  1. Not a dry sump no. You can modify the standard sump with traps/gates and/or increase it's volume it to reduce surge There has previously been a R32 running in the Demo Class (non-competitve) that more than likely did run one.
  2. I was disappointed you didn't dust it off this year! I just got the RX-7 back from the bodyworks and had forgotten just how high SP wings were... years ahead of their time in shopping trolley design!... but I reckon the SX-R would give it a run Jeff?!
  3. Yeah Timmy's right. You've been able to put 100m guards on MS cars for years. Not 100% sure if the proper Group C guards on RX-7 are within 100mm, but I understand the Commodore Group C guards are slightly more, so to get the right period look for these cars the rule will be expanded to say something like 100m, or those used in regonised championships are acceptable... this will overcome the issue with some other cars currently doing this anyway. You can already run the front bumper and wing under the aero rule.
  4. these things are only as reliable as the prep that goes into them. rush the build or cut corners and stuff will fail... just like any car, but as there's less tolerance with a rotary than any production piston engine, particularly RB20/SR20 as they will live longer while running hot or leaning out for sure, but that’s just a sign of poop prep if you turn up to a serious event with basic problems like that... the performance that’s there to be unlocked with the rotary engines pretty impressive in truth with weight, efficiency and simplicity all being on another level when you compare it to what else was about in say the 70s or 80s... doesn't make me not want to park another GT-R next to my RX-7 again though. phunky - would go close, especially with that wicked brown interior!... maybe not the doors, but I think that’s a '81 Le Mans kit on it. shame the rest of it is such a heap of shit.
  5. Price for TT has actually gone down and the other events can be held at stable pricing... and their arn't insurance levies etc.
  6. The exisisting technical rules still apply.
  7. Gee it's quiet on here...
  8. awesome to hear the racing was good. i haven't been to the track in ages. my plan was to run the rx-7, but time got away from me to get my medical and licence done with too many work committments interstate... that said it would have been a last-minute-motorsport effort to get the car ready! since it did targa and the good twins failed i've started the upgrade to a single turbo... with the costs of fabricating a heap of new gear to suit the new setup i reckon i'll be sitting it out a little longer, but it should be a good reliable car when it's ready.
  9. I'd better go buy GT-R again to try and start looking creditable! Spoke to Lawse the other week about the Z. Will catch up next time I'm in the neighborhood.
  10. Group C kits and guards are a tollerence that used to be in years ago, but was removed, BUT will be now back in to encourage more of the Group C style cars, particually the Commodores and Falcons... the crowds love them obviously and there are a few of each (Commo and Falc) in the build.
  11. Although not truly being a rotary person I can't help but be convinced by their perfromance and so for Classic... a JDM series 3 RX-7 Turbo run under MS with 13B and Group C guards would have to be of the best cost effective answers to the 911 RS'. Cheap to buy, EFI controlled, a great handler even before the cage and chassis prep, and the rules have heaps of tollerence to address all the standard cars sort falls, plus it looks good and those that don't love it will have to suffer the sound!
  12. There was a loop hole this year that saw two S8 run in Cat 7, it will be closed... but don't over think it, realistically there is stuff all difference between S8 and S6/7, particually as a prepared competition car. My S6 had late model RS turbos on it and they let go on Day Four and the guys weren't pushing hard, although the car saw fair road and dyno tuning time, over 250kW (up to 18psi) so they were perhaps at the end of the life cycle by mid event due to what was being asked of them pre. The best FD to still run would be the SP as they had the lowest weight (1218kg), the wing actually works and the bigger openings and in the front bumper and vented bonnet are all very handy for heat reduction, so that or if you didn't want to buy the aero kit and flash airbox and can manage the heat, an RZ as they were the next lightest being the only JDM two seater of the S6 at 1230kg... try and get 10% out of either of those!... in fact the base model is only 1260 and there isn't 126kg to find in one of those within the rules! RX-7 and GTS-t are hard to beat for performance vs investment, but most people would admit that although the RX-7 has better mechanicals like stronger gearbox, diff and a better basic chassis, that the potential problematic engine means the GTS-t is the easier cost containing option.
  13. Yeah a Z-Tune works for Outright Snowy. A few people sound like jumping on the RX-8 SP band-wagon...
  14. No stress Xavier.

  17. The Longford Revival Festival site is coming along well... even after all the rain last week the grounds are good and the Flying Mile nice and clean now... ready for some max speed runs from the racers and exotics both old and new!!
  18. have got my hands dirty before today with a cold mix product we use... very technical approach of filling the hole then rolling the old mazda6 diesel over it a few times!
  19. there's some damage on the east coast... three stages effected. i'm heading up tomorrow to see how we manage them... i've never seen so much road damage for an event. helped peter o'keefe get his r34 off the trailer today as it's finally home. it's come up really well with very nice fabrication and generally looking very sharp... some stunner benson motorsports gear on it too
  20. yep it's all go and it's very cool! i tapped out a summary of it in the eNews that should hit your inbox this arvo.
  21. Didn’t mean to offend Greg, just wanted to clarify that the removal of chicanes did make sense and the change implemented was as a result of research, not a whim. The initial introduction of chicanes was as a method to manage average speed, and it was a tough sell! I remember presenting to the leading factory and privateers at the time at the CAMS Board Room in Melbourne and no one was keen on them, but it was accepted that these were needed to be introduced to meet the requirements of the sanctioning body... times change and it was interesting to see the accepted safety device didn't tick all the boxes. As a byproduct there were savings by not using chicanes, but it's also fair to say that the largest investment in equipment upgrades and training has occurred in the last three years so any savings have been put, plus much much more into the better delivery of the events. I think the dollar per competitive km ratio of any targa event is pretty sharp. The ensure the best deal for competitors there is always open dialogue between the insurers and Octagon… the business continues to be involved with CAMS in various projects, although the AASA association is better known in the tarmac rally world.
  22. You know there isn't a single piece of evidence to suggest that the use of chicanes help increase... well anything actually other than make dangerous locations of perfectly safe pieces of straight road? Chicanes create an object on a road that drivers will and have avoided at all costs, fact. In the final year of chicanes at Targa Tasmania these devices were the direct cause of over $200k of vehicle and property damage, and that was within the first three days alone! Through their removal the safest part of the targa stage, the straightest sections, have once again returned to being the safest. This isn't an opinion, its measured data - incident numbers have gone down on the stages where these amazing devices once were and there has not been a single repeat of a vehicle crashing out at the location or within the area of effect that a chicane once was...
  23. don't forget an fd on e85 in targa spec would give you anywhere from 265-285rwkw (depending how brave you are!) the the bonus of a 1116kg minimum weight... if you could get one that low. the purple 33 'ill work well with your eye shaddow benny... should i dust off the rx-8?
  24. will bring them to the event... by the end of the week you'll no doubt double your money! i'm not suprised on the pricing either in honesty, but i wanted all the logging so happy to cop the expense as all that info will produce savings in the long run. called into symmons plains on the way home yesterday to get inspired by targa class again... roll on basky!
  25. I have a set of R34 brembos with rotors. They've done 33,xxxks and were used on a road car V-Spec II. Offers?
