I just saw Bad Boys 2 - was expecting usual sequel let down, but was totally awesome. Best car chase involving a Maranello Ferrari, some tough muscle cars & the usual semi trailer. This movie was great. I want a maranello - bad.

I'll be sad to see it go too. But thats life - too many good cars out there these days & cant own them all (well not at the same time anyway) Part of the reason it has to go is the upgrades on the R33 Drag car - check out www.tilbrook.com.au for the latest.

My Race R33 has a quad plate OS clutch with an 8 bolt flywheel to suit the OS crank. After 30-40 passes it is still in great condition - but I only use it on the start line. With the Holinger i dont need the clutch on gearchanges & just pull it through with a blip off the throttle to relieve torque from the gear faces. I think it's the street driving & riding the clutch off the lights to get a smooth take off at slow speeds that wears them out. I agree with you - 11's aren't that hard, but when you start making all that extra power with bolt ons the std internal engine will only last so long, then the gearbox will go, then you need better clutch, then you start snapping driveshafts, then you end up putting all the killer driveline stuff in & think - hey, i need more power now & off you go again. Also, in most states, once you run 10's they require cages/harness/fire suits etc.

Yeah, i dont mean to put anyone off doing up their GTR. smart modifications are a great way to get the most out of your GTR - I'm just saying dont go to far.You will end up with a car that has cost you a house & you cant use it regulary anymore. I love GTRs. They are fantastic value & one of the best performance cars available - all i'm saying is do your homework & be wise. If you seriously want to play - talk to the few guys that have already made all the mistakes & learn from our stuff ups. Anyone that is serious about Drag Racing a GTR & has already started on the path of no return should talk to a reputed workshop like Tilbrooks or similar so the money can be spent on the right stuff from the beginning. Trust me - you will save thousands of dollars & months of waiting.

Allright - a thread I can get my teeth into - get ready for essay. First get what you want to end up with in your head. Sydney Kid is right, there is an exponential curve upwards when it comes to 1/4 mile times. A std GTR is sensational value, then you want a bit more. Where do you want to stop - because with Drag Racing there is no end to it - ever. If you want to pull nines - leave your GTR standard & do up an old school Drag car. Whats more important - having a house to live in & a decent standard of living or having a nine second GTR & living in a tent!!! I bought a 13,000km GTR in April 2000, for $70,000! OK, they were dear back then. Since then i have spent over a quarter of a MILLON dollars on it. No shit. We were pioneering & wasted heaps on testing different combinations, but the fact remains that getting a GTR into the tens is expensive. Nines is a whole nother level of badness - trust me - the amout of stuff we have broken would make the average guy cry. The biggest problem is that when you get to tens it is just not enough. My car does not scare me at all. You get the bug - bad. I have pulled 9.45 @ 153mph going sideways on every gearchange & got to the end thinking 2 things - pity i have to slow down now, & man I'd love to get a 9.3. I had dinner with Mario recently & we discussed this exponential curve of climbing expense Vs diminishing value. I was not surprised at all that the amount he has spent on his 8 second GTR equals the value of my Race R33, Street R33, Hills R34, EVO 7, & my SS ute. In the same way my Race R33 = the value of a nice streetable 11 second R33 GTR & a decent house. A lightly modified GTR that will easily pull 11's, handle hills driving with ease, & still be a pleasure to drive around town is definately the best value for money & time invested. Of course we all have to learn from our own experiences, but if I had had someone explain to me how much it would actually cost to get serious times from a GTR 2 years ago, no-one on this forum would have any idea who I was 'cause i'd still have a Std GTR in the shed with a brand new 996 Porsche Turbo sitting beside it. You know why? Because i could actually use the thing for what i really like doing - driving really fast on the street & in the hills without getting defected. There is no turning back now for me - I am commited to improving the R33 & now we are looking to get into the Jap top 10 on street tyres. With the current changes underway we should be there hopefully by Drag Combat this year. Will wait & see how it turns out.

