  1. ^^^ - What he said. Not only this but as a p plater you will be popping the hood for the police/transport/highway patrol more often than you could imagine. Extractors are blatantly obvious as are pod filters and exhaust modifications. If you *must* put money into it a K&N style panel filter is a good option, and a cat back will look good and maybe give you a tiny bit more on the KW side of things. I came to the realisation fairly early on that you can sink serious money into an NA skyline and at the end of it only have a (very) mild increase in power. Save most of your cash until you get off your P's or if you must spend some money spend it on "sex spec" rather than performance spec. Later on if you have a personal attachment to the car or bought it really really cheap, a high comp turbo build isn't out of the question. Or sell for a turbo skyline or similar import. Or there's always the RB25/30 swap that can be done for a reasonable cost. Bottom line is being on your P's is one hell of a restriction for young people now. Hell, I remember driving V8 hot rods while on my P's. Like hell I'd get away with something like that if I was on my P's now...
  2. *PROJECTILE VOMIT!!!* I'm sorry. That happens sometimes, like when I willingly click on a link that takes me to a picture of a Prius.

    Tas Whoretown

Fusk yeah its always rocking off down here. Great for insomniacs like me. You know from reading the threads I notice that there hasn't been a tassie cruise in a while. Any takers?

    Dream Car.

*wanders in* I had one of those for my third car, minus the supercharger. Had quite a nice 308.
  5. I had always thought underseat subs were for female pleasure only...
  6. Let the man do what he wants. I mean its neither a practical rim nor does he want to use it as a practical rim. Autosalon isn't particularly my cup of tea but if that's your thing go for it. Personally I rate it up there with people who build 'street' muscle cars and then tow them around on trailers to events. Kinda disgusts me. And sh!t guys, in the end its his money for his purpose not ours. All he wanted was some info on the price, not for a running commentary on how much of a dick they may make him look.
  7. Well that means you have the misfortune of working with my cousin Luke Damn Tasmania is a small place...
  8. Repaired by my old man and uncle and then taken to the engineer for approval. Actual cost was $138.40. Took four hours from an accredited workshop. No big deal really.
  9. I am just trying to find out anything about the following R33 sedan as advertised on carsales. Just trying to find out if anything is wrong with it, if anyone knows the guy selling it, if anyone knows if it has mechanical problems that he's not telling me if you do know about it, etc. http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/priva...amp;sort_type=3 This car would be for a family member if bought and so I am just trying to check it out as much as possible before I call the dude and organise a trip to Launceston. Cheers
  10. The only thing worse than stolen is destroyed beyond any possible repair. A bloke I know had a genuine HG Monaro 2 door, and stored it in a shipping container on his property while he went to overseas for business. He figured it would be safe in the container as it was bolted up with multiple locks and then tec screwed shut for good measure. Came home after two months holiday to find that his shed and the shipping container parked next to it just about burned to the ground and the fire brigade worked out that it was arson. He had insurance of course but still... Seeing the f*sked wreck and knowing it will never live again would destroy you.
  11. I like any engine that delivers the goods. I don't particularly care if its a Nissan a Holden or a Daihatsu. If a four cylinder with clever valve and cam timing can get me excited and make me want to drive and drive fast then congratulations to the engine designers. Job well done. I recently drove a CRX with a B16C I can honestly say it was a blast. Was it the same as driving a four hundred horsepower V8 hotrod? No. Was it the same as driving a turbocharged skyline? Definitely not. Nor was it comparable to my current NA. Not because the VTEC powered car was good or bad but because comparing these engines is like comparing chalk and cheese. The only bad thing about Honda's VTEC engines are the fanboys. For those who still think the VTEC engines are crap I would also like to do a quick engine efficiency calculation (aka brake mean efficiency pressure): For those that don't know BMEP is a measure of design optimisation by calculating the average cylinder pressure during combustion. The higher the number the more efficient the design. Where BMEP= kW x 1200 / litres x RPM Stock R34 GT N/A 147 kW x 1200 / 2.5 x 6000 = 176400 / 15000 Therefore BMEP = 11.76 bar Stock 2001 Integra Type R 2.0 litre VTEC 147 kW x 1200 / 2.0 x 7400 = 176400 / 14800 Therefore BMEP = 11.91 bar So the R34 has an extra 500cc but it is still not quite as efficient as the Integra's engine. Interesting hey?
  12. Update again. Today the car was almost entirely put back together and taken for a test drive just to make sure. The rear and side glass goes back in tomorrow, it gets structurally checked (again!) Tuesday, Department of Transport checked Wednesday, registered on Thursday and then driven straight back to Hobart. Overall I imagine its going to be a hectic week for me...
  13. I have an NA R33 auto. Black. Really good condition. Totally stock, not a thing has been touched. Genuine 140,000(ish) kilometers all verified. Full service history including all major services (100,00 kilometres). New nolathane bushes. Factory sunroof. It even has the Japenese emergency flare that came with it. Had been in an accident recently but was repaired by an extremely competent mechanical engineer with all reciepts. Pic here: Can get more if you want. I was going to do a turbo conversion but if I can get a decent price for it I wouldn't mind parting with it. Make me an offer.
  14. Spotto'd a white R32 GTR travelling through Northgate. Sounded fusking awesome and looked excellent.
  15. You don't even need to spend 3 grand. In total, with all the parts and stuff I want I have spent a total of $1100. Thats all the bits off a R33 RB25DET (injectors, ecu, dump, manifold, hoses, clamps etc etc) plus an R34 intercooler. Although I have certain bonuses (such as having professionals in the family who will do work for free or at the very most for a beer or two) I believe just about anyone could do this conversion for $1500. This also allows heaps of room for improvement down the track such as a good FMIC, mandrel bent exhaust, thicker head gasket and whatever else. I do believe there is a drift car in brisbane using a RB25de+T with bolt ons, and a thicker head gasket and it makes an easy 390ish HP@RW. Was in High Performance Imports I believe. I doubt that for the price of this conversion I could sell my car and buy a GTS-T.
  16. Item: Alluminium Catch Can Age: Brand new Condition: absolutely brand new, still in box Price: $60 Location: Hobart, Tasmania. Comments: As mentioned its a brand new alloy catch can in red. Calibre brand, still has a 12 month warranty. Normally sells for near $80. Comes with hoses, clamps, nuts, bolts, high quality fittings and a magnetic drain bolt. Sorry in advance about the crappy phone photos can get some more if desperate to have them. Can easily post interstate at buyers expense, will deliver myself or for free just about anywhere in Tasmania. Also can get one in blue or silver. Pm me for details.
  17. I had to get checked for structural integrity when my car was being repaired. Its not a big deal really, cost me $100 and an hour of my time. Brought the car to the engineer along with photos of the repair project, he looked at the chassis and a few other things and signed a piece of paper.
  18. Finally had my injectors and computer arrive. Should be ready in about a month. Its all going to be bolted together at a family members workshop so if I wanted to replace the head gasket it wouldn't be too hard to do. So if I get a chance to replace the head gasket how thick should I go?
  19. Oh and I scored a flare and flare holder. Pretty cool.
  20. I find this rather interesting because when I had a big block powered hot rod that shook violently from side to side while it sat at the lights no one ever tried to race. They stared instead. But with my skyline I have had the lot from lancers to hondas to XR6 turbos to grandmas trying to race me - despite the fact that my skyline is an NA auto... Generally I find that the true performance guys don't try and race other people around town, they choose the track or deserted country roads.
  21. Saw this thing at uni today. Very surprised it hasn't sold. Looks to be in very good condition. Pity because I wanted one of these a few months ago...

