I'm not sure how close you will get but the 350Z NA guys go with: - good extractors ($1500+) - high flow cat ($200) - crossover pipe for the twin exhaust, resonator and functional muffler (probably an extra grand fitted) - tyres (semi slick/super sticky I recommend Bridgestone Adrenalines at about $250 each, $1000 for four, excellent tyre, or if you want to be really awesome go some Mickey Thompson drag radials on about a 16" rim for maximum sidewall. Not sure on the pricing for those.) - shielded intake of some description i.e. pod with an alloy cover or a high flow panel is just as good ($50-$250) All in all it might cost you close to four grand. Best items are tyres first. Run lower than street pressure at the track and throw out any crap that you don't need - spare, tools, sub, and whatever other crap you have kicking around in the boot. Exhaust systems that people have recommended to me are x-force and the stainless ones from unique autosports (can't speak from experience here only others experience). Intake is easy enough - personally I would just go with a panel filter, plenty of cars run 12's with a panel. Thats about all I have experience with mate, and thats through friends not myself so don't take anything as gospel...

Skyline Drivers Losers?
R33_Dude replied to nickandsarah_83's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I can think of plenty of cars off the top of my head. Realistically though as in not exotica and hugely overpriced? Anything that can also do a high 13 second quarter mile. 300zx twin turbo manual. WRX's will give you a run. EVO's are as quick as a GT-R. Late model Galant VR-4 2.5 twin turbos will give you grief. LS(fill in number/letters here) powered commodores will give you a good run if you muck up a launch. A newer/better looked after GT-R than yours. GTi-R Pulsar AWD Turbo, beasty little things they are... Hell even a SR20DE+T pulsar can be made to run high 12's. Most of them run mid 13's - look on the australian pulsar forums. Trust me, to build one of them WILL cost less than a GT-R. MOST (caveat right there) quarter mile runs slower than 11 seconds have little art to it in my opinion its a dollar, number and knowlege game in terms of a performance benchmark. In other words not that great. Tracks and targa roads are where its best to get the whole picture of which car is "better". Its all childish anyhow, you should have your car because either a) you always wanted one and love it to death or b) was somehow forced into it through lack of knowlege, experience, common sense, "wanting to be cool" or a variety of other factors. You shouldn't care if your in category A about the dicks, just laugh em off, and if something is faster (or even slower) its worthy of respect just the same. At the moment I am stuck in category b: not enough points left on licence to drive anything other than a hatchback. The moment that subsides I will be back into something with more cylinders or even no cylinders... -
The only thing I dislike about the SR20 in my pulsar is the tractor noise it makes. nnnnnnnnnn.... It grates on your nerves after a while. Whereas RB's have that really sweet note to them, even stock.

Looking For A Hr31 Or Dr30 Coupe
R33_Dude replied to R33_Dude's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Well I have seen poor examples in the past go for sub 5k. I don't particularly care if the body is poor, or even if the mechanicals or driveline is poor because most likely it will end up all changed anyhow. I imagine it would be a good 10k spent to get one on the road stockish from that kind of state, or I could spend a touch more and build a dream car. Honestly though I could bodge it onto the road on the cheap and engineer any modifications from there with the contacts I have. As I said I'm patient. If something turns up it turns up. Good luck with your project, sounds like it will be a hell of a car when its finished. -
Skyline versus Silvia Ford versus Holden WRX versus Evo Amy Winehouse versus Drugs Miss R34 versus an informed, intelligent opinion Ah the eternal arguments....

I think the price of skylines is vastly over-inflated. R33's in particular. In nine months, like every other car that has come before them they will depreciate. They aren't a classic car. Unless demand increases drastically or supply decreases (aka people all crash them) the prices are just going to get lower. Get used to it. Look at the prices of soarers, HR31/DR30s, and just about any other late eighties, mid nineties period japanese sports car. Prices will only fall. They rarely increase and if they do its just because of increased demand due to some fad - look at what hapenned to SSS pulsars two years ago or so, they were selling for 10k! Ridiculous. Most skylines are going on 15 or even 20 years old. In 2000 would you have paid 10 grand for a 1980 MR30? Skylines have been overpriced for a while, and its only been a matter of time before the market realised it. The next 9 months will be bad in terms of depreciation - in particular for R33 owners.

