  1. I had a cam stick bust on me once, could be that, I actually thought of that when I first saw your post, but discounted it because you had no noise turning the motor over. keep us posted
  2. Was the stalling part of the problem? If it wasn't for the stalling I'd have said a stuck solonoid on the starter motor. But its more like your clutch and flywheel.
  3. There are 'series 3' RB25's [it really only applies to RB26's], they are the last of the 25's and they are basically the same but with a few small differences, they are still called a series 2. They are not as distinctive as the RB26 3's. There are rumours about Neo cross overs, and bigger valves etc etc etc, but I haven't actually seen one like it yet. So I'd say they are just rumours, although the CAS and cam ends are definitely different. Don't think they are Neo though. RB25's only have variable timing on the inlet side, exhaust side is fixed [live pulley centres notwithstanding]. I wouldn't think you'd have to run 'less' timing because its a '97 25. Do a search, there is likely a FAQ around here telling you the differences from a series 2 proper.
  4. or they thought you had a RB26
  5. cos they didn't get the whole story maybe, like bubba said, hydraulic lifters don't need checking they pump up and hold when you start up your car. They only need replacing when they are shagged. ie don't hold pressure
  6. springs don't last anyway, they stretch and loose their temper, better off wiring it on.
  7. pm me, but i'm not in ACT
  8. I don't understand.................they go hard [easily as hard as most modern cars], they have all the fruit - abs, climate control, power eveything etc etc, they have one of the biggest after market support bases so you can get just about anything you want, they still look absolutely the best [i actually hate the modern all angles and sharp creases], they are as or more reliable than a modern, tuned right you get over 500km out of a tank on the highway [and pushing 280+rwkw], they pull crowds like free plasma tv's, they handle as good as anything out there, if you write it off [prang, stolen, fire] your only down $15K and a good cry, and the list goes on............why would you want to sell??? At the present rate I reckon it will take the rest of the car industry a couple of light years to catch up. The only threat to the skyline market is the new GTR. Once it becomes s/h and cheaper, it will overtake and out strip the market [trust me I've seen this with other makes and types], but that is at least 10 years away.
  9. Who'd you get the car off? if they are on here and known by other members, you can get the low down. Names and addresses aren't cool to post, but the general area and car description etc might help, jus a thought.
  10. 3rd graph, a/f looked Ok up high, a lttle bit lean, but ramping up the a/f looked way lean
  11. Where I think he considers it failed is because he wanted it to act like a highly strung sports car at all speeds, not just when it was pushed to its limit - which I might add he thinks he didn't find. To me this is refinement, for such a car to be able to be used as a daily driver and do this with ease, and yet still be a precise and exciting sports car at speed, what more could you ask for?
  12. air filter? not likely, but....
  13. turn your aircon off and see if the noise still happens
  14. Can you tell me how long my piece of string should be? motor condition, type of use/abuse all move the goal posts. Why would you want to anyway, a stock R33 has no real power in the top end anyway. Cos, you could R+D it and then tell everyone how long it lasted............
  15. I've got the 'C' spanners, but I'm not coming to ACT this weekend, sorry. If someone I know gets in touch, I can send them - best i can do.
  16. I like the Black R34, but I urge caution settling on one model [unless it is the very first ever model, but in the case of the ACT it is not relevant]. The banner needs to be very generic, you don't want to loose or disenfranchise owners of other models, remember this may be your only 'calling card' at shows etc and the general joe bogg will believe everything he reads [unless it involves money]. Not everyone that walks past the banner is going to enquire about its significance. And I'd hold out for a 3 x 1, the banner needs presence, you don't want to look amatuerish with a small postage stamp one. I wonder if you might be better off with a shot or caricature of a Bathurst winning R32??? in a ACT setting {it pains me to say that, I'm a R33 man}. Once again one model, but one the public remember maybe??
  17. Install an oil catch can and you don't need to worry about it.
  18. Fully synthetic oils actually aren't as affected by the cooler temps. that is one of their great advantages. If your car is tuned and not over fueling or used for any trackwork and your using full synthetic, 10,000km. Many modern car makers actually recommend 20+K km servicing for their products.
  19. if your not installing Cams, then cam gears help. If you iuntend installing cams later, then cam gears are unnecessary.
  20. Sorry, no, but I don't call it loud, more of a subdued rumble. But I realise thats no good to you, you need hard evidence. My second muffler is a wider oval shape than your's, the inlet vs outlet is also more offset.
  21. 3.5" exhaust and stockish cat, anyway. Mine has 90mm OD with 4"catco cat, resonator [brand unknown], inline exhaust [brand unknown] and HKS Hyper 6" cannon type and no power choking issues that I'm aware of. Sounds like you have almost the same. Maybe try a resonator?
  22. Do you have a resonator and cat? what size, that will affect the final dB.
  23. oil pick up problem maybe, so oil starvation, but I thought the pickup was to the rear anyway. What power are you making?
  24. Hks made by Garrett to Hks specs, so made in USA, ball bearing turbo, say $3000 for a kit. KKR made by KKR in Korea, bush turbo, say $800 plus water/oil lines $250. Give or take a few $$. If your poor, and don't intend keeping the car - or inversely the turbo - forever, go the KKR. If you can afford it go the HKS, its like comparing an excel to a corolla, you get what you pay for. HPI had a write up on the KKR a while ago, issue 84.
