Holy f&ck! 1:38.102!! Granted the track must have gripped up because a Renault got 1:38.802 but still... Maybe they won't WANT Webber next year??
-
Well Webber certainly had his chances to pass Alonso when Alonso ran wide, what was it, 2 or 3 times? But he just wasn't close enough. All I can say is, at least Alonso didn't win I was sure he was a shoe-in before the race. Almost forgot to mention Schumacher's near-decapitation... just half a metre to the left and...
-
The real tragedy is that we will never know if Seb would have "done the right thing" if he was first, Webs 2nd and Alonso 3rd...
-
Did you see his line out of turn 9 I think it was... he was all 4 wheels on the run off area trying to straightline the corner onto the flat out straight to 10 & 11. Desperate measures, but not enough. The problem with desperate lunges is that it all benefits Alonso. With Mark not winning Alonso can afford to be 4th. And that's assuming those desperate lunges don't dethrone Vettel from 1st. Right now, Alonso is favourite, and if he puts on a fireworks show, Vettel is next in line. Webs is up the creek with half a paddle.
-
Yeah, Webs doesn't deserve WDC on that sort of performance, I'm afraid. Even BUTTON was faster... And you can't blame the car, Vettel put it on pole. I'm afraid Webs choked. It's Alonso's to lose now.
-
Yeah I meant a Ferrari conrod fireworks display Unfortunately for Webs, he's more likely to be tangling with Alonso than Vettel is, based on recent performance... EDIT: Oops I forgot, if SV wins and Alonso is out of the picture, he gets the WDC based on number of wins, not Webber... so yeah, Alonso's engine popping is not good news for Webber either...
-
That's what I mean, even if it was Vettel, Webber and Alonso in that order on the last lap, if Alonso is too close to Webber, Vettel can't slot in between Webber and Alonso, so it would be pointless then to try and give Webs the win.
-
Yeah the problem is he won't make the decision till the last lap, and if Alonso is right up Webber's bum it would be pointless. I just hope nobody gets taken out... just a little *pop* from the Ferrari on lap 3 will do... :D Then Vettel can get the win, and Webber the WDC EDIT: nm that doesn't work
-
I can't see who would take his seat, Kubica is having Renault build their car around him, same with Vettel. Webber maybe? It would be interesting if Webber does go to Ferrari, that way we will have a yardstick to measure Vettel's talent vs Alonso. Though, Massa's probably the kind of teammate Alonso wants, docile and whipped, unlike Hamilton.
-
practice 3: Vettel, Webber, Hamilton, Alonso Commentators said Webber was studying Vettel's car inputs trying to figure out how the fck he's going so fast
-
LOL!! Was that done on purpose??
-
With budgets running to hundreds of millions of dollars, counterfeiting a few stickers and/or bolts would be trivial... Hmm I wonder why "high mileage" Ferrari engines don't seem to blow up... Just saying... ( ok I know they did blow quite a few early on in the season hence their predicament... just stirring some sh&t )
-
He needs to get in front of that Spaniard, let alone the German Hamilton being fastest is actually good for Alonso. I hope Redbull pull something out today. I know, I was just being melodramatic When they say each driver only gets 8 engines for the year, is that just the block? Are they allowed to fully rebuild the engines and replace all internals? If not, what's to stop them doing it anyway, since the FIA can't be monitoring those engines 24x7?
-
It's over! Alonso FTW
-
6 hours to go till first practice! I've never looked forward to an F1 race more than this... 4 possible winners!
-
Wow I just double checked: If Vettel is 1st, Webber is 2nd, Alonso 5th they would be all tied at 256. Vettel would have 5 wins, 2 2nds, 3 3rds and 3 4ths, JUST pipping Alonso with 5 wins, 2 2nds, 3 3rds and 2 4ths.... New scenario: Vettel hands Webber the win, and Alonso crashes out before the flag, meaning that Vettel just gave away his WDC and breaks down in tears and declares Webber will never be his friend again! Oh, and Mr. Shitz just declared that he would rather lose the WDC than to give team orders: http://en.espnf1.com/redbull/motorsport/story/33542.html
-
That's the thing, given that the FIA have made it clear they intend to enforce the "no team orders" rule, and EVEN THOUGH they have acknowledged that the rule will be reviewed, RIGHT NOW the rule still stands. If RBR flaunts that again after the clear precedent, would it be "fair" for FIA to just slap another $100k fine, or would it be "fairer" to deal out a harsher punishment given it's the second time around? That's a huge risk. So the best way for RBR to resolve this is to swap them in a non-overt manner, like during pit stops. But that will not fly with Vettel, I'm sure. The only way I can see him yielding is right on the last lap when it is clear Webber needs to win because Alonso is 3rd. And that's only if Alonso is not right behind Webber. And if Alonso is 5th or worse, Seb will even get the WDC by winning the race, so that's the ultimate incentive not to give up until the last lap. Yes yes, I know Webber has won on his own merit before, but I think it's pretty clear Vettel has the edge on him under normal circumstances, even if it is just by a thousandths of a second. Maybe a younger brain just has its synaptic advantages... Edit: Oooh I just thought of a new scenario.... Vettel is in 1st, Webber in 2nd, Alonso in 3rd, Hamilton in 4th.... On the last lap, Vettel tries to give Webber the win, but because Alonso is too close, they all crash out and Hamilton wins the race and becomes WDC!! LOL!!
-
Won't it be funny if a leading Vettel had "engine troubles" 50m from the finish line until just after Webber passes him... I really can't see Vettel giving up a win to help Webber. But if he does, I wonder how many Vettel slaggers will change their tune about him... Not to mention Webber himself...
