It would be good to continue the battle over at Kiwana. Will have to see what happens.2 cars+2 teams+expences=$$$. My main goal is to keep it one piece & have fun racing it. Maybe a few late night blasts around the suburbs looking for V8s! Mark Tilbrook has a few little tweaks planned for the car -stay tuned.

Thanks guys.Yeah, those commentators should learn to get their facts straight! It did feel good to be the fastest - even if it was only for an hour - but whats 1/10 of a second between friends?? 1.69 was my best with Toyo tyres on gtrken - still thinking bout WA trip. Need to thank Mark Tilbrook,Martin Donnon,Darren Palumbo,Nate Stevens,Joe Vozzo,John Dickenson, plus everyone else who helped in preparation & on the day. Also a big thanks to Colin from Advanced Auto Finesse at Gepps Cross for polishing/detailing & storing the car the night before the drags - & Darren at Impressive paint & panel at Greenwith for the constant spoiler resprays & painting the TE37 wheels. Driftspec - thanks for the shade - I was melting in there. 2 GTRs in Adelaide in the nines - be good when there is a third.

Thanks for everyones support. It is great to finally reach my goal - taking my R33 to the drags & leaving in one piece with nothing busted!!! Has been an awesome weekend - here are the results. 10.38am 1.64 60ft 9.947 @ 148.85 12.46pm 1.46 60ft 9.669 @ 144.62 2.35pm 1.73 60ft 10.36 @ 148.83 6.22pm 1.58 60ft 9.890 @ 148.95 9.06pm 1.53 60ft 10.14 @ 145.09 9.36pm 1.52 60ft 9.693 @ 148.88 On Friday it made 540 kw at the wheels.I am very happy with the Holinger & Nittos, and the car felt very strong all day. I did have 2 heads up runs with Keir's R32 but unfortunately he got a bit out of shape on the first one & had to back off.On our 2nd run he lost boost & aborted the run.I did the final run at 9.36pm as a solo which was the last pass of the event. Keir did run a 9.51 @ 150 mph earlier in the day so he is still the reigning street tyre champ - by a small margin. Overall a very well run event & cruise.Would be great to see more than 5or6 Skylines out at the drags next time though.

Alloy wheel repair - need a rim scrape fixed
Munro replied to whatsisname's topic in South Australia
No.The Evo is just for cruising.New HKS exhaust went on today. Will be in the R34, my brother Daniel will be in the Evo (He has a V8 so is excluded from this cruise) & Nate will be in the Honda. We might be going into Melbourne st before 6pm to meet the WA guys & escort them to the cruise. If anyone else is interested in doing this(to make the cruise a bit longer) let me know before lunch tomorrow & will make a time/place. Sat is all about racing & will only have the R33 there. -
OK. the Friday night cruise meets at Ingle Farm Shopping centre on Montague Rd at Ingle Farm at 6.30pm. Montague Rd runs from Pt. Wakefield Rd towards the hills, crosses Main North Rd then Bridge Rd.Centre is on Cnr of Walkleys Rd & Montague Rd. Cruise leaves at 7.30pm sharp.
-
G'day everyone. The Nationals cruise meets at 6.30pm at Ingle farm again. It leaves at 7.30 sharp so will have an hour to check out the cars. Last year it ended up at the drags but not sure this time. I wont be having a late one 'cause racers have to be out there at 8am!There are 135 entered according to Dennis. See u there.

Alloy wheel repair - need a rim scrape fixed
Munro replied to whatsisname's topic in South Australia
Actually it is quite comfortable. The carbon/kevlar seat is spot on, the momo steering wheel feels great, & everything is in easy reach.(except my sunglasses if I leave them on the dash before I do up the harness)The people watching doesn't bother me & with the helmet on you feel 'in the zone'. It's the staging & lights that sometimes mess me up.I try to take my time, relax & just drive the car - but it all happens so fast. The biggest problem in a turbo car is the need to hold the revs high to build up boost. If the starter takes his time starting the tree you are sitting there on full revs for too long.If he is quick & starts the tree as soon as both cars are staged - the revs are not up for long enough & it bogs down.Every racer goes on about reaction times - which are very important when you are actually racing. But when you are just qualifying/practicing it doesn't matter at all.Of course it's hard to ignore the light & just go when you're ready - but that is exactly what I need to do until the car is fully sorted. It's like skydiving,You practice & practice on the ground. You go through all the steps time & time again. You know what you have to do.But when you actually take the leap - your brain goes @#&*^%&*^!!! & it's hard to even remember exactly what happened. I enjoy driving the R33.It gives me a thrill. When I get a good clean run I know that all the hard work & expence will be worth it. This weekend (if both cars are running fine) will be the Australian street tyred GTR battle, & I am the underdog.Anything could happen.I have only pulled a 10.6 so far so any predictions would be unwise - but I would certainly like to pull my first 9 sec 1/4 mile. -
Erica, when we had that drag across Victoria square, you must have come off the clutch pretty hard 'cause the squeal was huge. My window was down so I copped it in the ear. I think it's great that girls are out in Skylines, cant wait to see more of the fairer sex cruising in their own cars. Cowboyb - we left Bunnings Mile End & fanged up to Mt lofty summit, nearly taking out a pack of L plate bikers on the way.We freezed our asses off up there for a while(nearly filled both car parks) then hooned down Greenhill Rd,& up South rd to the Southern Expressway.Didnt see much off anybody on there as I was doing a Vmax run(go the Option video dejavu).Had some wild drags along south rd though. We met up at Moana surf club for a while then headed back following Brute(a wild cruise leader) then down Dyson road doing the usual flybys past law abiding citizens.I nearly rolled my R34 on the big dipper - passenger needed change of undies - & then we settled down for the lap down Brighton Rd to Glenelg. We all split up here.5 of us left cruised down Military rd then up West beach rd where we ran into cheeky near the airport. We went up into the city & proceeded to catch every red light through the centre having 3 wide.2 deep drags all the way. Down Rundle st then hackney & started dropping numbers on the way down NERd.Got home around 1ish. Met heaps of new faces & had a great time.Cant wait for the next one.

