Hey all, I just have a question regarding the 4WD on my R32 GTR, I have searched this topic and read thouroughly over all topics posted regarding this. A couple of weeks ago my alternator put a massive surge of power through my car, frying many electrical components one of these I think could be my 4WD computer. OK so at this stage I am not getting any 4WD, there is no 4WD light on in the car and I have checked the computer for diagnostic error codes, it doesnt have any lights on the 4WD computer, I have also checked all fuses and they seem to be OK. So stating that do you's think that it would most likely be the 4WD computer that is causing my problems, are there any other electrical components that may have been fried? Is there any way of testing that it is definately my 4WD computer without swapping it over as I dont have another to test. I also have a 2WD/4WD switch in the car, if this was fried would it prevent 4WD from working? Would I be best to remove this to be 100% sure? And if it does come down to swapping over the 4WD drive computer is it just a case of unplugging old one and plugging in new one? Thanks alot, Cheers, Mitch.

Im Told Ive Got A Missfire - Vid Inside.
sinstr replied to syx's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Did mechanic regap your sparkplugs? After I installed my new sparkplugs I had all sorts of misses, after making sparkplug gap smaller the missfire was gone. Something to try anyways, GL! -
I also have the black anodised nismo one, no troubles with mine yet... Hopefully it lasts with no wear!!

Hey, Well I have located the parts needed for my car and have finally got my car back from the auto elec after 3 weeks. BUT I am still having a coupla probs, judging by the interest in this thread I doubt I will get any feedback, but its worth a shot. Basically my 4wd (have 2wd/4wd controller installed), Tacho (aftermarket impul full dash unit), clock (no biggie) and 3 gauges still arent working. Hopefully someone can give me some info on where to look to get these problems resolved, particularly 4wd and tacho. I suppose first thing to try would be to remove aftermarket 4wd/2wd controller? How do I go about doing this? Tacho, clock and gauges i dunno where to start but any info is good! Cheers, Mitch.

What You Hate About Your Skyline Thread
sinstr replied to jakez88's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Car: 1989 R32 GTR Hate all the stuffing around it takes to get an import car registered in nsw. Probly mostly the RTAs fault cause they are a pack of people who dont know sh*t (its done now so its ok) Hate the fact that my alternator blew up (surged) and shorted out most of the relays / bulbs and stuff in my car causing a major headache. Other than that I love the powaaa of the rb26 and great handling / drivability of the gtr! -
I was under the impression that gauges where allowed to be mounted anywhere on the dash or pillar as long the highest point of the gauge or bracket doesnt sit higher than the top of your steering wheel.... I was once defected for a gauge on my pillar being to high, mounted it a couple of cms down on the pillar and got passed for blueslip and never got questioned about it again, even after being defected for other things on the car. Thats my understanding, in NSW anyways. In saying that cops can technically defect you for anything not standard (and not engineered) it just depends on the pig...

Have you tried charging the battery in its original position with battery terminals removed? If it is not charging only when its connected up to your terminals my guess would be that there is a problem somewhere with wiring. I am by no means an expert so hopefully someone else here can give you some more info on where to look. Good luck with it mate!

Hey all, Im after a door lock timer (so the auto elec called it) It has something to do with door locks and power windows. It has the numbers '2845189971' on it. It is an 8 pin relay that is located below the right kick panel. If anyone has any ideas where I can get one of these or if there is an alternate relay to use please post up. I am also after but not as urgently, a fan speed resistor located underneath the glovebox. Cheers, Mitch.

