  1. It smelt good... in a funny carcinogenic kinda way.. although it got a bit worrying when we realised it was burning 2 litres per competitive km
  2. Yeh seriously I wouldn't give a shit about power on gravel its amazing how quick you can get anyway, even in a 4AGE Levin with 90?rwkw we were spending a generous amount of time in 4th gear and by the jist of it these 'shire' events would be quicker/smoother than what we are running on down here. If I were building a gravel rally car now, id build it in this order: suspension/bushes etc, diff, brakes, gearbox, engine. As for wheels you will find the top ARC guys probably cycle a new set of rims each year so the old ones would generally be up for sale. We got all of Ralliart/Pedders old wheels which really only need a clean up and lick of paint (they get rashed pretty bad anyway). Another options for brakes might be 300zx/S14 280mm rotors/calipers??? surely they would clear 15s? currently going through this issue at the moment with the IX as the standard RS brakes (which are scarily the same as whats on a pov spec lancer) just do not cut the mustard (Read: were not pulling the car up and rotors were white hot when we got to service). Short of forking out $15k for Brembo VO's there isn't a huge amount of off the shelf options.
  3. Imagine when people realise that their stock standard car has coilovers?
  4. Should be a piece of piss Ben as your cage is a very similar YT spec to the IX just need a scrutineer? to sign off on it. Best bet is to give Herbie a call at the CAMS state office and he will point you in the right direction. Getting a rego inspection was harder than getting the cage log booked (too many anal RWC stations), in the end Transport just pushed it through with out one!
  5. Well I spoke to him yesterday and he was hoping to make it there, car has been on a jig and the chassis rails had been straightened. Bodyworks were waiting for a few more parts to arrive before they would get stuck into finishing it off. Bought all new suspension arms to put in for safetys sake, just hope nothing else has been damaged that we don't know about (diffs/box/shafts etc). So race against time! Not to mention Marcus isn't due to get the plaster cast taken off his leg from the accident till atleast the week of the event!
  6. This is what you are after http://www.racerecall.com/hdtrakka-gs600-hd-video-with-gps-data-logger-on-today-tonight-p-109.html
  7. Me worried about rollovers? Lol!
  8. I was talking to Woo yesterday and thought how cool it would be (if you didn't have tyre usage to worry about), scando and on the handbrake into that hairpin on Riana... Bring more spectators thats for sure!
  9. I just get tingles looking at all this candy
  10. I could see you steering a V8 commie, but how about Benson's idea??? Seriously!
  11. What are the RWD peoples thoughts on steer/sand tyres on the front? Some swear by it others say you get nothing but trouble. We ran them for a few years on a Levin Coupe (Ben Cullens old one). Had great turn in, but suffered a bit with a lighter sidewalls easily getting torn on rocks. Tried with a normal tyre with a cut and turn in was worse (didn't want to flick as easily) but grip levels were significantly higher.
  12. Wouldn't be a bad caper, Z18 would probably hold you back since they are getting hard to find parts for... Oh and I still have a bluebird, its actually a light weight chassis edition! Finding a new how soon though and will no doubt turn into a khanax hack. Speaking of VC/VH Commies this has come up for sale https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10150255012555971&set=a.454129565970.244732.624155970&type=1&theater would be a good base, or even just a good car to drop a 20/25/30 (since its ready all ready to drop one in)
  13. Couple of front drivers that come to mind Sunny Gti (non turbo FWD) has been past state champ and regular 2wd champ (has a big HP SR20DE) Mirage Cyborg (the one and only Kel nav's in this one!) This was the first gravel car I navved in Surprisingly quick for 1.3 litres! But with all the front drivers they just have to have an LSD and a close box to be remotely exciting (as the three I listed above all have).
  14. Ok so ill start this thread off with some pics from a rally I did 2 weeks ago Bitter sweet as at the end of this stage we had a 26 second lead and won first heat... then rolled 2 stages later
  15. Under PRC Regulations they aren't eligible, due to capacity... Not sure if anyone is running one under AMSAG??? Wouldn't be a bad thing although the minimal suspension travel, physical weight and location of the weight would hinder it. That said the drivetrain (ATTESSA) wouldn't have and problems, probably be a good thing.
  16. I said I reckon you would love the gravel if you could see past the dust Love you
  17. Don't get your kicks dirty in this thread benny
  18. Thumbs up to this thread! Would you guys be interested in coming down to tassie to sample some of our finest? My club is running a round later in the year (end september) as part of the state championship. Usually get a few crews down from mainland for it.
  19. To be honest watching the RX8 in action and watching numerous incar/knowing steves driving style, it looks like an absolute handful to drive, far from enjoyable. GTSt would be heaps better package
  20. I wouldn't care about some italian giving me respect, i'd want to know if she was giving me a blowie
  21. You would need to talk to Allan Horsley the Mazda Motorsports chief about building you one, I can give you his number... but I wouldn't even consider calling him unless you have 6 figures to play with
  22. John was saying they had a new pressie arrive during targa, It was white.. but not white enough for him lol!
  23. Nothing to do with the category more the potential this car could have (if it wasn't so overpriced). Nobody even took a second look at the legends it was a bit of a non-event... It just brough a few has beens back for a trundle. Maybe if Boris and George had have brought the VW it would have been interesting.
  24. http://www.my105.com/4631 Just for the heck of it
  25. I wouldn't say its simple, its not hard (well I don't find it hard), just tedious. You can put what ever input you want into it if you have a source. IE if you have some sort of data logger for rpm/gear/brake force etc you can put it in the software. I only have a GPS logger so I can only get speed/ acceleration/lateral G's and position. Looking into an OBD logger or something for extra data, but at this stage its unneccessary. As for track position have a look at the top right of my video here
