P Platers Driving Turbos And V8's
PSI-FED replied to Aussie_Delivered_R32_GTR's topic in New South Wales
I stopped reading your post there. Everyone seems to know a mates cousins, friends, uncles nephew who has been driving their whole P's in a turbo vehicle. Cops being lenient and letting people off? I don’t know where you guys are from but NSW is not like that the slightest. I personally know of people driving their family C200 Kompressors not having any idea that their supercharged and losing their licence for it for 3 months. Heck ive even heard of people losing it for driving bloody 350z’s due to them being on the banned list. Its just not worth it doing especially in an import., you will get pulled over and you will lose your licence. -
warps speaks the truth. Having just got a new xr6t daily its fast becoming one of my favourite cars ive owned. Cant imagine how fun it would be with mild mods with 300rwkw and 600nm+ of tyre frying torque =p the thing smokes up the rears mid corners with ease with just abit of throttle as it is !

Interesting News Article
PSI-FED replied to PSI-FED's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Dono weather i should be scared or not. What happens if the car does test positive? I can pretty much kiss $50,000 goodbye and never see them again as i highly doubt any of those costs would be reimbursed. Not good =/ -
Radiation: A Nissan worker checks radiation levels on a "Nissan GT-R" sports car produced in Japan at its Oppama factory in Yokosuka, some 40-kilometre south of Tokyo. Picture: Toshifumi Kitamura Source: AFP First test of non-food imports from Japan Fears used cars will contain radiation Pressure from dock workers resulted in tests A BOATLOAD of 800 cars arriving in Sydney from Japan will be tested for radiation by the nuclear watchdog after other Japanese vehicles were found to be radioactive. The move is the first Australian test of non-food exports from the fallout-ravaged Asian nation, and marks a turn-around in position for the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. Officials from ARPANSA will board the cargo ship Trans Future 7 when it docks in Port Kembla on Thursday, after picking up 700 Toyotas and 100 other cars from the Japanese port of Yokohama. Thirty of those vehicles are used cars, which the maritime union fears could have been in areas affected by the March earthquake and tsunami that damaged nuclear reactors along the Japanese east coast. The officials will use hand-held radiation detectors and will also take surface samples from spots where people in Japan could have touched the vehicles Previously, the agency had said such tests were unnecessary. However, after intense pressure from dock workers and the discovery in Chile of low levels of radioactivity in cars shipped from Yokohama, ARPANSA said it will conduct the tests to reassure stevedores. The Maritime Union of Australia said the decision was a win for both workers and the general public. "Any risk of radiation is too big to take," Assistant Secretary Warren Smith said. "Workers and consumers come into direct contact with these cars. "We know from the tragedy in Japan that people are feeling the effects of radiation hundreds of kilometres away from the destroyed nuclear plant. We can't take the risk of contaminating workers." ARPANSA's acting head of Radiation Health Peter Johnston said the agency did not expect levels of radioactivity but was taking the measure as a precaution. "We're not expecting to find anything but what we're discussing at the moment is to go on to the ship and monitor a few vehicles before they unload, really to provide reassurance to dock workers," he said. "We'll have a range of different instruments." Professor Johnston said that food remained the highest risk area for radioactive contamination and ARPANSA was also continuing to test exports from affected areas. So far only one sample has been found to be radioactive, and that was below the international safety standard. Whats The Catch
PSI-FED replied to iplen's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
They show pricing landed and complied. Sh*t can hit the fan as with anything so thats only a rough estimation/guide and the real price could be +/- 1k in your case. Then ofcourse comes rego + insurance which adds on another easy 3k depending on how old you are -

Turbo Vehicles And What Could Have Been...
PSI-FED replied to jjman's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Turbochargers are always going to be superior and more efficient than a naturally aspirated engine and thats just simple physics. More air into motor for same amount of work = win. In saying that displacement is very important. Look at the rb26 for example. As great as a motor it is it will never achieve the torque curves of a rb30 or 2j for the simple fact that its lacking the extra cc's. Turbo IS great, however at the end of the day there is no replacement for displacement especially when the two complement each other. Heck look at the big 4L XR6 falcons and how easy it is to extract power out of them. Compare the Rb26 to a LS2-TT for example. 1.3L driving a pair of gt25 turbos vs 3L driving a much bigger pair of turbos. Not really rocket science which will make more power and usable torque.. -
I think budget and GTR shouldnt be put in the same sentence :L Why are you selling up for? Ive heard these manifolds help midrange come on slightly more harder but i cant comment as i havnt had any experience with them. I am aware that the standard manifold has no problem doing its job, are the benefits of changing them justified by the cost?

