  1. yeah vic and tas run the same sight unseen issuing of temp permits for up to 42 days... a mate actually got a permit to drive his formula vee on the road a few years ago to run in the engine!
  2. i'll be in launceston!
  3. yeah some of the cars we took to winton still had their targa plates on and we booked them with those numbers, but had permits as they don't have real rego attached and they weren't stress about those cars at all!
  4. these are awesome. classic hair cut from mike raymond!
  5. when we took a heap of targa cars to Winton for the 6hr race back in 2003 we just used temp permits and they were happy, but they got stressed about some of them not having number plates to begin with. i reasoned with them that they were are all tidy well kept cars and they came around.
  6. great minds think alike!
  7. Yeah its still go a ways to go before I'm happy, but nice for sure. Although I think it would go well with the rims I'm not sure if a CF bonnet be look a bit much?
  8. Only a couple of pics from tonight as the battery went flat and I'd had enough in the end... the new BMS R33 that will be used for some R&D and daily transport - for now it has bolt on FMIC kit, Apexi N1 exhaust, K&N pod, R34 GTR rims and a few other things with more under development. My wife is thinking of giving it a run at the Baskerville Hillclimb in Aug, if not her I certainly will as the RX7 is far from finished with the engine still needing to come out...
  9. Picked up a white '97 GTS25t on Monday in Melbourne, got home and spent most of yesterday giving it a good clean (was in pretty dirty condition) needs another polish and to fix a couple of minor body blemishes. Just sorting a few mods and will post some pics.
  10. pm me and i'll give you some detail on what i ran in my gtr and what set up i've put in r32 and r33 gtr for targa tasmania, rally tasmania and rallye burnie. i'm also the technical manager for one of these events so can steer you right on regulations.
  11. for a good cams came allow from $3.5k... people on north west and hobart, but don't know of anyone in launceston.
  12. i should have another skyline by next week, looking to secure a series 2 gts25t from either melbourne or japan if i luck out on the local market. for now though the rx7 cage and interior are painted...
  13. bensonmotorsports supplied the majority of go pro cameras to teams at targa tasmania this year, plenty of gtr footage on youtube.
  14. i've seen that modern metal cats have as much restriction as no cat at all. that said, removing the guts is much cheaper!
  15. phunky - this one is a replica, didn't want to risk a real one due to the production numbers. should be pretty true and correct as mazda motorsport are providing assistance with the build.
  16. The stuff Warwick did was for R32 N1, not 33. I’ve got some docs at the office to assist people building a replica N1, PM me your email and I’ll send to you as PDF... CAMS carry no homologation documents for R33 or R34 N1 as they were only recognised for Japanese domestic competition with JAF (Japanese equivalent CAMS) not the FIA and CAMS have never been able to supply... CAMS haven't become anymore helpful in three years so good luck!
  17. Had to breifly tow the RX7 yesterday and we subbed the radiator support for a tow hook as most of the front end has been removed for the time being and its basically a shell with an engine... the tow strap actually cut right through the radiator support... didn't break the welds, but I now have a two pice support bar! Not sure if its alloy or just really light tin/steel, but that along with heaps of factory alloy components and weigh saving measures like holes drilled into steel plating and use of plastic instead of sheet metal you can really see the two very different ways of making a Japanese performance car - Nissan stuffed the GTR with technology. instead Mazda just threw it out and made it light!
  18. Great to hear everyone had such a good experience, this would be one of the very first years people aren't saying to me 'had a great time, BUT...' There are always things to be fine tuned and improved, which we will do, but clearly we're on the right track to an even better event next year! PS. Bring on the R35 fleet in '09! PPS. Now I've finally got some time to get my own project back on track... still thinking I should have got another Skyline though!
  19. media hype aside weight would be the primary motivation yeah... plus all the top euros have them so keeping up with the jones' maybe

how good does the silver look... very neat.
  21. didn't see times, but pretty sure we had the r35's measure over mt black this year too!
  22. i might have owned the rx7 for a couple of years now, but i've only driven it twice!... but maybe thats typical of a rotary owner! based on my experience with the current generation of carbon ceramic brakes on porsches they have no drama running well from stone cold... five or so years ago they weren't great and i had an exciting experience coming down my drive way in a borrowed car one morning and there was simply no friction point! stuff like that 997 turbo we had during targa this year was magic from the get go though. the only disadvantage in them is the reduced pedal feel they provide, but would be an easy 30kg weight saving on the new GTR.
  23. gees guys... didn't realise we'd become so anal all of a sudden!
