guys no one is saying that a drag strip will remove hoons all together, that is never the case. at the very least the strip will separate the hoons from the true car lovers, thus meaning harsher penalties can be in place for those who get caught doin a 1 wheel peeler out of macca's carpark on a Saturday night. even if you were not going to run, imagine having a place where your club could meet to catch up and watch some tuff street cars have a few runs without being thousand yard stared at by police. its a step in the right direction to improving the over all image of us car lovers, i would much rather spend $100-$150 on wed night out at the drags than throwing it over a bar for some over priced drinks in town.

im gonna take a guess and say mallala's owners dont want a qtr mile out there, the track has been around for donkies years and been very successful so if they wanted one id say they would have built it already. places like AIR and this proposed port adelaide track are close, there a brief hour drive, lay down your $30-$50 to run, have a few runs, chat with all the blokes in the pits, and cruise on home like the good ol days. total cost is like $100, for entry, fuel and a burger and coke and is a great night out and gets all the temptation out of your right foot. problem with mallala is it is a mamoth drive, entry is always starting around the $150-$200 mark and you will need new brakes, tires a whole tank of fuel and odds are you are gonna brake or strain something out there so a day out there starts to look at $500 ++++. i went out to AIR basically every 2nd weekend with my old man for 16+ years and couldnt wait for the day i was old enough to have a car worthy of taking down the strip and my licence, i know i only drive my car once a fortnight now and id love for that to be a cruise up to AIR and a few runs with some mates. so essentially my "high powered death machine" is only being really used in a safe enviroment surrounded by firetrucks/ambo's

id like to say good work to the bloke from wrx or subaru owners club who was on channel 2 news doing a press confrence expressing in a sane, well thought out manner reasons why we need some form of affordable motorsport in adelaide. for him to get that kind of coverage on a predominatly grey nomad channel was great. but 2 thumbs down to the labor dickhead who they cut too afterward who shrugged off the question when asked by a reporter and went straight back to what his PR people told him to say "hoons, hoons, cars, hoons, drags, hoons" in a stern voice.... backwards thinking from a backwards government

ok, all the people stating that a drag strip will not have any effect please do your research. you are plain and simply wrong...... it will not get rid of all the dickheads, but makes a massive difference for a small amount of chump change considering the income alone from speeding fines in A was over $70 million (cant remember exact number). i would have thought anything pro-active to save lives would be a little more consiered? also dan your right, imports make for f**k all of the speeding fines, road crashes but the media and gov love them scare tactics

in defence of webber, the bloke has the worst luck in the world. rarely has he got a bad finish due to "his driving", its generally car failure, car failure, car failure...... put him in a ferrari/mclaren and i garuntee you he would top 5 every race. i mean take a look at his qualifying, he is more than likely always in the top 10. i think he is a bloody good racer, just has never been given a solid race car to compete at f1 level, and all the hate towards him, you realise he every year finishes mid pack at the end of the year? that aint THAAAAAttt bad is it to warrent the hate?
