  2. found a few nice pics of a PS2 mounted in the glovebox of an R33 I took at auto salon (the car with optomus prime on the hood) ill chuck them up, looks like he didnt have too many problems... although the xbox is a bit phatter
  3. you got the [skyline] panel from the back, its sits just under the boot lip when u close it....
  4. two in parallel sounds like a good idea... but im not sure about using more space in the boot maybe we sould wack a nice phat capacitor in instead?
  5. so we can count you in on Team Nerd hippy have a look at this http://development.e-clips.com.au/anton/sh...nterCircuit.pdf need to convert that into a signal redable thru RS232... looking at the specs for the ECU looks like we can display engine temp and boost and all sorts of cool things!!! and there aint no reason we can't make the application skinnable so people could change the visuals of the dials and graphs and colors and stuff as well, that would be pretty swish!!!
  6. ok ive found a guy in AUST who can build us the ATX -> xbox converter, although looking at the wiring diagrams its like $10 worth of stuff so we may as well just do it ourselves... you can buy ATX power extensions so there is your female connector, then you just hack the other one off the xbox PSU and you got the male part... if you have an xbox 1.2 then you dont need to destroy your original PSU.... or you can buy a wiped out second hand xbox PSU and use the connector off that, there is 100's of them for sale on e-bay http://www.x-pc.be/spec/sheets/710796.htm has the power specs for the xbox rated as 100w... no idea how they figure that as if you do the calculations on multiplier and the stepping of the cpu it add up to 37W, plus 8W for the board... even with the DVD and HDD it still dont add up to a hundred... so if we factor in a larget 7200 RPM drive and a usb hub that should take us close to 150W.... http://www.zantech.com.au/apowertech/PSU-1...-12vdc250w.html :D/http://www.zantech.com.au/apowertec...c250w.html halz found us a 12V dc-dc power supply rated @ 250W which should do the trick nicely i think step 1 is to get the xbox in and functioning as a multimedia device, then chuck in the RSM after that...
  7. was going to suggest this http://development.e-clips.com.au/anton/sh...ed/skyline_ecu/ but i should learn to read, sorry didnt realise u wanted GTR
  8. yeah my bad, i killed the DNS server yesterday arvo... should be back up soon
  9. yep was thinking about the micro-itx before the xbox idea but it dont play xbox games... but your right about the powersupply, a lot of people on x-box scene replace theirs with 400W+ pc supplies so they can run extra cooling and hardware... it uses all the standard PC connectors which have both 5v + 12v.... of course none of them actually tell you how they did it, just that its been done... here is instructions on hooking up an ATX PSU to the xbox, they have already schematicd conveters and mapped out the voltages for all the connector pins http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act...24&t=57838&hl=& and this is a connector converter for v1.1 mobo's http://members.tripod.co.jp/barusan/XBOX_ATX.jpg ill pop the lid off mine 2nite and wack the multimeter on the psu connector and see what it pumps out... and
  10. fattdex and i christined it the 'wang' when i bought it... waiting for my group buy stealth to arrive althought after your coment dark im wondering how many people clicked this post expecting a picture of a really big wang....
  11. u dam straight it is.... still waiting for the stealth wing to come in... meanwhile we have plans to use it for one of the following A. Ironing Board B. Book Shelf C. Coffee Table anybody else got some ideas?
  12. ok cool... i have found a bunch of info relating to the factory ECU, pin 7 looks like a good starting point for an RSM... heres what ive found thus far... http://development.e-clips.com.au/anton/sh...ed/skyline_ecu/
  13. and i think this should solve the cooling problems in the boot http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/water-cooled.php
  14. http://www.digitimes.com/NewsShow/Article1...ages=PR&seq=204
  15. are you in the xbox-scene forums? paulb is about to release a LBA48 kernel patch so you can access drive space after 137G... here is the link but you might need to sign up http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act...50entry687266 oh an i hate cables as well, here is a few things ive been working on http://development.e-clips.com.au/anton/xbox/ i take it your a programmer as well? or you just like playing around? you got msn or icq or something, might be easier than this... unless you figure anybody else wants to read it?
  16. tried debian, but ive been using gentoo for ages so i just went with that... ive modded a cheep ass controller and replaced the memory card ports with usb ports so i can plug in a usb keyboard and mouse so that makes it much easier than trying to type using the controller!!! oh we definately need to further develop the RSM idea!!!! i aint got anything funky in there as yet... any ideas where we start looking for the I/O details
  17. remove the black trim that sits over the boot lip (with the square cut out of the centre for the boot latch to click into) there should be about 5 clips holding this in, just yank upwards... then you remove the grey trim boot lining thats underneath it, this will have a crap load of clips in it - just unscrew the centre bits of the clips with a phillips and pop the outer rims out... there should be 4 bolts holding it in, 2 at either end, youll need a long ratchet to get in there... oh and there is also a little white clip in the centre of the panel, you'll need to use a flathead screwdriver to get that out, just press the little tabs in and the pull the panel out... hope that makes sense, if not let me know and ill take some happy snaps for ya!
  18. was talking to some of the guys in exclusive the ohter night, and they suggested using the xbox for the ECU as well! its only 8 bit registers so it wouldnt be too hard to make an adapter and then write a software app to control it, ive got the xbox SDK so i could either write it in .NET (C#) or write it in any other language and run it under linux.... ive got gentoo installed, how bout u?
  19. tell me about it!!! i took the stacker out my boot on saturday to start making some room, and also pulled the head units out to see how much space there is behind the dash... can quite easily fit a heap of stuff in there i reckon!
  20. sweet cruise ash, well done... when's the next one where's my prize for coming 1st love the narrow road, wtf was with the cattle bridge tho, glad my car isn't as low as everybody elses!!! shame about the a$$hats with the bmw/skyline/oldcar! kinda makes us look bad coz he had a skyline and he wasn't even with us... stupid locals fattdex has shopped all the pics so ill get him to stick them up l8r today, might go home at lunch and grab them, kinda left in a hurry this morning...
  21. id love one of these http://www.strathfield.com.au/Product.asp?ProdID=401 but ive got a sunroof so thats out... at one stage i was looking into getting an old notebook, removing the 12" and putting that in the dash, but there is too much work involved in adding a VGA port to the xbox, or working out the syncing on the monitor to get it to accept an RCA input signal... looks like 7.2" is the go for me... has to be visible all the time tho, im not a fan of the pop-outs....
  22. unit details: - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&threadid=23711 factory fronts, kenwood rear splits, with the cool light thingos you hook up to the parkers... tv... hmm something like this i think: - http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?...x=&SUBCATID=687 would love to spend like 3k+ on a nice kenwood or clarion unit but pfft if thats happening anytime soon
  23. coz i was planning on mounting the cd-drive in the dash with all the controller ports it reduces whats in the box... so i was going to de-shell it all and foam it into the glove box... inverter definately in the boot next to the battery, just have to decide if i go the av pack straight into an amp, or put in a head unit so i dont have to use the xbox for the radio...
  24. how wicked would that be, going on a cruise and our passengers playing multi-player halo or something!!!
  25. might be a good idea with the 400w, although i was just planning on putting a usb wireless adapter in the box and using the internal 5/12v supply to power it, and then having the bridge inside the house... not much point carting a bride around with you is there? unless we plan on networking on the cruises!!! also where in the boot were you thinking of mounting the box, next to the battery and under the hicas box?