-
Are you kidding? Vettel and Webber are mortal enemies and Redbull are backing Vettel all the way. Tin foil hatters could say that Webber was given "engine heat" messages in Brazil so that he couldn't push Vettel. Alonso's form is such that, barring unreliability, he will probably be 3rd again in Abu Dhabi. But with Webber almost destined for 2nd, Alonso really only needs 4th. So Alonso can pretty much coast and save his engine once he has the position he needs. And as we have seen, the Ferrari high mileage engine has done Brazil without a problem, matching the Redbulls in pace. Even if Vettel were magnanimous enough to want to hand Webber a victory, it would be very risky especially if Alonso was close, and we've already seen Ferrari get a slap on the wrist for team orders, another obvious breach of the rules could get Vettel and/or Webber disqualified. Now, given all those risks, if you were Vettel leading the race, would you really contemplate handing the win to Webber? No, Alonso has done what he needed to do in Brazil. The onus is now on Webber to WIN and without Vettel crashing out and allowing Alonso to become 2nd. Whereas Alonso just needs to relax and can get as low as 4th if Webber is 2nd or lower. And let's put it this way, if Alonso can cause a crash of all 3 of them, as long as Hamilton doesn't win the race, Alonso will be WDC. I'm not a particular fan of Webber, but I dislike Alonso more so I'm rooting for Webber. However, I'm afraid Webber tossed the championship away in Korea by scoring no points there. I think he will probably retire next year with all the team politics, so he'll have missed his chance to be a WDC.

If all the cars remain reliable for the final 2 races, Alonso will probably win the WDC. Here is the math: SV: wins both: 256 MW: 2nd in both: 256 (SV ahead on wins) FA: 3rd in both: 261 (still beats MW and SV) FA: 3rd in 1, 4th in 1: 258 (STILL beats MW and SV) LH: wins both: 260 LH: wins 1, 2nd in 1: 253 MW: wins 1, 2nd in another: 263 FA: 2nd in 1, 3rd in another : 264 In other words, if MW doesn't win at least ONE of the races, FA really just has to score 3rd and 4th, provided LH doesn't win both. And EVEN if MW wins 1 and comes 2nd in another, FA just has to score 2nd and 3rd to win. Of course this assumes both FA and MW don't crash/blow up in the race. The only thing realistic thing MW can hope for is FA's last engine to need replacing before the race. But even with a 10 place grid drop, FA could conceivably still score 4th.

Wondering if anyone can help me diagnose my datascan logs. Car is a series 1 R33 GTR, totally stock including air box. Fuel filter has been changed within the last 5000km. Iridium plugs 13000km ago. I'm getting an occassional stumbling on very light throttle. I've logged some data with datascan, enclosed. To view a graph of it, if you don't have datascan, you can pull it into Excel as a CSV file, and graph the relevant points. (File was saved as .txt because forum would not allow .log) I've also enclosed a screenshot of part of the data. In the screenshot, as indicated by the checkboxes, top graph is RPM, AFM1, Speed bottom graph is AFM2, Throttle, Timing As you can see at the vertical line in the graphs, the car is under very light throttle, constant 40kmh and both the AFMs are cycling like crazy, and the A/F ratio is going cycling between lean to rich very quickly. I've already cleaned out both AFMs with electrical contact cleaner. At first I thought one of the AFMs would be having the dry solder problem, but surely not both at once? Is there some other factor which could be causing this cycling? The rest of the AFM parts of the graph look ok, I think? Assuming the AFMs aren't both stuffed (it would be quite a coincidence!), could it be some kind very mild surging happening which is causing the air in the AFM to accelerate and decelerate really quickly, giving those readings? If so, what could be causing the mild surging? Injectors? I know about the AFM repair post, and I'm able to resolder the AFMs, but I'm just not keen on opening and ruining the two nice and original AFM boxes without some better proof that both are misbehaving at the same time! Surely if it was a dry solder problem they would not give the exact same readings at the same time. Just looking for someone with an experienced eye who can share ideas. Let me know if there is any other data that I should log. Add me to the list of satisfied customers of this battery for an R33 GTR. Bought it from wrxhoon a month ago, installed it by turning the post connector sideways and screwing down the neck. Installation took a little longer than expected, had to remove the rear strut tower brace, and the backplate that bolts on the chassis because the battery was JUST too big for the gap (1cm too big). Also needed a $5 7 inch battery bracket from Autobarn. Other than that, it's been working great. Starts up easily after a week of not using it (with alarm draining it). Also wrxhoon was great to deal with, no dramas at all. Thanks wrxhoon!
-
Fatz, it's only a syndrome if the shit is imaginary... I reckon this is real It seems quite a few GTR's have done the big end bearings cause of oil starvation... don't you think?
-
Hey wrxhoon, do you know anything about that tomei sump baffle kit? It sounds like it is just a bolt-in job. Do you normally have to weld the baffles in? Some good side-to-side baffles with the stock sump and stock oil pump should work good, right? On another note, I notice you have an r33 gtr and 01wrx, how do they compare on the track, handling wise? Which do you prefer? Cheers!
-
I was having a look at an R32 GTR manual, and there seems to be a sump baffle already in the sump?? I have an R33 GTR so I would expect the same? Or are those baffles not enough? In any case, is it necessary to go a bigger sump? Unique autosports has a Tomei Sump Baffle Kit for $450 that apparently bolts on, http://www.uniqueautosports.com/pricelists...TR%20engine.htm Would something like that do? A bigger sump would mean a different oil pump too right? Then we gotta figure an oil cooler too.... sheesh... these cars aint cheap to own... I thort GTRs were race-track ready road machines??
