Hey GTR-34A thanks for the link, i just had a good look at this site and its a good read! Do you know why so many R34 GTR's on there would be sold with no mileage readings?

Yes all data was from Australian sites (Carsales / Drive / Gumtree) as when I mention the km's on mine (100,000 km plus for a 1999) I often get strange comments about how high it is ....."because I saw one with XXXX km for sale recently"... I just thought I'd put some actual data behind a suspicion I had that GTR's get more "polish" before arriving than GTT's. But maybe all the comments are wrong and they ALL only get driven on the weekends?

You might also have some leverage if you take a friend in to film the whole discussion? Even a phone would shoot enough to be useful in the future (to backup any claims they may make to get you to stay with them for the follow up car).

I did note that dealers GTR's were all around 50-60,000 km but GTT's at dealers could be 90-120,000 km

Hi there, in the ongoing discussion on the miracles of sea travel as a cure for aging (a slow cruise from Japan to Australia seems to take years worth of driving off), it struck me that there was a big difference between the km's showing on GTT vs GTR cars of the same era. So i did a bit of late night research and captured a sample set of ~ 230 R34 vehicles. Average km's driven by GTT's 1998 to 2002 = 7797km/yr Average km's driven by GTR's 1999 to 2001 = 4672/yr This doesn't seem like a great difference yet for some years there is an average of half the km's advertised for GTR's compared to GTT's. There's also a strange effect that later model vehicles are offered showing higher average km's than earlier models. Published for comments and discussion. It might be old news but it seems that VINs are also being shopped around. The high price was because i would be out of the country with no phone or net access and wanted to hide it from searches. Gumtree has a pause feature but not on carsales, so i tried to bump the price out of the range it had been in before. All fixed now i hope and open to sensible offers.

Cheers thanks It makes me feel better reading the thread about the doctored odometers on some of the cheap dealer cars going around, as thats what many buyers are comparing to (low km fresh off the boat, nicely shined up), but give them their due, dealers do know how to make a car look pretty special. Ive put off selling it since 2007 when i 1st promised my wife i'd sell it, so i'm being patient and hoping it goes to a good home.

Hi that GTR is mine and i wrote the advert late at night, so I'm glad that some people liked it. It doesn't cost anything to swap the words or pictures around, so its the same advert but i just got creative one night to try to make it stand out. As it didn't generate any more inquiries i swapped it back to a traditional advert, but put the creative one on Gumtree (http://goo.gl/TRriqq). The km's are highish (but at least this audience are less likely to be suckered by the princesses arriving off the docks with delivery km's only), but they are nearly all mine and i commuted about 500km a week for 5 years, plus took it from Sydney to Melbourne twice, then onto Adelaide and back another time. I figured that it was my car and i was going to get daily enjoyment from it rather than Nancy it during the week, but cane it on weekends. Yes there are some deep scrapes and scratches on the front bumper, plus others on the body so it wont suit someone wanting it as a show car, but it has been looked after, has lived in a locked garage its whole life, the clock is realistic, it makes some decent kw and is super easy to drive with decent low end torque. Am open to sensible offers made by someone standing in front of it ready to leave a deposit. Getting a bit sick of the sms warriors wanting to swap all sorts of stuff however, hence why the ad on carsales is a bit snippy now.

I spoke at length with wrxhoon and others before deciding that for the mainly commuting and road driving (vs drags or track work), i was better with a single which Jim Berry built for me with uprated pressure plate, and new single mass flywheel. It was obviously cheaper, but was even lighter clutch action and a dream to use on my daily sydney commute. I am really happy, I know wrxhoon is happy with his coppermix, and others will be with theirs, so its probably about application 1st, then decide on the best clutch brand material etc etc. Cheers Ned

When i looked into this with Jim Berry he said that the clutches are the same but the flywheels are different, due to the bolt patterns etc. The stock R34 is a dual mass flywheel also so cant be machined up. Cheers'Ned

What are you wanting to use the power for? Thats going to have a huge bearing on what people will recommend. Is it for the track?, for the strip? for a fast road car? for a relaxed cruiser? ( well maybe not) As they said on top gear on Monday (when the Porsche 911 handed a beating to 2 far more powerful cars), its how you put the power down (and where it is in the curve) that really matters . I would recommend Peter at Road & Race performance in Mary Pde Rydalmere. He is right near the showrooms of Hi Octane and Otomoto. He races an M3 in modified performance, always has race commodores in the shop, & has a 4 wheel alignement rig (needed for 4WS Gtt / R's). I knew I was at the right place when he actually asked me for my driving style and where I drove the car before setting it up. I go back to see him at least 1 per year when the car is tramlining or not as nimble as it should be. ph 968402826 cheers Ned

Hi all, thanks for the messages, they do help believe me. I have used them heaps of times and always believed that they looked after the cars, but a recent experience suggest they may have a few loose cannons. I havent experienced any bumps or scrapes (although a mate did), however I believe they may have moved my car around the park a little enthusiastically resulting in damage. Hi there, Jim tells me he has a variety of materials at his disposal, with organic giving the closest feel to stock, carbotic taking more punishment again, then I guess its carbon or kevlar. Since I commute 45mins each way daily, his recommendation for a clutch that is easily lived with was, strengthened single in organic. cheers Ned

Hi There, I understand that the R33 box also fits (ask wrxhoon who I think needed to do this for compliance), so that may be an oiption as there will be heaps more of those than R34's. Cheers Ned

Thanks for the replies. Jim Berry does sell complete kits, but as you say its from rebuilt hardware and new plates etc. I have taken a punt on one of his strengthened singles (sprung organic) which will clamp to 3000lbs vs 1900 for the stocker. It comes witha new lightened flywheel, and since I couldnt read a bad thing about them, I decided to save the extra G over the OS or Nismo and put it toward other things. Hopefully I am still smiling in 12 months. Cheers Ned

Hi there, the JB was about $1300, the OS Giken from otomoto delivered was ~2500, and I found a Gmax for ~1700, so theres a fair range. The coppermix aren't available locally that i can find, so at the weight and with potentially GSt and duties wfrom Japan, would be around the OS Giken price I guess. Cheers Ned

Hi all, I need a new clutch in a GTR with ~250rwkw (std turbos with PFC, EBC, and poncams) that is driven daily in Sydney traffic. I have the option of a custom built strengthened single (Jim Berry), vs a OS giken twin (~2 x price), vs a Nismo Gmax twin (~1.3 x price). MOstly I am interested in holding the current power with no real plans for turbo upgrades or much beyond current power.I have heard good things about the driveability of the Nismo coppermix, but nothing about Gmax, has anyone use dthe older one? Can anyone comment on the driveability of a Jim Berry single vs the twins for clutch feel, take-up point, driveability, and slip rate? Cheers Thanks Ned

Hi there Sewid, the clutch has ~80k km's so is getting near its useful life. I commute in the car so ease of use is high on the requirememt list, how is the coppermix? I have th eoption of OS giken twin plates, a rebuilt strengthened single, or a Nismo Gmax (not coppermax), which would you take? it might be nice to have the oiption of some high rev launches but mainly its enthusiatsic driving that would be the key with docile city driving most important.