    Autobarn

I work with another hated group - Supercheap Auto in between uni and working on cars. I shop there myself because a) I get a discount and b) I order my own parts. After several run ins with Autobarn I refuse to go to them anymore or recommend them to customers. We get all sorts of stories ranging from huge price rip-offs to botched installs to one guy who went to them for a battery for his new SLK only to have it explode under the bonnet, coating everything in acid. The problem is in auto retail is that anyone can front up with a bit of knowledge and try and get a job. So then you have to find out who really knows their stuff, and then the problem then is sorting the shifts so that someone who knows what they are talking about are on all the time. There's only so many people out there who want to work in a place like that as well who actually know their stuff. Down here in Hobart we are pretty lucky, one of our blokes works as a mechanic for Performance Auto (mercs, audi, bmw, alfa), and several others really know their imports. I grew up with V8's, drag cars, hot rods, and imports. The upside though of places like this is that parts are generally cheap, and relatively easy to get a hold of. With regards to your corolla, if its before 1986 parts are getting really hard to get a hold of. Properly hard. I had to tell a bloke that the brake pads for his ET Pulsar were going to take three weeks to rock up, and its not us - its the suppliers scrambling for parts. The retailer cops the blame for the slow turn around. Well that's my rant done.
  23. Well, everything is primered now and waiting for the spray painter. It looks like its all going to take a week longer than I thought. Mildly annoyed about this because the car I'm driving at the moment either needs double the engine capacity it has or a turbo and it seems to be leaking power steering fluid onto the exhaust so that when I stop my vision is filled by blue smoke. Needless to say its not great for taking the girlfriend anywhere. Anyhow, here's some update: Oh and before anyone asks yes I need a new bumper, it has just been patched up a bit for the moment. I have a new one coming from a bloke in Melbourne, cheap as chips too...
  24. For whatever reason it is, everyone is having troubles selling turbo skylines at the moment but it doesn't seem to extend to NA's. One of my mates sold an NA R33 and it was gone a couple of days after it was advertised. He sold it for a higher price than a similar turbo and then bought a turbo'd R33 in immaculate condition. Just be patient, a buyer will come along, I assume your advertising in the trading post, carsales, etc?
  25. When I got my car it had a heap of Chinese coins in the back seat. Twas pretty weird I thought...