Alloy wheel repair - need a rim scrape fixed
Munro replied to whatsisname's topic in South Australia
Working on it.Going to try not using the linelocker. If I'm a split- second late coming off the button when the clutch is out,it's just too much for the driveshafts no matter what they are made of. Without the locker it may roll through the beam & red light, but that doesn't matter when I'm practicing. And thats what I need - practice. You know what it's like on the street just before you have a drag. It's like x50 on the track. No excuse for bad driving though- just have to keep at it. -
Alloy wheel repair - need a rim scrape fixed

Use Extensive Wheel Services over the road from adel wheel & rim they do all of Dannys repairs & just recently fixed one of my TE37s Hmmm, I wonder how they are at fixing driveshafts!!!!! -
Opens at 4pm.Racing starts at 5pm. I hope the Nationals cruise next Fri night is as good as the one we just had. Nismogirl, be good to see your car there. Nightcrawler, posting some pics soon?

Well, that was the best cruise I have been on in ages. Well done Matt (Whatsisname) for organising it.Great turnout, good to see so many GTRs,GTSts, & other imports out for a good time.My R34 got a real flogging- just loved that cool air.Whole cruise was sensational, especially the drags through the centre of the city b4 rundle st on the way home. R33 is all ready to go for street drags tonight,so if all goes well I just might finally break into the nines.Mainly just want to practice & get the car right for the F,S&R Nationals next weekend. Cheeky - my ears are still ringing from that burnout you did on Victoria square. See you all soon.

It all comes down to the rubber. You can adjust driving styles, suspension, etc, but ultimately it's where the rubber meets the road that matters. The technology used in new tyres now gives a good selection of compounds etc for each application. So for drifting & general fun leave some old hard tyres on, but if you want to get serious get a set of big, soft, sticky boots like RE540s or similar.

This week I got my R34 GTR corner weighted & wheel aligned. It weighs 1658 kg.With 2 average to fat people in it thats around 1850 kg or 4000 pounds. That is one heavy car.All the 4WD gear, hicas, bracing etc really adds up.Even with 270 rwkw (360hp) which at a 20% loss through the driveline equates to around 340 kw at flywheel (450hp) it has to work hard to move off the line & pull hard to decent speeds. The 4WD system definately helps to get it off the line but the extra weight is a disadvantage. A GTSt with the same power would need very good tyres & suspension to hook up off the line like the GTR, but once moving would pull away from the GTR due to the 100kg or so less weight. Obviously the GTR would handle better through corners due to attessa system but once again physics comes into it.More weight (or inertia) makes it harder to change directions. The R33 was also corner weighted. It weighs only 1270 kg!(without me in it - add 100kg) This car has over 450rwkw @20psi (600hp) At 30 psi it should make over 500rwkw(670hp) so again, at 20% loss should be roughly 840hp at flywheel.2kg/kw.Hmmm. The R34 has 4.8kg per kw.Same as a ferrari 360 modena.GT2 has 4.2kg/kw.Lamborghini Diablo 4.01kg/kw. A GTSt with 340kw(450hp) at 1500kg = 4.4kg/kw.Looks like pretty good value to me! Of course the weight/power ratio of my R33 is insane, but to get it that light we had to strip all the creature comforts out of it & it has turned into a race car.No mirrors,no gauges,no air, power steering, stereo, etc, etc. The door windows are perspex so I cant wind them down.I do drive it on the street, but it gets pretty hot in there,& I do miss the mirrors! So the point of all this - weight is the enemy.More power is great, but if you cant modify your engine, pull some weight out from somewhere.Just dont go too far or you will end up with a race car like me.

