  1. Well after the latest run of 9.45, we are pulling the engine out to check everything over.I am pleased that this is happening for maintainence! & not cause something is broken. When it goes back together it will have a complete new turbo/induction setup. New custom plenum, throttle body, intercooler, manifold, wastegate, & a T51R BB single turbo. We are also looking at the flatshifter motec option & putting in a 5 bar map sensor as we are hitting boost cut on the 3 bar one.Hopefully will have it all ready for the 31st May T&T session with close to 600kw(800hp) at the wheels. Keir has a huge pair of T67s (TD06-25g) on his car now & the biggest intercooler I have ever seen! Gloves are off now - we are going after the Jap top ten on radials.should be fun.
  2. Ah, I couldn't help myself. I traded my S2000 on Doug Dinans Silver R33(the one in the 1st Speed issue) so thats my "street 33" Going for a single 3540 so will boost up quicker & still have good top end power. With the dog box in it, it will be interesting to see what time it pulls in full weight street trim.I would expect mid 10s, so could possibly have 2 GTRs in the aust top ten!this car has full Motec/CDI/datalogging as well so can use my laptop to tune/log both R33s.We will be tuning it to last & not for outright power, & I intend to use it regularly on the street. The R34 is basically stock & I want to leave it that way - it's a great hills car as it is. As far as the race car goes we are looking at a T51R SPL BB.I would prefer to stay with big twins, but for 1/4 work only we feel that this is the best option at the moment. We are allready nearing the limits of the Nittos, but Keir & I would like to get into the Jap top ten list on radials which means a 9.1 or better. It is probably inevitable that when we both are ready, the big brakes will come off & the slicks will go on.When we get to that stage we will be chasing Reece & Mario, but I cant see that happening in the near future. At the moment we are focused on our street tyre battle & outright honours is not really a concern. Reece is allready in the Jap Pro top ten, & when Marios car is ready he will be much faster than our cars.Maybe a shootout for line honours at Drag combat at the end of the year! PS- sorry about hijacking this thread grepin.
  3. I am not that clued up on exactly how transfer cases work, but I know how they act when given a hard time! I dont believe R33s or R34 have full time drive to the front - my R34 goes sideways all the time & takes a second or 2 to right itself. The R34 does have more front bias than the R33or32, but the attessa still needs to detect rear wheel loss of traction before it will transfer the torque. You can not just pull a fuse to cut front drive in a 33 or 34.When you see them on a dyno they have had the front driveshafts removed. Even cars with HKS ETCs in them have front driveshafts removed for safety. When we dyno the race car we don't remove them 'cause it has a hydraulic controller & cannot engage FWD without the lever down(we do cable tie it for safety). Sometimes the ETCs mess up the brain in the hicas & cause the rear to start steering the car under power - very unsettling for passengers - I have just fitted a Hicas lock to my street R33 due to this happening! I think the transfer case dies at willowbank because they are not designed to transfer 100% drive through to the front - usually only 40-50%, but I am not an expert on this so I could be wrong. As far as trying to make others look slow - that is not my intention, I just love going fast & was not smart enough to be a jet pilot, so this is the next best thing. And to be able to do it in cars that look & handle as good as Skylines, well lets just say I'm a big fan of them.
  4. What rumour might that be? Oh, you mean the comment by Martin at the end of the article in the 3rd GTR issue. Wont fit, but anyway I love changing gears. My Race R33 has a sequential Holinger 6 speed & if I short change I cross the line in 6th gear.Great fun. My Street R33 has a close ratio 5 speed, but I am fitting the Trust 6 speed dog box as no-one wants to buy it! I would prefer not to run it as this car will be a daily driver & the Trust dogs are pretty hard core, but the normal box will not last me 2 weeks & as it's H pattern it's better than a Holinger for the street. The R34 has the standard getrag 6 speed with a twin plate clutch. The EVO7 runs a 5 speed, & the SS ute is a 6 speed too. autos certainly have there uses, but not in my garage!