Thanks for the quick results guys appreciate the help. The main reason for the PowerFC as opposed to the vispec is the fact that its going to be a 100% street driven car and trying to make it look as standard as possible. The second they open the bonnet first thing they look for is unenclosed pods and If they dont find that they look at your AFM's trying to figure out weather your running an aftermarket ECU or not which can land you in big sh*t. Coil packs havnt been changed seeing as car hasnt arrived in the country yet xD im just trying to get all my parts sourced/stocked cause i get the feeling that im going to get bored very very quikcly from a stock R lol.. A question also in regards to the -9's: id imagine them to be pretty responsive but hows the punch mid end and up high like?

Hey guys im currently sourcing the parts for my setup on my 34R hoping to hit anywhere between 300-330awkw. Currently looking to buy: * 2860-7's (Did look at the -5's but for the power figures im aiming for it would be a waste imo and im also looking to build a streetable machine so went with the -7s) * Exhaust (Heard theres no point doing the dumps so front pipe + high flow cat + catback is what ive got planned. Still unsure weather to buy a jap brand or get it fabricated at an exhaust shop) * Apexi PowerFC * Air Flow Meters (had a look at the nismo ones and their rated at 450ps which is ~330kw and nearing the top of my setup. Any recomendations?) * Bosch 040 or 044 (Still undecided. I want the 040 as its a intank setup and i can easily rig it up at home without messing around too much although not sure if it will be ok for my power goals?) * Sard 700cc (Should be ok without getting maxed out at my power goal?) * N1 Oil pump (Do i really need this for what is mainly a street vehicle?) * HKS Cam gears (ex and in) * HKS SQV BOV (once again im aware their not needed but i heard a BOV does maintain boost levels through gear changes. should i ditch it and spend the money elsewhere?) * FMIC (I have heard that the standard 34 front mount is good for 300kw but id rather change it seeing as its an old part now. Any recomendations on cooler size? Also, is the standard piping going to be fine or should i buy a hard piping kit?) * Boost controller (electronic - still undecided) If anyone has any comments or suggestions please let me know. Cheers

Today the AUD is up to 87.3 yen which is the highest its been in 3 years from memory. IMO definately looks like its going to get up to that boom of 95+ yen per $1AUD we had back in early 08. Another rumor ive heard is that America has officially put a black flag on any imported goods from japan and refuses to bring them into the country due to the radiation concerns. Anyone know if theres any truth to this? To add to that, how real is the radiation threat in relation to vehicles (currently importing and id rather not start growing extra fingers on my hands )

First and foremost I wish to extend my condolences to the people of Japan. I don't have an economics or commerce background so I need some answers from some one who may have a better insight into the matter. The question I have is exactly how much will these incidents affect import cost and import quality. I would imagine that a number of import vehicles would have been damaged but that's just going on presumptions. Prior to the disasters, we where buying approximately 82-3 Yen for every $AUD, several days after the incidents we dropped to 73 from memory and now we are back up at about 80. I recognise the fact that a lot of Japanese investors are pulling out from overseas markets and backing up their economy, in saying this what will the ultimate result be say in 3 months time?

PSI-FED replied to PSI-FED's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
how much is he looking for it? Forgot to mention that i dont really want to spend more than $2500 so any offers under that would be appreciated -
As title says. Not after anything too flash. Relatively low km, cheap and mechanically reliable are the 3 main factors im looking for. Need ASAP, preferably in the sydney region. Cheers
-
absolute bargain! where did you purchase your v-cam system from if you dont mind me asking?? shame im in the market for a 34R otherwise would have snapped this up
-
where are you located?

Im guessing your still 18 seeing as youve got 1 and a half years to get your fulls? How on earth does an 18 year old even contemplate purchashing a car that will set them back minimum $60,000+ after purchase, insurance, mods etc (34 GTR). IMO Keep your feet planted for now and take it as it comes, id personally get a 32 or 33 GTR if the budget permits so you learn to respect and appreciate the fact that your driving a performance machine (something you know nothing about coming from a LE lancer) before splurging all your finances on a 34 only to ruin it.

So I Bought A Datsun 1200...
PSI-FED replied to SHIRUBA_XXXIII's topic in General Automotive Discussion
SR - for a proven and well documented way to go. Should be fairly good on such a light car and you wouldnt need to push the motor more than 180-200rwkw to have an absolute beast of a machine. 13B - Something different, will sound absolutely awesome but at the same time alot more complicated than the SR. All depends on what you want out of it, if you just want a fun, reasonably fast car with a minimal budget id go the SR any day of the week.
