Black Substance Around Turbo Inlet
Yeedogga replied to LANDSCRIBBLE's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Is it just me or is the oil 'vortex' pattern going the opposite way that the air would be sucking into the compressor wheel? IE: the compressor wheel is spinning clockwise (and so pulling air from the 'left' of the vanes) but the oil pattern seems to be going anti-clockwise? Or have i misunderstood basic fluid/air physics? (most likely) -
Is it a cusco one or something else? Any pics?
-
Yeah I only ask because whilst the Hypergear turbos are great (I have one myself) they aren't the most responsive out there...
-
Dumb question, but is it a plain bearing or ball bearing core? Standard size comp/turbine wheels?

Hi all, Just wanting some input on a tyre dilemma- hope this is not traversing ground already specifically covered in other threads I have 17x9 +15 rims on my r33 gts-t. Weekend car/ track day use. Currently running Kumho KU31 in 225/45/17 which need replacing. These are the contenders; Kumho KU36 in 225/45/17 - $150 ea Kumho KU36 in 235/45/17 - $200 ish ea Toyo R1R in 245/40/17 or 255/40/17 - from St George tyres ebay- 2007 build- $180 ea I am keen on the Toyos in a 255 (will need to do guard work and more camber) but am worried that they are 5 year old tyres!! I would rather not spend more than $200 per corner. Opinions? Thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks

Hi all, Shoot flames and cook marshmallows with this 3" stainless decat pipe. Has offset 2-hole flanges to directly replace standard (or aftermarket) cat. Designed for R33 but may very well fit others, depending on flange alignment of your cat. It was slightly longer (~10mm) than my aftermarket cat, but still fit up fine. I had it fitted for a few days but ended up putting the cat back in (cos im a wuss) Comes with an OEM-looking heat shield bolted into place for stealth factorz. Has threaded port for cat-overheat-sensor and comes supplied with a block off-bung for the same hole. After $50 for it, pickup preferred but will post if required. Carlingford, NSW Cheers (pics up tonight/tomorrow)

The elbow is the stock cast aluminium piece which bolts onto the compressor outlet. This sits directly under (ie; touching) the crossover pipe. Hence the crossover pipe cannot sit any lower. All of the I/C piping is stock. I am keen to hear input from Stao to see if the rear housing places the compressor in a slightly different position than stock. Sure, the sarcasm was probably uneccesary, but so was the assertion that I've done something wrong.

Well, thank you for the productive feedback. I think (and am happy to be corrected) that the turbine housing on this turbo is a different size/shape than the standard one. It seems to me that this difference in size/shape has caused the compressor housing to sit higher than the standard one. Thus, the outlet elbow and crossover pipe also sit a little higher. But you're right, I've probably just assembled the whole thing upside down... Yeah, i was going to clock the housing however the actuator mounting prevents me from moving the housing around the amount I need. The bend in the strut brace almost worked, but it became too short to line up with the strut-top mounting holes! ;-)

My fully sick JJR strut brace doesn't fit back on with my PU highflow (even when i bent the shit out of it) because all of the I/C piping sits about an inch higher than stock... Anyone know of an R33 strut bar that has more clearance? Cool story, right bro?

My Hypergear experience- part deux! Hi all, I posted a few weeks ago about my Hypergear experience up to and including fitting of the turbo and a quick run. I had the car tuned yesterday by TOSHI and here are the final results; Car Specs for those who missed the last post; R33 S2 Unopened RB25 ~100,000km Hypergear PU Highflow (non SS1) Blitz return flow FMIC Splitfire Coils Metal intake with std airbox Z32 AFM S15 480cc injectors Gizzmo Boost controller Xtreme Cushion button clutch Peak power of 287.4 RWKW at 20psi which tapers off to around 17-18psi We turned the boost down a little bit and got repeatable runs of around 280-285. TOSHI spent basically a whole day tuning the car and was very very thorough. I would definitely recommend TOSHI without hesitation- he has done a great job with the car and even managed to have the turbo come on alot sooner than i had anticipated! If you need a tune, call TOSHI or PM him on here. The car feels great and when full boost arrives at around 4,500-4,750 it pulls like a train. Put it this way, if one were to open it up on the street (in controlled conditions of course!) you would run out of road pretty quick :-) Any questions feel free to ask away, ill put up some more photos etc when i get around to it. The photo attached is just a photo of the peak run- i have a print out of another run but its in HP which is annoying! Cheers!

Epic work and results- I remember reading about this car in HPI a few years back. Good to see it evolving! -
I just checked a broken off turbine wheel from a 21U and it measured 52mm (or close enough) at its widest point. Id post a pic but iphone wont let me.