Essentially I am shopping around for a new car (AGAIN, it appears I can't keep a car for longer than ten minutes sometimes. Unless I end up loving it of course, cause then it ends up in the shed being resprayed.... Nevermind...) and this time after seeing a few different cars in the flesh and driving a DR30 I have started looking for one. Wogboys HR31 is an inspiration I have to say. Found a HR31 however while it looked great on the right hand side, wandering around the other side greeted me with more damage than I thought would be possible without the car being completely structurally destroyed. That said I'm not looking for anything expensive, not neccessarily turbo, essentially not that rare, firstly to bring the price down and secondly because I love swinging spanners on older cars. Thats not to say I wouldn't love a DR30 with an FJ20ET, they sound great. Considering ebay/trading post/carsales has failed me I thought I should post it up here in case either a) I am blind or b) am looking in the wrong spots altogether. If anything comes up shoot me a PM. I am willing to wait in order to find something cheap enough - which you have to do when your on something approaching a budget. Prefer something that drives and is at least capable of having a trade plate strapped to it in order to get it onto the spirit and back to tasmania. Body damage/rust is fine. I can fix that easily enough as long as its not chassis rust - gotta stay legal. In the meantime I will just keep working on some other projects, that XB won't finish itself and if I get bored with that I could start on some '38 ford stuff I suppose... I'm not in a hurry.

What To Do With Old Pistons And Rods?
R33_Dude replied to Keeper's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Not damaged? Give them to me! I'll even pay postage -
ten bucks says that it won't make 500 kW's ATW, if indeed it happens at all.
-
I think that this thread has delivered some amusement for all minus the sexist comments. Seriously guys not neccessary. I will say it: I TOLD YOU SO about the supercharger. That was never going to happen. I did all the maths for it and talked to a couple of engineer friends in the meantime. That sh*t was never gonna happen. In terms of this T51R idea? Well essentially what you will have is an engine with a limited shelf life. 500kW at the wheels = 670HP ATW. 670HP ATW = 670 x 1.2 = around 804 HP at the flywheel Give or take and totally depending on your method. I use a conservative 20% driveline loss (i.e. the driveline is poor).Boost should be developed from 6000rpm+, most likely usable boost by 7000rpm. So you are looking at 800 odd horsepower per 2.5 litres? Thats 320HP per litre... That's fairly extreme by anyones standards. As guilt-toy said (I think it was him) your looking at a grout filled block, extensive (expensive) head work, just about every trick an experienced tuner could throw at the block... Even then I have my reservations that it could pass engineering afterwards. Along with that the entre chassis would need to be strengthened, honestly the more I think about it themore complex it gets. This horsepower level would be far easier to achieve with something from the land of Toyota if I'm honest. I would go a 1UZ-FE with forged internals and twin turbos. That would hit 800 flywheel horsepower with little effort (comparatively). Theres the 2JZ as well. 1.5JZ. All I am trying to do is give non-judgemental advice. Not that you will listen to me, you didn't before, why start now? If you pull this off, as before, congrats. Come on guys, if a 16 year old came on with 2 posts to his name saying that he wanted to do the same things the thread would be locked after the lolling finished. EDIT: And such an engine would be as much use as a 4 foot long d*ck. Great to tell your mates about, but f*ck all practical use.

Skyline Drivers Losers?
R33_Dude replied to nickandsarah_83's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Stock for stock? Not much off the line I'm afraid. (*not condoning street racing at all, I mean at the drag strip*) The modified *real* type-r civics will give you a good run for your money on the twisties though. Just look at the japanese touge racing civics. Very impressive. There are plenty of NA drag civics out there that crack good times as well. I wonder why no-one puts as much effort into N/A SR20DE pulsars? Just a thought... Fords and Holdens? They will reel you in on a quarter mile run if they are V8's or the turbo fords and only if modified. Then again, why take it to the drag strip if its not modified? I suppose curiosity is a reason as is a baseline run. Those LS(x) V8 holdens are quite difficult to catch once modified thats for sure... Honestly though once you start hitting things with the modification stick *anything* is quick. Beside the point though. With regards to d*ckheads, the reason they bother you is that the majority don't so the minority that do really stand out. Its like if you work in any business that requires you to deal directly with customers. Generally you forget the majority as they are happy. Its the minority that piss you off that you remember afterwards. I have run int d*ckhead skyline drivers, falcon drivers, commodore drivers, silvia drivers just about any car you care to name and any brand you care to name. Thing is I've also met a lot of awesome blokes and blokettes who are in the performance scene and you just have to look past the arseholes and realise that there are some awesome people out there. -

