How cool would it be if when the car with DRS engaged gets level with the car its passing, the car being passed can also engage DRS?? Imagine the dicing under brakes then!

You mean from track side? Its not that easy to get someone to stand in the middle of no where for a day to film for 30 minutes in the forest! BUT About 0:45 is our car and again at 2:10 you have to hear it! Im hoping to get a few 'dedicated' guys some cameras and place them through the stages.

Thanks Mark for checking my link out. I am using DashWare http://www.dashware.net/ which is $50 (bit less with the strong dollar), and a QStarz BT-Q1000eX 5Hz GPS Logger (about $199). Its simply a matter of syncing the video and data in DashMate and setting a start finish point, then chosing (or making your own gauges). Its more difficult for rally defining your start and finish points, but if your just circuit racing you just define the start/finish point and it will calculate your laps, and you can choose to ignore out and in laps etc. the QStarz GPS also comes with good software for analysis called QRacing. which will overlay 3 laps at a time and give you analysis which may help for getting your times down.

I think the cars back then were generally more exciting to watch

Everything needs an initial charge... Found it easier than a pov personally. What did you guys have the EV (exposure value) on? I went with -1.0 as recommended in the manual (and Sunny) but found it blacked out the dash too much. First experience was a good one though and the image quality is great, Should have some footage on YouTube soon from some of the 'ahem' "Good" stages we did in yesterdays rally.

You would just go a motec diff controller anyway, or a ralliart controller (which I happen to know where there is one sitting ) Just not convinced you could take an VIII and run it as a VII just by changing bumpers

The RS has proper mechanical diff in the rear, the actual change is quite a lot from a GSR, you have to change basically the majority of the rear subframe, diff housing, axles, tailshaft and centre diff. As this is what we did to Millars old IX.

You would pick up an emo abs unit that would just fit too, plenty around.

Its a Lexus ISF CCS-R (Circuit Club Sport-Racing) 250Kg lighter stripped out, caged/good brakes/suspension/diff. same 311kw v8. Cage is nice, dunno about the seats though!

Yeh I was pretty certain the cutoff year was and would be for the forseable future 2002, not sure where the idea that it increases every year came from. That said VII it is? Probably not ideal for tarmac but this is pretty damn cool, might see it at the Burger ring in June yet!

Just get it rego'd in tassie as SI on a rally log book and you don't have to worry about complied. I don't know that its a huge job to convert a non-abs to abs since the ACD uses the abs sensors for wheels speed, so they already have that part covered.

I love the look of TME's, but just having dipped my foot in the build process of an IX and sitting in the co-drivers seat of one for the first time... OMG if you do it right (IE diffs/box/get rid of AYC etc) they are unbelieveable! I'll post some more footage after this weekend's rally in it, but it just keeps getting better as we learn what to improve! We can sort out storage etc down here no worries, plenty of capable people down here I know to do maintenance etc.

Have any of you guys considered running 98 on the street and buying drums of E85 for the track? You can pickup a 200L drum for about $500 and its FAR better than the crap out of the pump they claim is E85

I miss yumple, I don't think ive had it for 2 years! We shared a service crew, the other team didn't need much service so they told the service crew to go and spectate for the day.. So no service crew at the end of each stage for us.

I know most of you guys are on E85, but how good was it pulling into St Helens and finding they had no 98!!! Made me think there and then its worth the money to have more than one service crew/get fuel from a supplier right there!

Totally agree with what you are all saying, I didn't get the opportunity to get as far as Cethana (or Gunns Plains for that matter), but I understand there was some confusion at the control... Was there a hold up on the stage or what? If there is a line of competitors surely that would have sent alarm bells to the official (who I would assume was doing the same job on friday, thursday and wednesday and surely could have seen the pattern?). As always the best thing to do here is record your own arrival time and now that we have the Rally Safe and it has current time of day maybe take a picture of that if you feel there is (or is going to be) an issue. As for Time penalties, definately the crime doesn't fit the punishment. What was the late time last year? 30 mins to lunch and another 30 after then? to strip it to 15 total and then impose extremely harsh penalties effectively ruining your chance of placing well in the event is ludacris. Had Dan and Handbags gone with a more ARC style penalty of 10 seconds per min late only would have dropped them from 2nd to =5th at the end of day 1. Still enough of a penalty! Anyway Jawwing off on here isn't going to solve anything so I suggest we all put in a report regarding late time penalties and book in time at controls in the survey of the event when it comes out.
