Does it sound like its coming from behing the airbag? If it does it could be the little motor that moves the flap that switches the climate controll blower between fresh/recirculate. Ours did it and it ended up breaking a bit of the mechanism and the motoer kept turning and clicking against the broken bit. Try playing with the fresh/recirc buttons on the climate controll, that used to make ours stop for a bit. If you take the glove box out, and the plastic cover behond it (from memory) you should be able to see the little motor next to the fresh/recirc flap (flap looks like a big flat white air filter). If this is the problem, a motor out of an r32 fits in, you just have to change the little plastic arm on it for the one off your stagea one. This fixed ours for a few months, untill it started doing it again wich makes me think it has a short in the climate controll unit. Ended up just unplugging the motor. The climate controll is now permenantly on recirculate, but problem solved!