Hey, Well the auto elec is on his way to getting my car sorted after finding many f*cked relays from the surge my alternator produced. There are a couple of things I am chasing that I am hoping someone can help me with as the alternator surge fried them too. Im after a door lock timer (so the auto elec called it) It has something to do with door locks and power windows. It has the numbers '2845189971' on it. It is an 8 pin relay that is located below the right kick panel. If anyone has any ideas where I can get one of these or if there is an alternate relay to use please post up. Hey all, I have had what seems to be some pretty serious electrical problems with my R32 GTR after recently purchasing it. OK so problem occured when I was just driving to work normally and my wipers just turned on at abnormally fast speeds without touching the wiper switch. After this I heard some clicking and noises under dash and almost all electrics stopped working. This was my dash, clock, stereo, wipers, all lights, blinkers, power windows etc. The only things I could see still working were electronic boost controller, turbo timer and power fc as car was still driving fine. So I got it to the auto elec straight away and he has told me that the main problem was my alternator and about 10 blown fuses in the engine bay and interior fuse box. After replacing alternator and all blown fuses the auto elec has told me that clicking noises are still coming from below the dash and it is still blowing the power wdw, wiper and heater fan fuses, all others seem to be OK. So I am really hoping someone on here can shed some light on the problem as my car is going on 2 weeks at auto elec (he claims he is a man down). I was also hoping someone could provide me with or a link to a complete wiring diagram with fusebox circuits for a 1989 R32 GTR. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks, Mitch.

agreed, go the gtr and you will be able to make 260kw+ atw and have 4wd with minimal mods

Hey all, Chasing an alternator in good working condition for an RB26. PM me with price if you have one. Cheers, Mitch.

Hey, Recently my car had some electrical issues and the auto elec has told me that my alternator is fried. I will need to source a new / 2nd hand one and am wondering if any alternator off any RB26 motor will be right for the RB26 in my 1989 GTR? If anyone knows of any alternate alternators that are cheaper or can point me in the right direction of getting one please let me know. Cheers, Mitch.
-
Sweet thanks for that, Ill get onto some if the gtr needs a top up. Also regarding my electrical problems. Car is still at auto elec and he has mentioned that for my wipers to turn on a rapid speeds like they did it would most likely be a spike from the alternator. But at the time my wipers werent turned on so some other electrical fault would have had to have cause this right? Does anyone know or have any insight into why first of all my wipers would turn on without touching switch and second as to why they would then go at abnormally fast speeds, after this as mentioned above all the electrics in the car stopped working and it blew a fuse in interior fuse box and 1 in the engine bay fuse box. I am hoping someone with some auto electrics knowledge can lay down what they may think the problem is. Cheers again, Mitch.

Also sent _K1NGTR_ a pm about what the best transmission fluid is to use in boot for 4WD system. Anyone else have any suggestions for this? Cheers, Mitch.
-
Thanks for all replies. I have taken my car to an Auto electrician so hopefully he can sort out those electrical problems out fairly easily. Will keep you informed as to what happens.. I will also check out spark plugs / leads and make sure transmission fluid in boot and make sure it is topped up 100% Thanks again for input, any other suggestions that I can try would be also appreciated.. Will be sure to try any suggestions this weekend. Cheers, Mitch.

Hey, After finally getting my R32 GTR from VIC to NSW rego and back on the road after recently purchasing it, I am now having a few problems with the car. I will list the problems and hopefully someone can shed some light on them. First problem - Car seems to be having slight missing issues when coming onto boost, problem is completely intermittent but seems to occur more after a long trip. Along with this the car seems to have trouble kicking over sometimes, will kick over first time everytime every morning but will usually have the problem after I have driven the car, left it for an hour or so then go to start it again. I was thinking spark plugs / afms need a clean??? Second problem - Cars 4WD light on dash is intermittently coming on, when 4WD light is on car is only running in RWD.. This is completely intermittent (Have 4WD / 2WD controller installed but its always on 4WD setting). Third problem - This only occured on the way to work today, cars windscreen wipers just turned on whilst driving and were moving at a very fast rate (so fast it ripped the rubber off the wiper) then after pulling over I relised my lights, stereo, blinkers, electric windows etc had all died.. Car still seems to run fine just all electrics gone. After checking fuse box 1 fuse was completely blown out (marks in fuse box and was no longer connected when i opened box) It also looked like 1 fuse was blown in the engine bay fuse box aswell. I know its hard to give opinions on what the problem could be on the electrical side of things but could all three problems be related? I am taking it to an auto electrician today but if anyone has any ideas on any of the problems I would appreciate any info given. Cheers, Mitch.