  5. I have pulled the TD06s off Dougs old GTR & Mick at Tilbrooks has them + other gear. Not sure what plans he has for them, but give him a call as they have lots of good gear floating around at the moment. BTW - you reckon 1x T67 might be too big!!!! You should see the 2 new T67s hanging off Keirs GTR now- cool. I am going the other way. The 2835Rs are now sold & we have a huge single turb coming for the 3 litre. Lag city - but doesn't matter when our engines never see less than 7000rpm!
  6. I've got Bilsteins in my R34 & my R33. Awesome providing they are valved correctly for your application & the car is cornerweighted & set up well.
  7. Thats not boring at all nighty! very good result & worth all the effort & waiting around. 13.3 is pretty good when you consider that I ran 13.1 in Big Paul's black R34 GTR @ 106mph (car worth $100,000+) & 13.4 @ 105 in EVO 7 (car worth $80,000+) also both these cars are 4WD so have traction advantage. Only a couple of tenths/mph behind them - I'd say you are onto a good thing.Keep up the good work. C'mon MattR - where are you - tell the good people what up with your new car. Whatsisname, it's an R33 rb25det in an R32 GTSt. AND, yesterday it pulled a **.** @ *** mph.
  8. I dragged a completely stock R34 GTR yesterday at the street drags & did a 13.1 @ 106mph with a slipping clutch. Also did 1 run in the EVO 7 - 13.4 @ 105mph, has exhaust & computer but std boost.
  9. GTR close ratio gearbox (Route 66 new gearset) with new bearings & seals, complete with transfer case. $5000 Trust 6 speed box, completely rebuilt inc transfer case, Trust shifter, clutch centre, & bell housing shield if required(ANDRA) this is a dog engagement close ratio box suitable for Drag racing & Hard street use. $10,000 May trade in good std gearbox. Both are complete & ready to go(Not in use at moment) reasonable offers considered. Will suit 32/33/34 GTRs. PM for further details. Munro.
  10. Check out the next issue of Speed - has a good article comparing a GTR & a STI.
  11. Yep- It's TV2. It's a 3 stage pearl but can be reproduced in 2pak for a 1 stage application. Can be hard to paint so dont use it if your worried about repairing scratches etc down the track. Is an awesome colour though.
  12. It's fast - damn fast.Needs a good wash though!!!
  13. Thats 'cause we're always at the Drags trashing our cars. Was a fun day today - I did one run in the EVO - 13.4 @ 105mph. Not too bad for a stocky.I also took big Paul's black R34 GTR for a burn & managed a clutch slipping 13.1 @ 106. Also not bad for a total stocky. He's getting a new intercooler at Tilbrooks tomorrow so I think he'll be back for more.I missed Matts new car run but I heard it ran a 1*.** @ *** mph - very impressive.I'll do the same as Pauley & let Matt tell everyone himself. See you on the street. Laters.
  14. Fantastic project Fatz!!! Should be a real goer!anything you need just let me know. I think that a low budget race car project like this would be great fun to follow - might even surprise some people with there shiny cars.Keep us all posted. BTW - my brother has numerous dead corollas & datsuns in our back paddock thrash track & would be happy to donate diffs etc for spares!
  15. The best thing Holdens are for is towing GTRs to the racetrack.
  16. No worries mate, I will do a huge burnout out the front as a decoy so they let you go & try & catch me -- haha.Good luck if I'm in the race car!!! Seriously though it's a joke.there was probably at least 2 cars that went by while you were on the side of the road with excessive smoke/rust etc but they want to hassle you with your extremly well maintained & good looking car. I went for a cruise with Nate in the EVO & was unintentionally involved with a whole group of very naughty blow off valve equipped jap cars who liked to hear lots of psshhtt sounds all the way down West tce & beyond. We were of course very well behaved(not) & proceeded to race most of the way to Semaphore.Of course the well behaved drivers at the front got pulled over on the esplanade & had to explain to the nice policemen that it wasn't our fault our cars were so fast & we would join AA(Accelerators Anonymous) first thing in the morning, & promised to keep any phhfft noises to a bare minimum in the future( in other words within 100m of taking off) & would obey all reasonable road traffic laws to the best of our ability. I would also like to add that as designated driver Nate did a fantastic job of handing out a big can of whoop-ass to a couple of WRXs & other assorted machines that dared to pull up next to him & was very polite to the coppers who were impressed with the car & let us go with a smile & a wave.Murphys law - if I was driving he probably would have had to bail me out the next morning - but then again - you needn't take a gun to a knife fight!
