Ah man this thread got funny! I love how sarcasm never translates over the inter-web, even if its REALLY obvious! If you want to put a front mount in, I say go right ahead. You probably won't notice a whole lot of an improvement, but hey, everyone's got one, may as well join the crowd! I noticed a small boost increase in my r33, but nothing to rave about. If you've got the money and you want to do it, just do it. I mean there are possibly better bang-for-buck mods you could do for $800, but putting FMIC in your sig gives you way more street cred.

I've read a few dozen posts about fuel system upgrades but I have a few additional questions I have been wondering about. Car is stock at the moment, just a FMIC + 3" exhaust I have a 10psi R32 actuator at home to put on and plan to get a Toshi remap/ high flow in a few months. Pretty basic, well trodden path stuff. Who knows where it will end up. I want to upgrade the fuel system as a precaution, my options are; Walbro intank $160ish 040 intank $220ish Stock intank, surge tank under car, 044 external $300ish My thinking is that Nissan obviously did some R&D into fuel pump placement etc to ensure that there was no fuel starvation, even when the tank was basically empty. Will a generic intank pump be guaranteed to do the same kind of job? I'm a little worried about chopping and changing stuff inside the fuel tank (not because I'm incompetent) cos if something goes wrong (I have read lots of failure stories about the Bosch + Walbro intanks) it is a prick to have to service.. So, other option, will the stock in-tank pump be happy feeding a 1L surge tank, feeding a bosch 044? IE; will there be less load on the stock pump, can it happily keep up with an 044 at WOT.. Will this carry on forever so I wont have to re-do it (the real motivation here) OR am i thinking way too much about this, it being a street driven, slow 'ol boat.. Any input appreciated. Cheers

Haha gold! An 1990's GX Liberty came up to autObarns the other day with a front mount so I had to take a look. Still had the blue plastic end caps on it... bah why!

Maybe its bigger cos it needs to power 2 more wheels?

Any Experience With Usb-> Serial Adapters?

The ECU we are using has a USB and is fine, its the Wideband O2 logger we cant get to work. USB's are ritually shit though, I always have problems with USB stuff -
That's great about the WRX injectors. Who'd of thought it! Yeah, me and my mate just finished doing a turbo-motor conversion on a 1990 Golf Mk2 GTi and I used to own a Volvo 240 with a turbo motor swap. Sleeper projects are fking great fun!!
-
Sounds like a good little project! I think if the turbo is in good shape then you may as well use it. I know some people have had issues with boost creep on the KKR turbos. I say stick with the VG30 unit, put it all together, and if you find you need to upgrade to a larger unit (unlikely i would think on a stock motor) then you can do it at a later stage. Is the X-Trail motor based around the KA24DE motor used in the US-240sx?? IE; could you source a KA turbo-conversion manifold from the states? How are you going to get on with the WRX injectors? Are they a straight fit in the std rail (?) or are u looking at custom rails etc? Sounds like fun!

Taping Noise In Engine Around Rocketcover...

Dude, relax. There was no offence intended. You've been given some advice and your question has been answered. It's fair to expect a bit of stick on forums like this, its all part of the wonderful world of faceless communities :-) If you don't like it, use spell-check. -
Taping Noise In Engine Around Rocketcover...

In all seriousness, as Benzino said, get it TOWED to your mechanic, get him to put a bore-scope in there and see what is going on. It might only be a little piece but it could do alot of damage. Hopefully he can remove it without taking the head off, or it might be too late. GL man -
Sound deadening is your friend- do the whole car if you REALLY want to alleviate rattles/ road noise. Every rattle is detracting from your SQ. Find a nice 10" SQ sub in a sealed box, give it plenty of power, get rid of the 6x9s and put in some well amplified good quality front stage speakers. Try to listen to them before you buy though, as all speakers are not made alike. I would suggest trying to find speakers that have a warmer sound with a nice meaty midrange. I had some Hertz splits in my old car and they were very treble-rich; Awesome for classical music, electronica and 'clean' rock/pop. But anything with heavy cymbals or really crunchy guitar distortion just became noise. I had to have the high frequencies leveled right down from the deck. Shame, it killed my love of punk music! (cos it sounded so shit in the car) Hope this helps.

