  1. Boost starts building about 4500, but 5000-9000 is the power band. Pfitzner dogbox is great on full song, but man it's a pain in traffic. I am testing the box for Simon, so will wait to see how it handles the torque when we do a 'race' tune on the engine before making a decision on the suitability of the box. The large cams, big single turbo, & 1000cc injectors all start working together in unison by 5000rpm. Just wish these cars weren't so heavy( with fuel & two people its easily 1850kg), if they were only 1400-1500kg they would truly be amazing. Thats the advantage of GTSts, but then hooking up the power becomes a problem. No beating the laws of physics I suppose. I wont be bringing this car out on fri night cruises around the city, but when I'm ready, will bring it out on an afternoon cruise up in the hills so you can all see it in action. You wont see it for long though, cause this GTR kicks butt!
  2. Picked up the GTR this week. Made 348rwkw at 0.7bar, then after a few kays & an oil change, made 420rwkw at 1.3bar. The car feels very strong. Mick & co at Tilbrooks have done an excellent job with this current build up. We will leave the tuning on the conservative side for a while so I can get used to the car (& the crazy gearbox) then later we might put some better fuel in & crank up the boost a bit more & see what it can do down the 1/4. Country roads are what this thing is built for, so will be good to get out of the city & stretch it's legs.
  3. Nah, I've got it, but will not put it on till the new year. Still goes aight for a 1750kg stocky.
  4. Babow - thats bad luck Enrico. I'd like to come - are turbo fords allowed? u can jump in with me Enrico(if u dont mind not being in a Skyline!)
  5. Btw - Happy Birthday Martin Hope You Have A Good One.
  6. Hmm. I wonder how many of the wise posters on this thread HAVE ACTUALLY driven an EVO 7 or 8!!! Nothing wrong with posting an opinion on looks etc, but if you had driven one of these cars hard, back to back with a tough GTR you would see that for what they are, EVOs are fantastic cars.GTRs are better tourers - definately. Can make bigger power - & do look meaner I agree. But when you take an EVO up a twisty mountain road all that is forgotten - they are sick rally cars & will leave any GTR behind on the really tight stuff + they are 4 doors so can be quite practical for shopping etc! I love 'em. Miss my VII heaps since I sold it in Oct. The 'unofficial' price on the VIII + del/rego/stamp=$72K Still better than the $85K odd that the VIs were & you get a much better car. I think the VIIs look tougher than the VIII, but that wont stop me getting one when the time is right. Closest thing to a gokart for the street that I have ever driven (& I did 10,000km in the VII) inc a short stint on a dirt track **cough cough.
  7. A farmyard battle sounds like fun Martin.Ute drags in Jan could be a goer. Mark,Mick & Tyson have done a great job on the R33.It only needed some light tuning & a few accessories fitted but was not completely finished, so rather than rush them, we will leave the last finishing touches till the new year. I'm dissapointed not to be able to run the engine in over the holidays - but thats modified cars for you. It did sound very tough on the dyno, & the pfitzner gearbox feels great. Of course Cheeky, you will be taking shotgun honours when the car is driven. After all the cruising I have been doing with you, It will be nice for you to be the passenger for a change. On another note - whats the deal with cabin changing Drag combat to the same weekend as our 4,6&rotor nationals here in Adelaide??? Obviously, the NSW cars will not come across when there is an event for them in Sydney, & why would Keir & I spend thousands to travel there when we can run our GTRs here? Doesn't make any sense to me!
  8. Well, I cant believe that cabin have changed their event to coincide with the 4,6&rotor Nationals in Adelaide on the SAME DAY!!! Obviously they are not interested in GTRs doing 8 second side by side passes! Why would Keir & I spend thousands to race in NSW when we have a similar event in Adelaide on the smae weekend?
  9. I'll keep the ford stuff in the XR6Turbo forum where it should be - there will be plenty of time to check the ute out next year when it's done Clint. In the meantime - are ther any plans to go for a cruise before the middle of Jan? Be good to catch up with those of you I have not seen for a while.
  10. I was interested in the Capa set up, but after going to Melbourne to see simon at Nizpro I decided to purchase one of his stage II bolt-on upgrade kits.As this is my tow ute I am not keen on going further than that, & just wanted a simple, ready made kit.The R&D on these kits is impressive & the product look great - hope it goes well too. The street GTR is the one I am excited about - should have it by the end of the week.
  11. Warranty? Dont be weak. Never stopped me before. Short engines are $1800 approx. If it breaks then it wasn't good enough & needs to be made better anyway. Dont know anyone with a GEN III V8 that hasn't done edit & extractors. The cars can easily be returned to std if there was a problem. The ford should be the same. Some will be happy with std power, but if u want more u have to take the plunge. Some new ford turbo owners might wait 3 years till the warranty runs out before modifying - but I am not interested in that - to each his own.
  12. The XR6T is 150 odd kilos heavier, has leaf springs rather than the holden's independent, & does not handle as well (but the SS had bilsteins). This one is auto 'cause the ford 5 speed is cr#p & can only tow 1200kg.Power delivery is good, & overall the ute feels very good to drive - love the dash/interior except the poxy cheap door interior door handles. The modded SS had 235rwkw & 6 speed, so ATM would be quicker than the ford, but not for long - I have already ordered a power upgrade kit for it which should put it in the vicinity of 270-280rwkw & buckets of all important torque.I think the SS would be shamed with this new setup, but I will always like Holdens.(Unashamed V8 head at heart - even if they are fast becoming boat anchors - haha.) At least the race car will never be late to the Drags.
