Bridgestone RE540s are excellent for track days. they are a bit noisy though.

Cruise first, then drink later! All pubs are shut today anyway! I think the fuzz will be more focused on the country areas tonight. Besides, we could all try to behave ourselves & obey the road laws for once!!! Is this cruise just for us skyliners or are other scooters coming?

It would be interesting to get to the bottom of this.I know lots of people confused over the HKS/Garrett argument. I do know that the HKS turbos are designed to be more efficient at high boost pressures, but ultimately what we really need is back to back dyno comparisons for each main type - easier said than done - but would make a very interesting read & clear up the confusion. I have used HKS 2540 & HKS 2835R turbos, & found them to be excellent, but dont think there are equivelent Garretts to test against. The 3040 test would be good - anyone got a spare one?

My GTR blows huges flames out the exhaust on some gear changes & does not have anything fitted to make it do it, maybe it's just the tuning. The R33 does it on the start line every time, & on gear changes. It is usually just a qick flash not a continuous blast.Does look good at night thoughon the track.

Here is a reasonable suggestion - stop doing burnouts up King William street at midnight - you might wear the tyres out HaHa, nice effort. Your car looks great cruising past.

GT autosound did a great job for me on my EVO.

Any good speed shop should sell them.Hurst, A1, & a number of other US brands make them. they are just a solenoid. It's best to put it in the rear brake line & activate it before you put your foot on the brake. when you start the burnout you can use the brakes to control the burnout without wearing out the rear pads. Some people put them in the front line & lock the front on (activate after foot on pedal than release pedal) but thats only good for static burnouts. Can be switched by push button, but I prefer a toggle switch - just make sure you turn it off before the run so you have all brakes working for the run(easy to forget) Have fun.

r u checking your PMs? I would like to see the rims. -
32godzilla - was that you I ran against in the bracket when I did the 9.50? Was sitting on the start line waiting, waiting for my green light & loved reeling in another set of stovetop lights. Was looking at the datalogging tonight & even though the trap speed was 153mph(245km) I didnt back off till at least 265 in 6th gear well after the line!!! After reading Martins comment on page 93 of HPI.29 I couldn't believe it when a "$50,000 torana" lined up next to me on the next run.Even though the GTR was all over the place I couldn't back off & let him go, so I fought the steering in every gear & took him at the line.I'm not sure if there was more than a metre between our door handles over the line & I know which car would be more fun to drive.

My plans are to do some really big burnouts & keep pulling 9's. Prank, I have heaps of photos of all 3 GTRs, but need to organise a site to post them up. I'm looking into it soon.

Thanks, I'm happy to hold the record for a while - until Mario runs his GTR on Nittos that is.If he does it will certainly raise the bar(no pun intended!) Keir also has a pair of T67s on the way & records are there to be broken so will be interesting to see what happens over the coming months. In the meantime, my R33 runs out of rego soon so will be doing a bit of cruising - took it for a burn today to a local car park to take some photos with the other GTRs - not looking forward to standing next to a copper with the bonnet up, but if it happens it happens. Not having mirrors is a bit of a pain. If they were behind me I wouldn't see them & I definately wouldn't hear them! But then again - with over 700hp at the wheels I don't think anyone would be behind me for long (other than Keir of course) Bring it on Kabab - long drive to Sydney though. Maybe at Drag Combat.

The R33 went well on Sat night & ran it's best time of 9.508 @ 153.03 mph on a 1.66 60' time. I would like to thank Mark, Mick,& Tyson from Tilbrooks, Darren & David from Adelaide Engine Developments, Martin Donnon, & Nate Stevens for all their help & support. Good on you guys - a new Australian record on street tyres - even if it was only by .002 of a second! Looks like I will hang on to the 2835R turbos a bit longer & see what we can do with them.

RPM Performance Centre private AIR drag day - Sat' 31st May
Munro replied to whatsisname's topic in South Australia
Both Willowbank in QLD & Kwinana in WA have wed night test & tunes & sat night street drags every week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are we ripped off here or what - it is a bloody joke. No wonder there is so much speeding on the street in SA. BTW- I put the works wheels of the R34 on the silver R33 today(Dougs old car) & the Nismo LMs on the R34. They both look sweeet. Will have to set up a site to host some photos soon. -
1.66 60' (down 2/10 on my best of 1.46!) Last best time was 9.66 @ 148.95 on the 1.46 60' Now best is 9.508 @ 153.03 which just took the Aust title Keir's record was 9.510 @ 152 on a 1.50 60' Loved running that V8 Torana down on the last run, was all over the track & nearly crossed the centre line in 5th & hit him! If I had backed off he would have beat me, so I kept on it,fought the steering wheel & got him by a bumper bar over the line.He had at least a car length on me with 50m to go & would have been suprised that I caught him! 9.849 @ 138.63 On the 153 mph run I was in 6th gear & kept it buried well past the speed traps - & it pulled up well(who says I need a parachute)

