  1. yes, hard to compare time attack format usage with more longer door to door racing formats. according to Trevor just now, the N1's are a 9 compound.
  2. have a read of this whilst you are all bludging at work http://www.michelinman.com/media/en-US/pdf...ire_Catalog.pdf
  3. actually I dont even have a set of wheels suitable at present in 20inch, so wasnt thinking of this for myself, more posting for others interest as I know if I hadnt gone down the pathway of buying 18 inch wheels I would have certainly considered it. reading an article last night on which slick sizes I should run, michelin point out the following: A SPECIAL NOTE ON PORSCHE Compared to the 27/65-18, the taller size offers several advantages: 1. The increased diameter of the tread band permits easier conformation of the tire to the flat road surface; the tire's tread “maps” to the road surface more readily. This results in improved temperature distribution and increased performance over a longer duration. 2. The greater diameter also increases the total amount of tread rubber available to transfer power to the ground, again improving temperature distribution and prolonging performance consistency. 3. The taller sidewall helps cushion the shock of power application, providing more progressive corner exit with less wheelspin during aggressive acceleration. I dont know enough about tyres to know if this is just marketing BS but has got me researching things more. the 31/71 - 18 tyres I received second hand were only available in the S7 compound which from all accounts is the worst compund to buy second hand. does anyone have the full list of michelin slicks and compounds available? the internet turns up only a limited list which is posted on the european technique website and one or two other places glabally but no where have I found a list of available sizes which is all inclusive of this larger diameter and sizes/compounds. I assume the 71 diameter comes in S7-S9. BTW Duncan, what is the N1 relative to the slicks I have been using? does it still come in the same compounds or is it a different entity alltogether?
  4. who knows, they may be no better or worse, then again, there are no comparisons i could find. If you are serious about getting the best track times though tyres are very important and these might be worth a look especially if they were specifically developed for the R35. also, for those that are concerned about brake clearance/cooling etc or want to use 20 inch wheels, there is at least a slick option now.
  5. http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?sh...c=46044&hl= wonder how these will perform. HK$6850 each, or about AU$920 without import/shipping costs unless Advan/Yoko will do better locally.
  6. congrats. the COBB is certainly good bang for your buck. when combined with a midpipe it is spectacular for the money. have you played with the TCM functionality?
  7. btw Drew, you need a Vbox. should look into it.
  8. Yes, I have a little bit of nerd work on the workstation at home to do with the circuit tools software to find the tenths (or seconds!) gotta have something to do whilst the car is out of action for the next few months. beats watching another run of masterchef or whatever with the missus.
  9. Martin, the brakes have been working really well thanks. The transmission also is keeping under 125, usually just on 120. when I forget to flick the switch (we have it hooked up to a switch, not triggered) temps can run up to 130-135+. Paul likes the power at where it is, and reckons not to push for more. Having said that he also said that when it was stock!
  10. Paul had very little time to get familiar with the car and the track conditions were not the best. I reckon with a little more time in the car and better track conditions he would be close to 52's without new tyres!
  11. very friendly and generous with his time. he was very surprised by the performance of the car. he thought a while back that we might adversely effect the performance of teh car with our mods but he was very impressed. so much so that when he got back in he wanted to devote a few sessions on the other tracks with no traaffic to see what he could get. his only comment was to get new tyres on the thing! he reckons that with new tyres and suspension tuning on a dry track we would break into the 52's on the sprint with no more mods. will get along to some stokell days at lakeside and morgan park next year to get some more 'data laps' with him driving. one of the big things I noticed with him driving is that the car is begging to be hustled through the slow corners adn can carry enormous speed through the high speed sweepers. with so much grip you could be extremely brutal with short sharp accelarations and braking in the slower ares of the track without really upsetting the car too much - no coasting! the short jabs on the breaks in the tight corners really does help the car turn in better

Dont worry, will get the badge on there eventually, plenty of things happening with the car. all the carbon is yet to be clear coated.

yes, need to try some new slicks next year to keep up with everyone. so many fast times out there! as always, working on technique and consistency never hurts either. will hopefully save the second hand tyres for practice sessions.
  15. yeah, all my Vbox timed laps are usually 0.3 - 0.5 off the QR system. But I don't get too upset as I assume everyone gets the same error, as long as the error is in the same direction! not sure though how this works for accumulated laps though. imagine 0.5sec over 5-10 laps..... QR must be able to bend the space/time continuum. I posted my Vbox times though as this is what I compare to Paul's benchmark. The S7 Michelin compound we used today was second hand and went off in the arvo session like you wouldnt believe. Arvo session times were over a second a lap down on the morning session despite some cleaner driver.
  16. thanks Drew, saw you got a 55.04 out there today. did you manage to crack into the 54.xx's? Bill was hitting some PB's also its been said before, but damn these cars are quick!
  17. Posted this elsewhere but thought I would throw it in here... Paul Stokell in my car at QR on the sprint track (yes I can hear the yawns already lol) 53.48 with some casual water in the dipper and on crusty old second hand slicks my favourite part is Paul's inside manoeuvre at Turn 1 (4:55) I managed a 53.9 today, dry track (crusty second hand slicks also) and not that pretty a lap. caught myself out braking too deep into turn 5 whilst watched Aaron Hodges in his crazy Escort park it in the dirt at the hairpin of turn 6 (1:45-1:50)
  18. Paul managed a 53.48 on the sprint with a small amount of casual water in the dipper section. I managed a 53.9 today, dry track and not that pretty a lap. caught myself out braking too deep into turn 5 whilst watched Aaron Hodges in his crazy Escort park it in the dirt at the hairpin of turn 6 (1:45-1:50)
  19. here you go. rather than watch me, see how a pro does it. my favourite part is Paul's inside manoeuvre at Turn 1 (4:55)

New wheels (10.5" front and 12' rear) and larger michelin slicks 28/31-18 front and 31/71-18 rear in S7 compound second hand seemed to go ok but I found it hard to reproduce the times I managed in the morning session as the day went on, increasingly greasy despite attention to pressures.
  22. structural integrity for a track car should be no problem - roll cage should offer more than the stock damaged components ever did - but I suppose I am speaking through my arse without having seen the car mildly damaged JDM for race only - about 40-50k. undamaged JDM car for track only 70k or there abouts