R34 VSPEC GTR On cover of SPEED magazine recently. I have owned this car since June 2002. It has many tasteful modifications. I have one too many GTRs in the shed & regretfully have to sell one of them. Advertised in the next Unique Cars issue. $105,000. Please PM for further details on this awesome car. Possible buyers only please. ( I know no-one that knows this car wants me to sell it) Munro.:uh-huh:

OK, i accept that my R33 wont go on your list 'cause its not a street car anymore( even with a 9.45 on street tyres & street registered at the time!) But i did a 12.1 @ 115mph with 1.8 60' on the 7/7/2002, in my almost stock R34 GTR. On pulp with normal street tyres, & i do drive it regularly in the hills. I think the R34 list should be expanded to include this. I wont be at Jamboree this Sept with the R33 'cause we are still finishing the upgrades, but should be ready for Drag Combat in Sydney. In the meantime my 'other' R33 is still getting upgrades( or downgrades in this case) to make it more streetable with a single turbo & should be running in the mid tens when its finished. GTRs.............. gotta love em. Munro.
-
Yeah - what up!!!!!!!!!!!! I drive my own car. Last best run was 9.45 & 153mph. Engine out at the moment for routine maintenance. Looking at dry sump, 2 rows of injectors, Methanol, no intercooler, & the biggest single turbo you have ever seen. OK - its not a street car anymore so why stuff around. Mark & Mick at Tilbrooks have some pretty wild ideas so keep your eye out for this R33 when we get it ready for the next round of the street tyre battle against Keirs R32. We both have our eyes fixed firmly on the Jap top ten spot which is 9.1 so maybe we will have an Australian GTR in the world top 10 for street tyred GTR soon. GO ROUNDEYE RACING !!! That will open their eyes!!!

I dont think any of you guys have any idea how hard it is to run a mechanical workshop these days. A normal car owner would not be able to comment of this subject with authority & just because I have more than one highly modified car does not give me the authority to comment on would know what these workshops go through to provide a quality service to the average customer looking for the best result at the cheapest price. However - for those of you that didn't know - I have been involved in modified cars for over 13 years. During that time I have run my own business that involved the manufacture, rental, & servicing of Parts Washers that workshops use to clean the parts. From nothing I built a business that grew to over 900 customers. Everything from small one man workshops right up to Holdens, Mitsubishi, RAAF base etc. There are hundreds of proffessional mechanical workshops in South Australia & over the last 13 years I have served a big percentage of them in some way or another. As the ' Solvent Man' (which is pretty well the bottom of the food chain in the mechanical industry) I have seen, experienced, & got to know many good business operators & mechanics over this time & I have had an insight into this trade that very few would have had.I do have the authority to comment on this subject - & after serving over 900 customers in the mechanical trade in SA, I am pissed off that people with very little actual knowledge on the subject & armed with inuendo are making their opinions known without thinking of the concequences for these workshops. Adelaide is a small town. We have numerous good workshops that cater for our choice of high performance Japanese cars.Per capita we have more qualified workshops that actually know what they are talking about about than any other state. Do your homework, make up your own mind. The biggest problem with jap cars is that they do cost money to modify, & you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. If it was cheap to have a 9 second GTR everyone would have one!!! I have dealt with Morpowa, Turbo Tune, & numerous other workshops over the years & I have the highest respect for all of them because I know the crap they have to go through to please everybody. I use Tilbrook Auto & Dyno - & I highly recommend them to anyone serious about their japanese car. Mark Tilbrook & the others that work under him(Mick, Tharren, & Tyson) are top guys & deserve respect for what they do. Give all these workshops a break - they are all trying their best, & we are lucky to have so many competent places to take our cars. Bitchin session over. See you all on the street.

loolies I love loolies. Better take the wing off the evo b4 I go then!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & pull off the stickers & neon lights & dual N02 bottles connected to the bumper bar!!!

One of the best ones is the BMW driver training course. They do it here now & again, but the main one is interstate.I will be doing the full 3 day course after I get the M3. You get to drift around in M3s & other beemers & all sorts off people take these courses - not just BMW owners. It is not cheap though. Remember, doing a course yourself does not stop some other pinhead crashing into you. Which reminds me there is a big cruise supposedly on tonight meeting at 8.30pm at Goodwood Rd & crossroads cnr car park. Will be a mix of V8s rotors 4s 6s etc.