How do you guys afford such nice cars?!
Munro replied to Jaxe's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Blood, Sweat, & Tears. Sacrifice, Save, & Wait. thats what I did. Never Borrow money on a car. Use your Home loan & pay it off completly before doing any major modifications. Very very hard to wait - but much better in the long run. I put up with not having a good car for 4 years. It's so hard in early 20's, but if you can hang in there, you will be a very fast 30 year old. -
RPM Performance Centre private AIR drag day - Sat' 31st May
Munro replied to whatsisname's topic in South Australia
There is no way passengers are allowed.Reason-Insurance. The street is for passengers - & you dont have to stop accelerating after 400m either! I'll probably come if date works for me. Good to see so many skylines at the drags tonight - even if I didn't get a chance to say hi to everyone. It appears that there will be monthly Sunday street meets too. these meetings are not usually so busy - I remember mates doing 18 runs at 1 meeting!!!Bring a full tank & get faster as the day goes on!!!Once I did 3 runs back to back with Uturns from the return lane.Better than lining up all night for 2 goes. -
Street Drags at AIR tonight (5/4/03) Ran 9.508 @ 153.03mph 2nd run was a slippery 9.849

The 2835R turbos are probably the limiting factor on the R33 at the moment. They were chosen because on a 3 litre engine with 9.1:1 comp they give strong top end power & also come on boost relatively quickly - making the car very responsive for street use. Now the car has morphed into a race car(is awesome on the street - but who am I kidding - it's no daily driver) the smallish turbos limit the current setup to around 850-900 hp. I would like to fit 3037S & remap the motec to suit which should see the output raised to 1000hp without ringing it's neck - but no-one has put their hand up for the 2835Rs & without selling them I can not upgrade.Larger turbos would increase lag, but on a car that rarely sees less than 7000rpm that would not be an issue.I would like to see the car run a 9.4 as it is - but drag racing is a funny thing. 9.6 might be where it's at, & thats fine. Slicks would definately be faster.Possibly by 4or 5 tenths, but create other problems. For a start, there are 2 classes for GTRs - "street drag GTR" running radial tyres (Nittos) or "Pro GTR" running slicks. It is much more than a simple tyre swap.To run slicks you must run 15" rims, which means removing all the GTR brakes & running smaller non turbo style discs & calipers. Also the suspension has to be totally changed to suit the softer tyres. another problem is that in Australia(under ANDRA rules) a 4WD is not allowed to run non radial tyres all round - so unless it's an outlaw meeting at a non-sanctioned event - it wont comply. The HKS car was exempt at Drag Combat last year as an exhibition car - but they nearly did not let it run as it did not comply with heaps of ANDRA regulations. The shock load through the drivetrain from a 4WD slicks launch can also cause severe breakages. It also means 4 slicks,4 rims, brake changes etc - add that up.Rather than do a bit at a time & slowly get the car into the 9s, I decided to go all out & stretch as far as I could. With the std engine my best was 11.10. Now with new engine my best is 9.66. That's a huge leap in drag racing. With fine tuning & 60' practice we may shave a tenth or two, but the next step into the low 9s could cost anywhere from $20-30,000.00 It's also about the look of the car. As it is it looks like a fairly normal GTR at first glance(I was driving down GJ rd recently & a copper coming the other way didn't even turn to look at it!) With 15" rims, lexan windows all round,no headlights, & covered with stickers I think it spoils the look of a GTR.People can relate to it if if still looks like a street car.Hope the weather is good for Sat night - looking forward to 9500rpm & playing with my Holinger.
-
Heaps of places around.Try Olliers at wingfield or Tully on GJ rd near the obarn track at Holden Hill.

8's!!!!!!.That's like a car running 13's & wanting to break into the 10's!!!! It amazes me how people think that if a car runs 9's then 8's would be easy. It's an exponential curve upwards in cost & development once under 10.99 seconds on the 1/4. I will be quite happy to run another 9.6 on Sat night if all goes well, then possibly the car will be put away for the winter.there may not be any meetings over winter & I am starting to get very busy with work. After all, no work = no cash, no cash = no play. I am very happy with the R33, but have no intention of throwing huge gobs of cash at it just to gain a few tenths of a second. I have seen plenty of guys get their race cars running the best they can with what they have & then running that same time for years(some of these are 11 & 12 second cars). It has to get to a point where you just go out there & have fun with the setup you have.I am not interested in sponsorship & being told where & when to run my car. It's a toy & it should stay that way.Keir will be there on Sat night so should be fun.

Steve Glenney now has a white R33 N1 GTR.It won the rally at the recent Clipsal 500.He was running 2nd outright in his old black GTR before getting a puncture in the Targa last year.

I said 8.30 to Nissan guys so will get there then & wait for everyone else. If no traffic I recommend a few laps up & down the gorge between the green bridges - can take a few new passengers [email protected]
-
oops!!! I thought we were meeting at K-mart Ingle farm, & I've invited a couple of blokes from Main North Nissan to come & have no way of contacting them re changed meeting spot. Can I meet you guys a bit later at Ingle farm? Easier for me too 'cause it's just down the road. How about 9.00pm at Ingle farm? Should give you time to get across town if everyone still meets at anzac Hwy.I'll get there at 8.45pm.

Well I thrashed 6 new Porsches last Thursday on a Porsche drive day & will be doing the same to a 325,330,M3 SMG,X5,7 series, & a couple of Cooper S minis tomorrow on the BMW drive day down to Goolwa airport(run by Alan Moffet & Adelaide Motors). They dont allow weak drivers on these days - so I must be doing something right. While you are all busy working tomorrow spare a thought for me out on the skid pan in all the new BMWs. Brad - bring your torry out on the 5th & I'll show you how soft I am.BTW - when was the last time you actually raced your car?