  13. Well, I have sold 5 cars this year ( equals my record for sales in one year ) turbo diesel rodeo Honda S2000 EVO VII miss this one R34 GTR Vspec what was I thinking V8 SS Ute no more V8 in shed But times they are achanging & sometimes u have to move on - or u have no choice 'cause u need the shed space. Ba Bow. :aroused:
  14. Nah, thats a medium one - the race turbo will support 1300hp (tho we wont be making that much)The 3 litre will probably start boosting around 6500 (will rev it past 10000) but the streeter should come on around 4-4500. This is still laggy but with an engine built to sustain 9500 rpm will still give a good power band coupled with the close ratio 5 speed dog box.Pfitzner's box is quite streetable compared to the old Trust box & the Holingers, & because it wont need the clutch on changes should keep the RB26 on song & right in the meat of the torque range. Of course it wont be the friendliest car in peak hour traffic, but when there is a gap - look out commuters. While I'm on the single turbo subject, I have a new tow ute in the garage. I have changed over the SS V8 ute to a new XR6 Turbo ute.I've only started running it in, but am very happy with it so far - looks great in Blueprint with GT wheels & brakes.
  15. For those of you saying - yada yada yada, where is the bloody race car????? It is happening - slowly, but surely. The streeter has taken priority ( & why not - how do you guys feel when u cant drive your cars?), but now that is nearly out of the way we can concentrate on the crazy one. And it has gone crazy. The "3 litre Streeter" is no more. It is now a full blown race car. Methanol, 12x1600cc injectors, grout filled block & the hugest turbo you have ever seen are all sitting on the bench waiting to go on. The head can only be described as "off it's face" with custom ferrera valves, 11.6mm cams, +++. The dry sump is a work of art, & the whole engine should be together by next week. The Holinger is waiting for some new parts(just to be on the safe side), & after the holidays Tilbrooks will be going hammer & tongs to get everything ready for the 4,6& rotor Nationals. We won't get time to paint the car, but it will still look OK - so stay tuned.
  16. The Trust twin entry intercooler is being replaced by a new custom single entry bar&plate cooler to suit the 800hp garrett roller bearing turbo.Mick has fabricated a killer manifold to mount it & the huge Sub-zero wastegate. Should make low 400s at the treads on PULP, but with awesome mid range torque. When I'm ready, we will tune it with better fuel for high 400s & then drag race it(just to see what it does as this car has never been raced), but what I am really looking forward to is the raised eyebrows from the two-wheelers up the gorge. I would never contemplate this setup in a RWD skyline, although it does have an HKS torque split controller for those times when massive sideways action is needed!!! Hence the number plates. After selling the R34 earlier this year, I am hanging out to get this car on the road. Looks like I'm getting a good Christmas present this year - & it's wrapped in silver. See ya on the street.
  17. After 7 months of being off the road after the harmonic balancer broke the snout off the crank, my "street" GTR (Dougs old R33 GTR) is nearly back on the road.I only got to drive this car a couple of times before I broke it, so it's great to see it almost ready after such a long time. Despite what 'some' people think, I am on a buget like everyone else, so this project took much longer than expected.Parts & machining also held things up, but Mick, Mark & Tyson at Tilbrooks have done an awesome job to bring on this new build & turn this car into a very different animal then before. When I bought the car from Doug it had twin TD06 turbos, which endowed the car with amazing top end power, but with no boost before 5500rpm & a synchro gearbox, it did not really suit my application of hills driving. With the engine pulled down, we thought about what we really wanted - & thats mid range torque, a generous power band, & a gearbox that would compliment the new engine setup without blowing itself to bits. As the block was already bored & the pistons were showing signs of wear, we decided to start with a new block & crank.O ringed, linehoned, & bored to suit the new wiseco forged pistons, the block was blueprinted, the carillo rods were cracktested & resized, & the crank was knife-edged, nitrided & the whole lot balanced together with the OS triple plate clutchm & new R34 balancer to spin to 10,000rpm.The engine will not be reved that hard, but at least we know it's been done properly. The race car has had a dry sump fabricated for it, so the modified Trust sump from the race engine seemed a natural addition for this engine, along with the HKS step pro cams & valvetrain ( the OS 3 Litre now has HUGE Tomei cams), the 1000cc injectors( race car stepping up to 12 x 1600cc), and the ARC coolant header tanks system( no point on race engine as radiator going in boot) all perfect hand-me-downs from the 'other' R33. With additional head porting, extra compression(9.6:1),full metal gasket kit & meticulous preparation by Tyson & Mick, the engine was assembled together with the existing HKS cam gears, GReddy plenum, 85mm single throttle body, Trust pulleys etc etc.
  18. Thats an excellent time GOT BOOST. Well done. My R34 did a 12.1 @ 115 & thats with 4WD!!! Top effort. Must be fun on the street with normal tyres on!!!
  19. Well they still seem to be holding their prices - I just sold my R34 GTR for $104,000.
  20. Well - It's finally happened. I sold the R34 GTR & the EVO VII last week. Both cars have gone to Sydney. They will both be missed - but at least now I can get the Race car finished & hopefully the street R33 as well.
  21. In over a year of owning the R34, I have only been pulled over once. Just the other day, in the hills, I pulled out on a blind T junction & nearly got cleaned up by a Police Motorbike! He did a u-turn & pulled me over. He let me off with a caution. Hardly even looked at the car! i am always polite & unless i was speeding, usually dont have a problem. touch wood.
  22. ha ha ha ha i'll put some windex
  23. Unique Cars have put the R34 on the cover for $78,000 !!! But inside they quote the correct price of $105,000. You would think they would double check the ads on the cover!!!
  24. btw - todays ferraris are fully sick.... i fair aint into cheesecutters though
  25. hey gtrken, Gtr's wont be there but girlfriends R32 will be drifting so we will see you there. We will have some drinks afterwards and you can check out the collection.