GTR vs EVO vs STi in Speed mag... that u Munro?
Munro replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yeah, its a bit of a dilema for me.I had it for a year & totally enjoyed driving it everywhere. If I do sell it, it would be great if it stayed in Adelaide - but will have to wait & see. -
I did want to push the envelope as far as I could as far as having a 9 second "street car" & part of that was running the plates on it at the drags - but as far as driving the car regularly on the street, we all know that a car like that is not legal or streetable. I am dissappointed that the car cannot be registered again, but who was I kidding. the reason I posted what I did was because I do not intend to have the same problem with any other cars in the future so I will have to be careful. I do think that cars should be safe on the street.Just because I think an 800hp GTR with uprated suspension& brakes to match is "safe" for me to drive on the street, does not mean that someone else can do the same thing & not kill someone. So where does the Transport Authority draw the line? They have to allow for the minimum skill level & unfortunately that means that high powered cars are out. I do think that guys doing the right thing & taking cars out to the drags, rather than racing on the street, & then being singled out for defects is pretty poor - it encourages us to run amuk elsewhere for fear of being nabbed for doing the right thing. Hmmm. what pissed me off is that we are targeted when it's young guys in VN commodores & such, with no driving ability whatsoever, who kill themselves & others - then the media screams about modified cars being the problem. Compulsary driver training, different levels of track experience, collision avoidance courses should all be part of having a licence. Top level being - licence to have a sick car 'cause you've proved you can handle it. this will never happen, so we are stuck with the current system. there is nothing we can do about it - if we want to speed we have to move to NT or Germany! Or go to the track - WITHOUT being penilised later.

Guy Bowden took 700 photos over 2 days for that article!!! It's amazing how much work it all is, but it's good fun. My SS ute is a good all rounder, but I do like the pursuit ute in blueprint - biggest flaw for me is the poxy cheap interior door handles - what a let down on an otherwise excellent vehicle. The SS does have 235rwkw which is over 300kw at the flywheel anyway. Not getting the CSL, just a regular SMG II in Estoril Blue. They are very comfortable & handle extremely well, & sometimes I get sick of stiff suspension & hard seats & just want a little class. I hope you all enjoy the magazine article, I must say it's great to walk into a newsagent & see your own cars on the cover of such a good magazine. Keep Boosting, Later. -
A cruise & an 8 ball comp. could be a goer.See what happens. On another topic, I received a letter today from Regency about my race R33.It seems they have been reading the '3 litre streeter' articles in HPI & were slightly(!) concerned about the legality of the aforementioned vehicle!!! Read - they think I'm mad! And would like the pleasure of inspecting the vehicle to determine it's roadworthiness - yeah sure - they just want to go for a ride!!!! Unfortunately, due to this, I will not be doing any further articles on the street cars from now on. Speed wants to feature the race car which is fine 'cause it's never going to be registered again, but it is a shame that people cannot feature modified cars with out legal issues rearing their ugly head.

I used to service parts washing machines at mechanical workshops for 13 years.Filthy job, but got to know most workshops in town & helped to pay for my car addiction. Also had a caravan business for a few years which I did very well in.I am currently getting into a new business which I am not at liberty to discuss at the moment. As far as all the magazine articles go - well Martin is a mate of mine & I'm always happy to help him out with articles. BUT, from now on I will not be that keen to have any of my cars featured due to the letter I just received from Transport SA about my Race R33. They know all about the mods done & will not register the car without an inspection. In other words, that car will never be registered again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Speed wants to feature the race car later in the year - thats fine 'cause the damage is done, but my street cars wont be featured again & I will not be posting details on them in the future. It is a shame - but whats a revhead supposed to do????? -

Consider $100,000. It has over $20,000 of extras on it & has never been damaged. Not intending on selling it ATM but will see what happens later. Problem is it looks so good with the GT4 Nismo rims on it I would never hear the end of it from my friends if i did sell it. -

Well mr usuckpoo, the R34 is driven the most, mainly up in the hills. The race car is obviouly driven rarely now & has run out of rego. The new R33 is still undergoing a rebuild, but when ready will be driven often - eventually making the R34 an occasional driver. 3 GTRs is not very practical so may sell the 34 one day as the 2 R33 are too hard to sell. I actually prefer the shape of the R33s to the R34, but the 34 does have a better interior. -

Actually it is a $ issue cause I am not really working at the moment.I am between small businesses & when you order an M3 it takes 12 months to arrive & was not expecting to have so many cars a year later. The "6" cars thing is not quite correct as the M3 is only arriving in the next couple of weeks. My other car that was not listed is a Tiger SS 6speed GenIII ute.I use it for towing the race car & slinging wheels & parts around - very handy for circle work too! -

Yep.You can spend days sideways in a new M3.Thats why mines coming with the 18s & not the optional 19s. The R34 does make good power with only a Power FC & nismo exhaust & front pipe. The std turbos are making 1.2 bar & it pulls quite well from 3000-7500rpm. Pity it weighs 1650kg! I am hoping to sell the EVO, but if not I may have to let the R34 go to make way for the BMW.Love to keep all of them, but thats life in the fast lane. -

I think there will only be 1 9 second GTR on Sat as my car is not ready to race.It is still not the best timing as I would like to go to both as well. -
Martin wrote a good article on the EVO Vs STI in the latest HPI.