Any Experience With Usb-> Serial Adapters?
Yeedogga replied to Yeedogga's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks heaps for the help guys, Ill try everything suggested and see how I get on. Worst case scenario t I might have to invest in a cheapo laptop for tuning... Or just buy a gauge for the LC-1 (which would have been a smart idea from the start!) Cheers all Chris -

Running In A Turbo & Results - Gt3076
Yeedogga replied to Tangles's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Good stuff tangles, glad you made the power you wanted after all the mucking around! Did you make that power with a Toshi remap?! And standard injectors? I didn't know the remap could support such a large turbo upgrade.. Can Toshi remap to suit bigger injectors too? -

Oh Adrian where would we be without you? Tom mentioned you might be going for a test run with him? Maybe see if you can get the LC-1 to work with the PCM CIA thingo. I dont really want to buy another laptop. U rang before mate, did u get the size of your rad hose? -
Also make sure the seats you are putting in have an 'ADR approved' tag on them. Bear in mind this doesn't necessarily mean they are a 'safe' or 'good' seat but will make engineering more straight forward. I made up box section steel rails with high tensile bolts for ADR approved seats on my old car and John at Consulmotive passed them OK.

I put 4300k HIDs in my r33 s2 - They are GREAT for visibility but I'm going to change them for some 6000k bulbs because I want the Jay Dee Em brue corour! I have mine adjusted quite low but still get people 'flashing' me thinking I have my high beams on. Another reason I'm going to the 6000k

I was under the impression that in NSW, a standalone ECU is never 'legal', even if you get it emissions tested, due to the fact you can alter the tune/ mixtures at any time. (Potentially making your emissions test irrelevant.) Also, from what I understand, an engineering certificate wont get you off a defect notice for an exposed pod filter/ atmospheric BOV/ vented catch can/ exhaust too loud as they are strictly non ADR compliant. (and cannot be made compliant) I may be wrong here, feel free to correct me! (Not a stab at you Guilt-toy, just throwing a spanner in the works)

I'm positive you can get pod filter adapters to suit RB26s DRIFT/ AutObarn stock them - (obviously you will need two) Part # D1-PA-8 - Air Filter Adapter Plate for Nissan 180 SX / Silvia (SR20) - Nissan R32 / R33 GTR Twin-Turbo (RB26) - Pulsar Gti-R Klippan DO make seatbelts for HCR32 4dr - Part numbers: Front Left: K6303 + K4425 Front Right: K6304 + K4425 Rear left: K7149 Rear centre: K1637 Rear right: K7148 Go to autObarn, we're better than REPCO! :-) - if you were in Sydney I'd say to come see me but I'm sure there should be some big autObarns in Melb Good luck hope it helps Chris

Any Experience With Usb-> Serial Adapters?
Yeedogga replied to Yeedogga's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for all the replies guys, yeah the software is looking for the LC-1 at a COM port, but as Guilt-toy said, i don't have any COM ports. From what i understand, the drivers with the adapter are supposed to make the USB input 'appear' as a COM port? Does this sound right? Otherwise I have seen some SERIAL -> PCM CIA adapters that go into the network card slot. I might give that a shot, or buy another laptop. I also had a quick read of an article on the web that said you can wire a DB9 serial plug into a DB25 com/parallel port and it works? http://www.lammertbies.nl/comm/cable/RS-232.html I'll be the first to admit I'm not great with computers so if this makes sense to someone...! Great! Cheers Chris -
Hi all, Just a quick question: I have an Innovate LC-1 with a DB9 serial out- but my laptop does not have a serial port- I'm using a USB -> SERIAL adapter I bought from Jaycar. I can get the LM Programmer software to recognise that the LC-1 is connected but it wont show up any data. The LogWorks software wont recognise the LC-1 at all. Free air calibration and setup was all done according to instructions. Anyone else had any dramas/ experience with this? Cheers Chris

*sigh* It's threads like this that make me wonder why IQ tests aren't mandatory for getting a drivers' licence, much less owning anything more 'dangerous' than a Toyota Echo.
