is it the turbo bottom end? what do u mean by 'suit rebuild', what's wrong with it?
-
there is a set at GCG http://www.gcg.com.au/secondHand/secondHand.htm

funkymonkey, yeah, the street directly after the supermarket is called Gladstone st. your mates house is on the corner of edgars rd & gladstone st, and it has a carpark next door on the other corner, correct? you might see me drive past sometimes in a grey VN HSV SV3800 with personal plates.

RNZ11Z, i believe the GT35/40 and the GT35 are both the same. if u can tell me the part number on the centre cartridge, i'll tell you what turbo it is. Also, it should have the A/R stamped on the exhaust housing. yeah, thanks for the chart Steve

Plain bearing vs ball bearing turbo's...
RS500 replied to quik180sx's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
don't go there dude -
USRB, don't be fooled, there are many people that still run the bush-bearing turbos (inc. myself) as they still perform just as good as the ball-bearing turbos if you choose the correct wheel & housing combination. i am actually running the same turbo (T04B 60-1 compressor wheel & a T03 sierra exhaust wheel in a A/R .84 split-pulse exhaust housing) on a 2L and it goes crazy for what it is, although it's a tad laggy for my liking as it's a street car. fyi, it made ~300rwhp on 16-17psi, so there's plenty of flow there cos it just keeps on making power until the 7000rpm rev limiter. we're hoping to bring it up to ~240-250rwkw (320-330rwhp) with a bit more boost but we'll see how she goes. If space is a problem, then go for the T04E A/R .60 compressor cover which will still flow decent amount of air and allow and easier fitment.

hi there, the reason why the numbers don't match up is b/c you are looking at the bush-bearing t3/t4 turbos. after looking at the website, if you still want a t3/t4 turbo which is a nice streetable turbo with heaps of flow, i'd recommend you go for "TA3410-6s or 7s", otherwise if $$$ is no object and you want a ball-bearing turbo, then i'd go for the "NEW" 56-trim GT30 which is listed at the bottom. That's the turbo that a lot of people are running here so it should do you ok, although it will require an external wastegate.

Mick, fyi, the HKS GT2530, 2535, 2540 & GT-RS all share the same exhaust/turbine wheel and it's only the compressor wheels which are different from each other. the HKS GT2530 & 2535 compressor wheels are both from the T3 family whereas the compressor wheel in the GT2540 is actually the smallest from the T04S family, hence why it's laggier than the others, although capabale of more air-flow. the HKS GT-RS actually has a 52-trim compressor wheel from the GT35 family. Incidentally, the GT35 48 & 56-trim compressor wheels are available with the Garrett GT25. lookup the following - CHRA No. 446179-0031 & 446179-0032; http://www.turbofast.com.au/GTseries.html hope this helps, good luck.

Mick, u have a PM. EVOIV, you can always sell your HKS GT3037S to me if it's too laggy for you ;-) also, check your PM.

what turbo again?

For Sale : hi-flow GTR turbos and full exhaust
RS500 replied to RS500's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
* bump * these turbo's are basically equivalently built to the specs of the GTR N1 turbos. -
Megalla, my mate had an adaptor welded onto his manifold for some reason, but it's possible to get the exhaust housings with a T03 flange. btw, like i mentioned in my previous post, he is looking at selling his HKS GT2540 which has the T03 flanged exhaust housing.

fyi, a friend of mine who also has a R32 GTS-T (RB20DET) has managed to get up to 227rwkw while keeping the internals standard and untouched. all he has done is the following; * large front mounted intercooler * 400hp Garrett GT25 turbo with A/R .64 exhaust housing running 19-20psi (446179-0032) * Unichip ECU * full aftermarket exhaust * hi-volume in-tank fuel pump * standard injectors * malpassi fuel press. regulator. * standard intake/exhaust manifolds * standard cams & cam wheels the car has been run in this configuration for the last 2.5 years where it has been very reliable with no faults what so-ever. He has also raced it where in full street-trim he pulled a 13.4@111mph. All in all, the car feels very strong for the street and again, the RBxx engines are tough as nails when it comes to strength so you can't go wrong. Also, fyi, he bought a HKS GT2540 which he wanted to try but has changed his mind (due to overseas work commitments) and is looking at selling it. let me know if you're interested. for specs on the turbo, refer to the following link and the quoted part number above; http://www.turbofast.com.au/GTseries.html

yeah, i know dude, but what, do u guys work on your cars in the supermarket car-park? i'm always driving past there.