Well, lets make up for it this year by having a burnout comp on the way out there instead!!!! Last year there was hardly any Skylines.Lets show 'em we can get more than a dozen Skylines together in the same place. tonight I went on the SA ute club cruise, & while stopped at a servo waiting for them all to catch up I saw a guy pull in in an R32 GTSt.I went over & invited him on the cruise on the 31st.He had never heard of the Skyline forum but said he had other mates with Skylines & they would come out. Last year the 4&6 cruise had a good turnout at Ingle farm. When I spoke to Dennis from Gemispares the other day he said they wait till late to advertise the cruise details to avoid the rebelious & troublemakers coming.Like that will make any difference - I'm already going.

G,day westerners. The cruise is usually on the Fri night before(7th) & the drags is on Sat(8thfeb) It is at Adelaide International Raceway(AIR) which is about 25km north of the city.Straight out Port Wakefield Rd from Gepps cross intersection. The suburb is Virginia & the drags is on the left before the main Virginia turnoff, you cant miss it. Best place to stay would be in the city, which is only 10 min from airport, then you could get lift or taxi out to the cruise on Fri night. We dont have details for cruise start point yet, but will be north somewhere I presume. Tons of places in the city to stay, check out prices with a travelagent, then you can party on in the city afterwards.

Patientice grasshopper. Its only got 1 seat in it so better bring a milk crate or something to sit on.I've driven it twice on the street now, but with normal street tyres it just skips all over the place. Have just got some thermo fans for it to keep it cool. The new 265/35/18 RE540S tyres are on the R34 now.Got them on thursday & last night on the SMASA cruise I picked up a nail in the FLH & had to limp home from servo to servo.Murphy's law, could have happened to the old yokos last week but no, has to be the brandnew ones!Haven.t had a chance to bed them in properly yet but when they are I think they will be awesome - go gorge rd. Brad, get your tyres sorted out & come on the 4,6&rotor cruise feb 7.It's a tough car.Bring it out & show it off.
-
I've got a boomerang system in the R34.Haven't bothered to find out about all the options yet.It does seem to work well, but I never leave the car anywhere unsecure so it hasn't been set off before(touch wood). The battery does seem to go flat very quickly. The EVO doen't have an alarm or a stereo. Will have to look into that(when I get it that is)

No.It's the yellow one in the article with the white one(HPI 25) Mark Hocking (the guy that bought in that new white R34 N1 GTR for Peter Moore - Wheels Apr 02 cover) bought the EVO7 new in Japan over 12 months ago.He has just brought it in to Aust as a private import & according to him there are only 3 EVO 7s in Aust. It only has 130km on it, has an upgraded CPU(310hp),Carbon fibre bonnet, & a new HKS exhaust system(not fitted yet). I looked at the 'new' EVO 6.5s still in the showroom here in Adelaide, but decided that the 7 looks much better,is stiffer, has an active centre diff,a better dash layout, better torque & is more exclusive(3 7s in Aust vs 100 Aust delivered 6.5s) Of course I cant drop the roof like in the Honda, but it has a much bigger boot & It can take 3 passengers, so for me it will be much more practical considering my other cars are 2 doors or utes.

Yep.S2000s are fun.I have an update model in Blue with black leather. They really do need a turbo though. The mid range torque is just not there, so you really have to drive the car up in the revs all the time on VTEC to get the best out of it.Great car if you are not used to big power, but I have 2 GTRs(one 272rwkw -1650kg & one 500rwkw - 1270kg) so the Honda(while great with the roof down & all) does seem a bit lacking in the grunt dept. I am actually selling the car at the moment(only 2700kms) for around $72,000($80,000 new) & buying a yellow EVO VII.(130km) The EVO doesn't have the class of the Honda to look at, but driving pleasure is what it's all about, & once a turbo man - always a turbo man.The EVO I'm referring to is the actual car in the HPI 25 issue(gold top secret GTR on cover) I will always have fond memories of the Honda S2000 though - anyone looking for a near new one?
-
I agree, if they want an EVO why dont they go & buy a real one (there are still 3 brand new 6.5s at Yorke Mitsi)if not, it's a bit lame trying to make the base model look like the race one. It's a bit different with the GTSt vs GTR thing 'cause a GTSt is a tough car in the first place. The standard lancer is far from tough - it's a front drive, atmo 2litre.What more can I say!

Cool.Round taillights are the go. S'posed to be a SMASA cruise sat night(25th) starting at Bunnings Windsor Gdns at 7.00pm.These cruises are huge. Be good to see some Jap content there as is mainly local street machines. Bit tired tonight, might postpone my R34 cruise till tomorrow night. See if I can scare some 'old school' street machines! Sometimes guys bring out some real tough cars to these cruises so will be interesting. I went to rego dept today & reserved some number plates ; EVO 007. Watch this space!!!!! 31st cruise looks good, will be good to meet some new Skyline owners, hopefully some of you will also come out to the drags the following Sat night for some burnout action. See ya.
