to machinist ! wish me luck!
  20. one of the only reasons im sticking to these cams are that any bigger lift eg 10.xx mm cams would be so big that apparently the head needs to be cut a bit to fit them using a dremmel tool or something so i shit myself n thought ok maby i just stick under the 10mm lift lol any1 able to confirm zebra?
  21. Hi guys In the process of building my 1st rb26 i am a little bit distressed as i have not enough knowledge on this part of the build so i come here for some to shed some light thanks 1st question, decided to stick with Tomei type B poncams 9.15mm lift cams on inspection of my lifters noticed they were fairly bad as they have heeps of gashes in them from the shitty camshafts, price of tomei lifters are $500 not inc freight OEM are like $58 for one! The TOMEI Solid Valve Lifters RB26DETT are recommended to be used when upgrading the lift of the cams to over 10.25mm. The items are composed of chro-moly steel, cold forged to be stronger and light weight (32g). that is the description of the Solid lifters from TOMEI notice how they say recommended to be used with cams over 10.25mm.... can i buy them still ? and use with 9.15mm cams? 2nd question is why are they called solid lifters? are the oem ones not solid ? they look pretty solid to me lol explain this please? Cheers guys!
  22. Did some progress this weekend but was held up getting the head off so i can send the block to get done reason was i did not have a harmonic puller so i could not get to the the lower timing case ah well this weekend will be the strip complete and the rebuilding will take place.!
  23. hey ash not much knowledgeable in the suspension area just wondering what application the suspension is suited to as the asshole who last had my gtr decided that 3 TIEN and 1 Standard shock was the way to go lol
  24. u can run the car fine u just wont have a/c when u try to use it do u have an aftermarket harmonic balancer? curious because some have overdrive and are not ment to use the a/c belt when racing and stuff...