  17. Whats this!!!? Couldn't put up with all that fast food heh? Stick to the Herbs baby. You know you want too. BTW - I am mourning the loss of my new R33 street car.the oil pump is busted & the engine is out again!!! Oh well, might get to cruise in it one day - in the meantime the race car is a priority so will have to concentrate on that in order to get to the 31st May meeting & try & get the title back from Keir. See everyone at the Drags on Sunday - might just be watching for a change!
  18. Cool. That will be good Brett. I'll get back to you on the turbos Mario. Yes - the 4 fastest Skylines in Australia on the same track will be great.
  19. It was a private test & tune day for about 20 cars. Was very relaxed & gave everyone involved plenty of time to experiment with setups etc.No lining up - just go when you are ready. Will skip the next street drags as there are too many people, but will be at the 31st T&T day. the safety guys dont like cameras in the cars for safety reasons, but I'd be more than happy to see some video of the car taken as we are usually too busy to do it. The R33 will be off the road for a while after the 31st meeting for some maintenence so if you are not racing, come with someone who is & checkout some good burnouts.
  20. 1.24!!! I wish.(BTW-what sort of bike/altered did you dothatwith?) Pete, I think that slicks will be inevitable in the long run, but Keir & I both want to push the envelope as far as we can with our current setups. We are both hanging on to the idea that they are both sort of "street cars" still(even though their not really anymore) & taking off the big brakes, running 15" rims with slicks,& fitting our parachutes to them will be the final nail in the coffin. From then on we are running against the big boys like Mario,Reece & all the Japanese workshops.Would like to wear out at least 1 set of nittos before then & judging from the size of the smoke clouds the R33 was generating yesterday I'd say I'm well on my way! Cheers.
  21. Yep.Nitto 555Rs. There is a 2835R car in the top ten, but most use 3240s. Keir is upgrading to T67s & I am looking at a few different options at the moment.I am sure I will race the car interstate at some stage(I took it to Drag Combat last may)but want to wait till the car is fully sorted first.
  22. No, did 8 runs & took it home.Didn't even have to change the plugs & did it on 1 tank of fuel. Was a great day.
  23. Today at AIR I beat my 9.50 record with a 9.49 then a 9.45. But then Keir came back with an awesome run - 9.38 @ 153mph. Have to hand it to him - his car is amazing.I saw one of his runs from the far end of the track, & the sight of a 9 second GTR coming towards me at full song was just brilliant. The fact that we can both get out there & race so close makes it so much fun. These cars are great fun to drive - it's a shame that I didn't get any video 'cause I did some huge burnouts today. the biggest problem we are both having is trying to hook up over 900hp through street tyres - they are definately a handicap. The sort of mph we are running (consistently over 150) should be good for high 8s in a conventional race car, so if we can work out how to get our 60' times down into the 1.3s we will be flying. My best 60' so far is 1.46 - so there is plenty of development still to do. The fantastic thing about high powered GTRs is their ability to make up for slow 60's with massive top end grunt. To get into the top ten on street tyres in Japan takes a 9.1 & the fastest is 8.6!!!Man that's flying on radial tyres! The top ten on slicks starts at 8.6 & goes down to 7.6 (HKS R33 GTR - fastest 4WD car in world) Long way to go for woundeye wacing - but we are getting there slowly but surely -( 9.1 that is.)
  24. Just cars quoted me $12,500 pa + $20,500 excess & would only insure it for 80% of what it's worth!!! I dont think I'll be insuring my R34 GTR through them. After 9 years at that premium I could have bought another one as a spare - who are they kidding???
  25. Steve's N1 is at Tilbrooks getting front end fixed this week. Unfortunately he had a brake problem & hit a guard rail on the hill climb.I hope they can get it fixed in time for Targa Tasmania in a few weeks.I'll be barracking for him.Any one with spare front end parts let Mark know.