How Would You Build A Street Sleeper?
R33_Dude replied to R33_Dude's topic in General Automotive Discussion
As I said I can't stand base model lancers. But you could nearly go the anti-sleeper with this one. Because all lancers have crappy bodykits and stickers for performance kit they don't have if it had them people would assume it didn't so when it did it would be a sleeper. Kinda. Or you could not. -
Not neccessarily, depends on the driver. Have owned many non-power steering cars. Some of them are a pain, but I found the series one RX7 I had to be quite light in steering at slow speeds. All of the above are optional - in Tasmania I don't really care about air con, want air conditioning? Wind down a window. When I move to brisbane my opinion may change Radio can easily be wired up, particularly easily in an older car takes an hour if your handy with a soldering iron, personally I prefer a simple stereo anyway. Electric windows and mirrors and so on are good in a way but when you don't have them you don't care that you don't have them. If it truly bothers the owner anyone can fit a electric window kit quite easily. Have never cared about electric mirrors apart from thinking "Thats handy!" Depends on what you want in a daily. At the moment I want comfort, inconspicousness (my fault that one entirely) and a touch of grunt - hence the turbo pulsar. If you want an old fashioned daily you don't particularly put that much emphasis on modern convenience. Hell, I don't put much emphasis on modern convenience even when I have it. Its a personal thing really if you have to have modern kit you have to have it, if you couldn't care you couldn't care. I'm on the couldn't care side. All this talk of RX-7's and rotaries has made me want to buy another - I'm already flicking through classifieds.

Spotted a nice cefiro in burnie today, dark grey, fmic. Nice tidy lines from a clean 'n' smooth bodykit.

