Hey Scotty, I have a 40 micron proflow filter before my fuel rail. Is there any need to go below 40 micron? Great idea about changing the filter before the pump. Ill do that and run it after my lift pump. I still have a 65 micron sediment filter that came with the lift pump anyway. Ill cut the paper filter up and post results on here anyway..

Sard Fuel Pressure Regulator E85 Safe?
Gareth87 replied to Chris32R's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Gts30t - I like turbosmart stuff, but I don't want to spend money on a new reg if I don't have to.. Chris 32R - Do you mean you have put your sard reg in? or stock? -
Sard Fuel Pressure Regulator E85 Safe?
Gareth87 replied to Chris32R's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just had it pointed out to me that my sard reg probably isn't E85 safe. Anyone had one fail? I can only assume that if a lot of you are using a stock RB reg, that an aftermarket one would have a good chance of withstanding problems from E85.. -
Sorry. Should of been clearer. I'm using e85

Does anyone know where i can get a genuine replacement strainer for a walbro 460 e85 pump? Mine is looking a bit brown after switching over to e85.

Been reading the feeds on fuel filters. I currently run a 300zx paper filter before my lift pump followed by the walbro strainer and a 40 micro mesh filter after the pump. I read the paper filters are a bit of an issue with flow amd the glue failing. Luckily, as I'm only running a paper filter on the lift pump, flow isn't a big issue. But, has anyone got something to recommend that doesn't seem to break down? This might be a stupid idea, but what about the holden cars running flex fuel? Surely their filter part number will be fine..

Ok cool. Cheers for the info everyone. Looks like I will have to flush the system with unleaded before letting it sit regardless. If I run the 1000s I hope I can get enough out of them. Would hate to go through the whole conversion process to find I don't make a power gain because I run out of injector..
-
I was thinking that may be the case Scott. I will quite possibly downsize to 1000s however of course, the stainless internals is what I wanted in the first place and if the only choices are xspurt 1400s or ID1300s, it doesn't leave me too many options. Now that you have told me about the 1500s just being released, I will steer clear of those at the moment too. I will definitely upgrade the ecu in time but the problem I have is that I live overseas 8 months of the year and only have a short time to get it sorted.. a better ecu will have to be next time round. Are the EV14 1000s fairly good at withstanding ethanol?

ok great, I've heard very good things about them from several tuners, however, it's frustrating that I can't use the injectors I've bought already! Does anyone know anything about the DW 1500s? I'm getting a bit lost between what's made by Bosch and what build in conjunction with Bosch/DW/ID.. Anyone clear this up? Cheers

Hey All, Cheers for the feedback, I am definitely not having blaming the 1400s.. They work in many applications without issues. Scotty is selling a great product and has been incredibly helpful to me throughout my build process. It could be a number of things on my setup causing the miss but for whatever reason, the miss is following the injector which leads me to believe it is an injector issue at very low opening times. We can run it rich on cruise and it works, in fact, at 5% fuel to that injector on cruise also brings it back on 4 cylinders. As it's been suggested, the spray pattern could be an issue with my engine as well. I have looked at the ID1300s and that will be my next plan by the looks of it. These injectors are bloody expensive though. My Old Wolf V4 is running the injectors well, which I am blown away by, we measured each injector plug with an oscilloscope while it was running and the wolf is doing what it's supposed to be doing. I was almost prepared to buy a new ECU but we really don't believe this is the drama. Who's using the ID1300s at the moment? XKLABA, how did they tune up?

In my original post I was very careful in saying as little as possible about the injector. Fact is.. many cars run this injector with no issues at all as we've seen. We thoroughly tested each injector and also moved the injector that was miss firing to another cylinder and the miss followed it to that cylinder. Likelihood is the supplier might not have matched the set as you would Scotty. To get it to run on 4 cyl at cruise, each injector had to be trimmed slightly differently which as most of us know, this is not good without a pyro in each runner. My only option is now to test another injector with my ecu and try it. Fuel pressure was good and I don't know about injector voltage. Resistance was also checked. We really have gone to a lot of trouble to get it to work and this is not the first set of 1400s to come across my tuners dyno. Process of elimination now..

No chance to setup dual injectors.. I would need to build a new manifold. If I can make 480 hp at the wheels on 1000cc injectors.. even if I have to boost the fuel pressure, then I'll be happy. But I'm hearing a lot of e85 results maxing out 1000s at less than 420hp.
-
yes.. I suspect I have ended up with a set not flow matched well enough at low MS.. I guess most flow benches don't go down under 3ms
-
quite a few different reasons, but the crux is that I drop cyliders on low injector opening times.. and I can be sure that after 4hrs on the dyno, there is no chance I can run them. I realise they work very well in a lot of applications, including a mates car, which is why I went that way but it certainly isn't a tuning issue.
-
Few known issues with them I'm really not keen on.. speaking from several tuners point of view.

Hi All, I've switched over everything to run E85 and for several reasons, the 1400cc injectors I had chosen won't work with my setup. I don't seem to have many options for injector sizing but it looks as though I have to step down to 1000cc injectors. Can anyone tell me what horsepower figure will max out a set of 1000cc injectors with a Walbro 460 on a 4 CYLINDER FJ 20. I realise this depends on several things, but at present it made 400hp at 17psi on 98 octane. (I assume it will go over 450hp) Any input would be great...

Fuel System Setup.. Line Size Recommendations
Gareth87 replied to Gareth87's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I've just measured the inside diameter of the hardline running along my car and it's 6mm Of course, 5/16th fuel line has an 8mm diameter and I am setup to run 5/16th from a walbro 460. I figured the hardline would be 8mm ID as well but now I am concerned I will have a flow issue. Scotty, you've mentioned to me that 5/16th line will be fine but are the standard hardlines on a skyline 6mm ID as well? -
Fibre Washer And Fuel Hose In E85
Gareth87 replied to Gareth87's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the info everyone. Exactly what I needed to know. I'll give the fibre washers a go on the test bench and see how it goes. If not I'll run some copper or alloy. The bulkhead I'm running through the lid is 16.5mm and I could only find copper in 16 or 18mm. -
Just getting the last bits together to assemble my surge tank that will house a walbro 460 and I'm not sure on a couple of things. I need to seal the fittings in the lid of the surge tank as I'm not using weld in style fittings. Has anyone used those red fuel resistant fibre washers with e85? I will need to leave them submerged in the tank. Also.. what's the go with fuel hose.. read lots and no real definitive answer. What should I buy.

Fuel System Setup.. Line Size Recommendations
Gareth87 replied to Gareth87's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hey Scotty, no worries and thank you for your help throughout the recent months during my research on this. As you can understand, I don't want to get to my dyno slot and have overlooked something. Using a sard reg so should be good. As long as 5/16th lines can see over 500hp.. ill be happy. -
Hi All, Been reading up on fuel line size in the forums here and it seems that 5/16ths size line which is about 8mm ID, (ie, standard skyline size) seems to be sufficient for 500 - 550hp plus. (This will be my target) Just want to ask if anyone sees any issues with the following.. My feed to the fuel rail from a Walbro 460lph will be 5/16ths rubber hose from the pump to the hard line under the car and rubber hose again to the rail. Rail to reg is also 5/16th and reg back to tank is 5/16th split into 2x 1/4" hard lines. (original carby setup) All other overflow and feed lines are also 5/16th. Only issue that I'm concerned with is that I believe the Walbro 460s have a 3/8th outlet and I didn't want to downsize from 3/8th to 5/16th after the filter... Will this be an issue?? Thanks for the feedback in advance.. G