Buster, gear changes : i guess what we're trying to say is that with a decent enough launch & gear changes, the TS should be an indication of the engine's power. Although, in Rob77's case, if the power band is very short where he drops out of the power-band after every gear change, then, that's definitely a problem for him to get the ET & TS which his car should be doing. i would imagine that a car which is that peaky wouldn't be very nice to drive on the street. Rob77, we don't mean to dis-respect your car in any way dude with all this jargen above. after our discussion, i'm sure you're car is making the power you are stating, but it's unfortunate u can't extract the times & mph that it should be doing with your setup. it looks like u might have replace the big 16cm exhaust housing to something like a 10 or 12cm. good luck anyway dude.

Hi all, advertising this for a friend. Specs are as follows; Garrett T04 * T04 A/R .70 Compressor housing * 60-1 compressor wheel * P-trim exhaust/turbine wheel * T04 A/R 1.00 split pulse exhaust housing. This turbo is 2nd hand but in excellent condition. It has run in a VL for a short time where it propelled the car to a 12.7@116mph on 16psi. Also, it managed to produce 240rwkw on only 16psi so there's plenty more in it. Based on the specs, this turbo is rated at ~500hp. Price = $1250 please reply here or PM me if you're interested.

just to add a little bit more fuel to the fire, i believe Emre has a valid point here saying that the mph is an indication of the sort of power the engine is making and 111mph for ~340rwhp is quite low. The mph (Terminal Speed) has been used many many times with great accuracy to be able to work out the amount of hp an engine is creating. Of course there are other factors like driver, traction, etc, but unless you're missing gears or having a smoke b/w gear changes, the mph/TS should be within -3 or -4 mph from the expected mph according to the power produced by the engine. For example, a friend of mine (not the greatest driver) with a R32 GTS-T (RB20DET) producing ~290rwhp on a Dyno Dynamics ran a 13.4@111mph in full street trim with 2.5-2.7s 60ft times at Calder Park. I'm sure that with that mph, decent slicks and hard launch he'd be able to run a low-mid 12s ET which is what you'd expect with that kind of power. Also, another example, another friend with a VL which was producing ~190rwkw ran a 12.4@105mph. in this case, the mph definitely indicates the amount of power he was running, even though the ET is quite good which was due to a crazy 1.5s 60ft time. therefore, what i'm trying to say is that too many people these days are coming up with these "big hp" claims but can't back them up by running the expected/appropriate ET or mph at the track. just my 2c.
-
yeah, there are JETs driving around everywhere these days. but my point is that when the VLs were dominating the streets, there was plenty of drag, thrashing & burnout action back then but now everyone only likes to look good while driving in their jap import with big 5" chrome exhaust tip ;-) Funky, are u talking about Gladstone st? if so, i always drive past when going home from Bi-Lo.
-
nope, it's also available with the 500hp Garrett GT30 core http://www.turbofast.com.au/GTseries.html
-
hey dude, please lay off the bagging of the Sierra Cosworth turbos, you know they're just a great car and the turbos did a great job pushing them to the ~600bhp region Sydneykid, in you list of spare parts, would you by any chance have a 56 trim (2.25"/3") T04S (GT30) wheel or the equivalent?
-
that's pretty good response for a trubo of that size. it will be interesting when u can wind some more boost into it and give a nice aggressive tune
-
that's cool. thanks. when u say it's pretty responsive, when do u get the fullboost ruch? i'd like to know how the 600hp GT30 would go on a 2L. Anyone had any experience with one of these on a 2L?
-
GTS-t VSPEC, i do agree about the different compressor wheels although i believe that both the 500hp & 600hp GT30 turbo's come with an option of A/R .63, .82 or 1.06 exhaust housings. http://www.turbofast.com.au/GTseries.html
-
you're actually not that much younger than me and u weren't involved during the VL days, so that's fair enough.