How do you feel about the price of Skylines on the market now compared to the price you paid for your car? I like how they are getting cheaper, I will be able to pick one up easier next time. 79. If money was not an issue, what tuning mods would you make to your car? R32 GTS-4 with Stroker RB20 to 2.2 litres, forged balanced pistons, forged balanced conrods, prepped/stress relieved/balanced crank with oil scrapers, crack tested and acid dipped block, bored out, extended sump, N1 oil pump, ported head, tomei poncams and cam gears, titanium valves and guides, sorted springs etc, 6-boost high mount manifold, unsure on turbo but have it on boost around 3500 rpm through to 7000+, water to air intercooler, oil cooler, trans cooler. Genuine Greddy manifold, or polished RIPS manifold. Matched fuel, computer and ingnition systems. Electronically adjustable coilovers (can't be screwed mucking with it myself prefer to press a button). Perfectly stock exterior with GTR wheels and semi slick road tyres. In gunmetal grey of course. Semi stripped interior (remove everything from the boot, remove all sound deadener but put carpet and normal interior back in). GTR front seats. Minimal stereo. I haven't been thinking about this for a while at all... 80. Would you upgrade the hub assembly of your car? (eg 4 stud to 5 stud) Sure, if I found it neccessary to increase the strength of the drivetrain or braking power by fitting larger brakes, wheels and tyres. 81. Would you upgrade the air-con system in your car? (eg manual to climate control) No. 82. Have you made any parts for your car, or any DIY mods? Nothing apart from small pieces of steel in body repairs. 83. Do you own any spare parts for your car that aren't needed yet? Yes. Many. 84. If it was feasible to own a second car identical to yours, would you? Definitely. 85. How much have you spent on repairs to your car? Many thousands, not sure exactly how much. 86. If you see another Skyline which has been modified differently, do you pick faults in it? No. 87. Have you ever watched Initial D, and do you think your car would have beaten Takumi? Hahaha.... Like an AE86 could beat a GTR down a mountain pass that episode ruined it for me... 88. Would you buy a scale model of your car, and how much would you be willing to spend up to on it? No, I prefer the full size toy. 89. Would you buy a remote control model of your car, and how much would you be willing to spend up to on it? No, I prefer the full size toy. 90. Has your car ever been in a magazine? If so what and which issue? No. Give me some cash and I can mke a magazine car though 91. Have you ever participated in a cruise or attended a meet for Skyline owners? No. 92. Is there any other forum members' car that you idolise or was very impressed by? Quite impressed with a lot of the motorsport guys cars. Thats REAL performance. DIRT's car also looks gooood. 93. Would you do a face swap/upgrade (ie R34 front on R32, C33 front on A31, etc)? Not really, I would do a sileighty/onevia/strawberry face conversion though. 94. What would you consider the locally produced equivalent of your car? Hell, probably the closest would be the XR6 turbo, despite the bagging out they receive the new holden V8 range are pretty spritely too and so easily modified. 95. You are offered to pick straws, one straw will get you free mods of your choice and track time to test them, the other will see your car returned to factory standard. Would you pick straws? Sure, cause most likely the car is factory standard anyhow. 96. You are to attend a track day, however your car gets damaged, and have the following choices: - run the same model as your car, but with a fully tuned RB20E engine. The car has done 150,000kms, and the engine has done 50,000kms. - run the same model as your car, but with a RB20DET auto. The car has done 500,000kms, and the turbo has done 60,000kms. - run your damaged car What would you do? Run the damaged car. If its body damage who cares? If its engine damage its an excuse at the end of the day to rebuild the engine. 97. If you were to grade yourself as an expert on Skylines, what would you be out of 100? Not that high. About 40/45 - I know my stuff but I refuse to comment in the tech sections for fear of looking like an idiot. Can repair about anything that goes wrong - from body damage to engine problems. I suck at electronics and tuning. 98. What is the purpose your car serves in your life? Mostly a daily. Skyline (when I buy another) will probably be a weekender. 99. One word that describes Skyline owners in the country and the rest of the world? Pass... 100. Other than "that was long and tiring" do you have any comments? Uh some of the questions don't work if you have just sold your skyline. Anyhow. Gives a very good indication of the owner. -
How Would You Build A Street Sleeper?
R33_Dude replied to R33_Dude's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Have been giving this some more thought (and I can't believe this thread is still going). I was thinking a 1998 Lancer 4 door GLi (I hate them with a passion by the way) with the 1.8 litre 4G93 twin cam. Then add on one of these babies: http://www.raptorsc.com.au/kits.php?id=24 for a nice 134 kW ATW add an intercooler for safety, or even a water to air intercooler off a subaru liberty so its kept under the bonnet. Plus extractors and a quiet but free flowing exhaust system, should give a nice multiplyer on top of the supercharger. According to the bumf the supercharger kit alone makes for a 13 second car. That would be amusing. -
Found Cheap R33 Gts-4, Needs Abit Of Work, Worth It?
R33_Dude replied to bretto1588's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have been looking for a damaged skyline for a while so i can buy it cheap and do what I want to without limitations. If anyone comes across anything from 4k - 6.5k let me know. As long as its mechanically sound I don't care too much about the body as long as its structurally intact (i.e. chassis/pillars aren't screwed). Just throwing it out there -
Found Cheap R33 Gts-4, Needs Abit Of Work, Worth It?
R33_Dude replied to bretto1588's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Exactly what I did when I had my 33. They are very easy to work on and if you or your friends can spray paint its a fairly painless process as long as there is no chassis damage. I want to do it again sometime with a 33 gts-4. Have to sell the poosar first though... -
Have owned a couple of RX-7's. They are thirsty (but frankly I couldn't care after owning several stroked V8's) plus all the other things that people generally associate with rotarys i.e. smooth, revvy etc. I will say this though: a good, well maintained rotary is reliable. Poorly maintained or owned by someone who is not an enthusiast will result in a short engine life, more so than a piston powered car. For instance treat a rotary like a VN and boy oh boy is it not going to last long. However that said between all of the rebuilds I have done rebuilding a rotary was the cheapest (compared to just about all the piston engines I have had aanyway) and for that rebuild I paid someone to do it (not having dealt with rotaries before). I love them its just a love hate relationship and sometimes the hate wins out.

I very much doubt he even acknowleged your existance. Public street? Your an idiot. Can't actually believe I dignified that with a response.

Its good to know the OP learnt from his mistakes - as most of us have. In terms of the driving under the limit thing I live in Tasmania which has a (mostly) crappy population but some of Australias best driving roads around the corner from my back door. The speed limit on them is 110 kph mostly. I would say on a bright sunny day with perfect road conditions plus zero traffic you couldn't do the speed limit without, say, an R34 Z tune and gentlemen Jim driving for you and EVEN THEN I doubt its possible - some of the linked hairpins are insane off camber, uphill, narrow, blind corners that frequently have trucks travelling in the opposite direction. Have seen many a car with victorian number plates/inexperienced/people from hobart who have never seen a windy road in ditches.... Drive to the conditions and all that crap.
