  1. Sorry to say but you've got real problems by the sound of it. Three main ways coolant can mix with oil are; blown head gasket, cracked head, cracked block. None of these is an easy fix although the blown head gasket is by far the most preferable and cheapest to remedy. There might be a simpler reason for your problem but I'm not aware of it. Maybe others will know more than I do, which wouldn't be hard. Good luck. Greg.
  2. Sounds like the radiator is partially blocked, just cause they've got coolant in them doesn't mean it won't block up over time. Had the exact same problem with an old Ford and I dicked around replacing everything else but as soon as I put a new core in the problem was solved.
  3. I know bugger all about high end auto security but what I do know is that I dont really want to have to chain the car to the house 24/7 or spend $3K to protect a car worth about $10K. Has anyone got any thoughts as to installing a good old fashioned "kill switch"?? One of these hidden somewhere inside would surely confuse the amateur thief. It just seems like it would be a cheap, easy way to protect it from toe-rags who just want to flog the crap out of it for a couple of hours. Obviously a pro would sus it in a second but how many pros could be bothered pinching and old car anyway?? Greg.
  4. Bet your arse it will suck your wallet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only had one for a couple of months; decent tune & service + brake master & pads =$1200, tyres =$800+, timing belt & h2o pump =$350 and the list goes on. Whatever you spend on the purchase make sure you hold at least $2k back no matter how good the car looks there is ALWAYS something that needs doing. But it feels fantastic when that little turbo kicks in. The user name is no joke .
  5. Can understand your pain. Just recently my son finished work and walked out to find the car with a smashed driver's window, the face off the old crappy radio missing and just to top it off the toe-rags had keyed the boot lid nice and deep. No attempt to steal the car just damage it. WHY??????? Went to the local council because the carpark has big signs saying "This Carpark Under Video Surveillance". Guess what.......theres no frigging cameras. The signs and false camera mountings are supposed to be a deterrent. The only ones fooled by the signs are poor pricks like us who park there thinking its safe.
  6. follow this tutorial and you can't go wrong. the idea of using hot water to soften the filter hoses is golden and makes it a hell of a lot easier to get the little sucker off with a lot less bleeding. http://www.anthonymcgrath.co.uk/gtroc/fuelfilter.htm
  7. hi all, heres the first of my queries concerning my half of a r32 gt. i say my half because apparently i own the half that don't work properly. changed the timing belt, tensioners and h2o pump. we were lucky cause the old belt was rs and ready to give way at any moment, anyway we got it back together and fired it up. on choke everything was sounding good, no valves kissing pistons and the coolant was staying on the inside which is a bonus . but heres the rub ; when the car is warm and pulls up to a stop sign/ intersection etc the revs die to about 3-400 and if it doesn't stall then the revs will pick up to around 1100 for a second or two and then drop back to 600 where they should be. now before we start pulling it apart to look at idle control valve, fuel pump solenoids, vacuum leaks and the inside of a duck's guts i was wondering if it was possible that the timing belt has jumped a tooth or we got it wrong by a tooth and this is causing the problem ie valves not opening at exactly the right time. i was always under the impression that one tooth would mean it would run really rough all the time at best and at worst valves would be dancing on pistons but i read somewhere on the forum where a bloke had a belt 3 teeth out and it didn't kill it. what do you reckon, could a one tooth mis-alignment be the problem?? or is it coincidence and we need to start looking elsewhere?? btw it was running good before we started messing with it. regards G.
  8. hi Adam, its simple, its called a father son relationship. i help purchase, he owns the ignition keys, drivers seat etc and i own anything that doesn't work properly or needs replacing. hope i'm not the only old fart caught in this predicament. note... even though i've had 351's, 308's and a couple of quick bikes apparently i still don't know shit from clay, amazing how smart teenagers are and how dumb us oldies are, oh well back to it. its fathers day and we're sorting an idling problem. lucky for me i got a new set of ratchet ringys for f's day . regards.
  9. hi all, have just recently become part owner of a 1993 rb20det . unfortunately its the kind of partnership where i pay and they drive, i have to sneak a drive when no-ones looking. not a bad car but not as good as it first appeared , never mind, gives us something to do on the weekends as long as the money and the skin on my knuckles hold out. not really all that familiar with this type of rocket, more at home with older simpler style of vehicle and no doubt there will be a few queries and dumb questions to be asked as we get this one sorted. diy & tutorials are great and have already used them a couple of times. a big thanks to all those contributors . regards.
