i'd just like to share something with everyone. fyi, I was actually looking at buying a HKS/garrett GT series turbo for my sierra cosworth RS500 knowing that they would give me the power and drivability that i wanted based on what people wrote/said, but i wanted to give my current turbo a go before making my decision to sell it and outlay the extra $$$ for the GTxx (as my turbo is only about 1000kms old now since new) and what i found was interesting. Since my last dyno, i've decided to save my $$$ (or actually spend them on something else ;-) and to stick with my plain-bearing turbo (specs below) as for a decent price (under $1.5k) you can get a nice brand new plain-bearing T04B/T03 combo (i'd stay away from the T04E wheels) built up which will give you the same power output (if not better) as the GT series turbos with good drivability, response and can be rebuilt for a reasonable price (if required) unlike bb turbos. proof for me was when i had my engine tuned with the following spec turbo; * T04B 60-1 compressor wheel (in A/R .60) and * T03 sierra exhaust wheel (in T03 A/R .84 housing) this combo on my car/engine (sierra cosworth RS500) recently produced 221rwkw on 16-17psi (1.1-1.2 bar) on a Dyno Dynamics with reasonable drivability (fullboost @ ~4300rpm). This power is quite good for a 2L where the car feels very strong on the street w/out having to run very high boost. Ok, given the A/R .84, it isn't the most responsive of engines to drive on the street but it can be bettered if i was to put an A/R .63 exhaust housing although, i'll stick with the A/R .84 for now as i can live with it for now. my point is that people are being sucked in with the 'ball-bearing turbos are the bees knees' and 'plain-bearing turbos are old technology' and 'the difference in response will be like night/day' and you'll get your 'eg, rated 450hp at 1bar' but this to me is all crap, as u see that to get the rated hp (which garrett/hks quote), you need to push the turbo way past 1.3-1.4 + bar of boost which not every engine is built to withstand. so what i am saying is that, look into all the options first and don't rule out the good-old proven plain-bearing turbos. Get what suits your engine/required power level and most importantly, your budget. my rant is over, thank you ;-)

when this turbo comes on boost will depend on which exhaust housing he is running. given that the engine is an RB25DET and that they flow quite well as they are, the turbo shouldn't be too laggy. nice package dude, good luck, it should serve you quite well.

the head would've had to come off anyway as to have found whether it was a valve or piston problem, but it looks like you've found your problem so i'll just shut up then ;-)

which centre core is it?

what spec turbo are we talking here dude? -
MisterTwo, a friend of mine took his car (R32 GTS-T) to Technik Tuning for the first time not that long to get his Unichip tuned for 20psi (as his unichip was tuned for 16-17psi) and when they gave him a prinout of his power/AFR and power/MAP to show that it was on 20psi he thought it was all sweet (but a bit down on power 195rwkw compared to 222rwkw) until he drove it home only to see that it was back on 15psi and that it felt slower than b4. He called them up later on to ask what the deal was and they told him some crap excuse that they couldn't control boost up near 20psi so they turned it back down to 15psi and tuned it there. That's all fine, but they didn't tell him that when he picked up the car so that's dodgy if u ask me. Also, how do you figure that $300 later, your car is going slower than what it was prior to the tune. So, given this i'll let you make your own decision, but fyi, you won't go wrong with Ben from RacePace Motorsport and your money will be very well spent. He is a gun when it comes to Skylines and Power FCs not to mention all other ECU's and he takes a lot of pride in his work. FYI, he is the guy that tuned Leewah's GTR which made 495rwkw at the MAS in his R33 GTR. He also built his R33 GTR which is making a shit load of power aswell.

-
thanks for that EVOIV. btw, have you read your PM's yet??
-
thanks for your reply EVOIV. did u get max. boost at 3500rpm or is that when boost starting coming in? what other mods were done to the engine?
-
streetable to me is not having full boost at 5000rpm. i'd like to have a nice spread of torque/power throughout the mid-range rpm. which exhaust housing do you have on your GT3040?
-
Thanks for that Merli. The reason i ask is that i was thinking of going for the Trust T67-25G (8cm exhaust housing) on my 2L and was wondering if it will be streetable and at the same time be able to produce reasonable and streetable hp.
-
come guys, surely someone knows something about Trust turbos.
-
HI folks, As i'll be looking for a turbo (streetable although with ability to produce ~250rwkw) for my Sierra Cosworth, i was just wondering if anyone has done a comparison (practical/theoretical) between any of the Trust T67 and the equivalent HKS GTxx turbos? i know that the HKS turbos have the advantage of the ball-bearing cartiridges and the 'new' design wheels/housings, although, not many people talk about the trust range of turbos even though most of the big hp GTRs and Supras in Japan run single Trust turbos. Does anyone know the actual hp the T67 can support? anyway, thanks in advance for your help. cheers, RS500.

after fitting the intercooler, maybe you should consider getting the Power-FC re-tuned with someone else as the power sounds a bit low for what you have on the car what spec's is your hi-flow turbo anyway? these days, 'hi-flow' is a very very broad term.
-
i'd definitely go for a nice FMIC (GTR core is good) as this would free up the already restricted air-flow from the hi-flow turbo and allow for a cooler charge which would also increase horsepower.

hi guy's, just got a pioneer deck for sale. It's a KEH-P7850 tape deck (flip down face), detatchable face, and comes with remote control. selling for: $150 ono pics should be up soon!!!
