  1. for those of you who didn't already know , it turns out a 4.5L petrol Patrol is gutless. so we are putting a turbo in it.
  2. come to think of it, for me I might need to use the other 75k on compensating for my lack of talent or replacing the car after I bin it on turn 1
  3. ok if someone has 250k here is what I reckon you should do with it. 70k for a race only import JDM R35 35k on built 4.1L bored/stroked built engine and AMS turbo kit, good for 800 awhp easy 3k on COBB Access port and custom tuning 10k suspension (3 way MCA adjustable setup and front/rear control arms/antiroll bars) 6k brake upgrades 6k cooling upgrades 10k on stripping interior, plexiglass and roll cage 20k chinese carbon hood, doors, fenders and front bumper and active rear wing 10k for 18 inch custom light weight forged wheels and 2 sets of RE55s 5k on transmission strengthening now my maths is rubbish but I reckon thats about 175k spend for a car that would be more than competitive in open class and with the help of a driver with some talent would go sub 1:34 then you could take the other 75k or so and fund 2 years of track days in your local whatever comp or throw a massive party after superlap with all the models and your mates. done. anyway thats what I would do if I was single.......

    R35 Build

first time out this year on Tuesday 15th so getting a few things ready. new michelin slicks (28/71-18 front and 31/71-18 rear, man I hope the weather holds out but the forecast isn't looking great.) Dodson rear control arms. New set of ME20 endless pads Have cleaned up the carbon and finally given it a Matte clear coat. It was starting to look a little grubby and was impossible to clean. Cameron from 'Cameron's bodyworks' sorted me out. really nice guy and good job. Had to use a few different cleaners to sort it out (gun cleaner?!) but it looks better than new!
  6. sorry to hear. if your excess is reasonable you could try claiming lost keys under your home/contents.
  7. Thanks Tim, would be good to catch up at QR some day if you can get out for one of the Ruzic time attack events. My memory is slowly coming back to me now. the Uni days have taken a toll on me
  8. Ok so this is not an extreme build or anything flash but might be interesting to some of you out there. with the R35 being relegated to track only use I needed a tow car, so I sent about purchasing a suitable vehicle, swell sort of suitable.... I ended up with a 1999 GU Ti Patrol with the 4.5L petrol engine. Diesels are not that easy to find, certainly not as tidy as this car ast least. 14,000km on the clock, mint as. Dont belive me? Come see it at QR sometime lol. The purpose of the build is to take the asthmatic 4.5L petorl engine somewhere closer to being good for towing. introducing the underpowered whale.... who would have thought 4.5 litres would get you so little mumbo
  9. just to be clear, the tyres have been heat cycled, not roaded in, ie: not driven on.
  10. Lol, heat cycled the tyres didn't 'road' them
  11. will be out on new slicks for first time next tuesday. keen to see what we can manage with them. have used a secret ninja heat cycling method , no phat skidz in west end though sorry Nee San
  12. Thanks Neil, I have noticed some guys wearing mits and scrubbing their tyres between runs. must admit, with the scrap tyres I have not paid them any attention to date. plan to look after the new ones a bit better and maximise the performance I can get out of them also will play around a bit more with pressures and temp monitoring this year now i have half a clue about how they impact on handling and times
  13. thanks again guys. blackrex, appreciate the info. this sounds similar to the stuff I have read. green tyres for the fastest ever lap in a single session - but potentially screwing the performance life, versus heat cylcing and allowing 24 hrs to 'cure' which hopefully results in slightly less ultimate performance but a longer consistent use through more cycles.
  14. thanks Duncan. Might give it a go. I have been told the michelins are faster but go off quicker with heat cycles. Pirellis are marginally slower maybe but handle the heat cycles better. the michelin guys confirm what you have said - that green tyres are the fastest they will ever be after 2 warm up laps to clean of the mould release stuff or whatever is on them and bring them to temp - biggest problem starting from cold is geting the pressures right I take it tyre warmers are not allowed in CAMS sanctioned events. Do time attack guys use them? eg superlap pro class? seems the format would really benefit from tyre warmers.
  15. new slick tyre prep info on the internet is limited. I imagine it is either because a) it is less comlex than I am trying to make it or b) people play secret squirel to gain advantage over competitors.
  16. I should add, that I have enquired with Michelin but most of their info is on racing, not time attack use. very different heat cycling
  17. hey guys, will be going with new slicks this year after spending last year on second hand scrap, I will be running michelin slicks S8 compound up front and S9 rear. interested to know if people do any heat cycling on their slicks or R comps prior to competition track use? below is an article form Hoosier that is typical of most information posted on the internet. This is not very practical for amateurs like me tire rack offer a service where they run the tyres under load on rolers to bring up to temp and also claim to help scrub off the mould release. some others just heat cycle their tyres in an 'oven' or with tyre warmers- not sure how good this is, could be the 'easiest' way to do it but not sure if it has the same effect. of course you would hope to get the mould release etc off the tyre on your first few warmup laps. here is the info from the hoosier site on their tyres interested to hear peoples thoughts/experience Hoosier tyre care guide.pdf
  18. Good work Sebastian! I've said it before, but it's always so much more fun passing someone when you are passing a Porsche
  19. I know the Nissan boys do read this forum so I will say that I think they have done the right thing by listening to their customers and trying to organise one of these track days at a place like PI but I would need more time on the circuit than the schedule offered to make me consider it worthwhile, especially coming from interstate.
  20. Taleb Tyres in NSW. Dunlops take forever to get in though.
  21. transport not offered in Qld either as Drew has mentioned. I passed on the offer. Look at the schedule, long way to haul the car form here with very little track time. If I am going to take the car down, it would be for a couple of weeks and several days at a few different tracks, not a few sessions in an afternoon at one.
  22. AC Hydraulic jacks and stands. The JAck is a low profile one. long reach. high lift. those stands are beefier than they look in the photos even.
  23. althoug I love both makes, its always nice to see a nissan scream past a porsche, no matter what vintage!
  24. Thanks Andy, if it has lapsed happy to rejoin just didnt get any mail or anything like that. unfortunately I dont get along to cruises due to the kids and work. I have to save up my leave passes for track days!
  25. thought I was a member, paid up and all that! I note my qld member thing disappeared too. maybe lapsed membership?
