  1. I won't hijack Steve's thread, see my new one!
  2. Don't listen to me...............I just found out my turbo is not a std one at all, I don't know what it is [a mongrel probably], all I know is that it came from japan on the car.........jeez I'd like to be living next to someone with a std so I can compare turbo's right about now!!!! Royston Vasey is a long way from anywhere!!!
  3. Al, I've got an adj. cam pulley on the exhaust side only, had it before I bought the cams. Now that I have got the cams, my pulley is reset to zero degrees. You don't really need the adj. pulley with the cams, they are dialed in OK from tomei. If money is no problem then get one, you may be able to squeeze out an extra kw or two by setting the pulley up +/- 1 or two degrees, but don't be surprised if all you did was blow your $$$$ and the cams are best at zero degrees.
  4. Hksusa and another site http://www.racecarnewmedia.co.uk/hks/installation.htm in europe used to host manuals. I also can send the manuals I have, but I have the next model on, the III/IV, it has the knob and the four buttons so it looks like a IV, but a master reset and repower only work if you use the III instructions. Also:the ignition has to be on.....not on accessories, but actually on without the motor running for it all to work [i was a slow learner, took me a while to 'read' the instructions instead of thinking I had read them].
  5. Damn, learn something every day......... I'd still like to know what turbo I have then [made 240rwkw with very good midrange before tomei cams], so must be half Ok? Reckon i'll have to take it off and send it to GCG or somebody and see. Can't take it to anyone here, I'm the only skyline within a 100km.
  6. More pics of my[stery] turbo
  7. You can't really run an adjustable with vvt on the inlet on a 25det. You can run with one on the exhaust. You take the ignition pickup and front cover off, slide the belt off, take off the old pulley, put the new pulley on, index the cams to the motor, reinstall the belt, put the cover back on, and then time the ignition. There is no use doing any of this until you have other mods [fmic, ex, pod, pfc etc] and then it is best done when your at a dyno so that you can set the live centre of the exhaust pulley up for best results and map your pfc to the amount of retard you have dialed in.
  8. Its not a VL turbo as far as I know. It came from japan with that turbo. GCG didn't say anything about the type of turbo when I had it hiflowed. The invoice says GTS-T Turbocharger Part Nymber #713255-11 - if thats any help. Can anyone post a pic of the rear of a std turbo?
  9. Exhaust temp sensor.
  10. I always thought it was a std turbo for a '98 Gtst, but I guess I'm wrong. Yes, the wastegate valve is built into the the cast iron dump flange housing. The dump pipe I have is an aftermarket one that came with the car, it bolts to the cast iron flange housing, it is not a split one, so I was hoping to upgrade, but I guess this will not happen [unless I also upgrade the turbo].
  11. Thanks SteveL and Mr Italy.......... But to install a split dump pipe I would have thought that you would have to remove the rear housing for access to the exhaust and waste air? Then you split them using the split dump, I'm getting a bit confused now!!! The dump looks Ok except for no mounting hole, and Just Jap has the same kit advertised, so the split dump is definitely for a skyline.
  12. No, 02 sensor is further back and only just in shot, this is the adjustable arm from the vacuum to the wastegate housing.
  13. I am trying [in my amatuerish way] to install a split dump. But I notice that the split dump has no mounting hole for the wastegate actuator arm from the vacuum???? [is this what it is]. If there is no hole, can I use this dump??? The turbo is my std one with a GCG highflo job. PS Didn't even notice this until I had half the inlet etc taken off.............doh!
  14. nismo 555cc injectors and a GCG hiflo plus other mods = 240rwkw at 60% duty cycle. Must admit I didn't install the injectors, but as best I can tell they are nismo 555's. They are yellow top ones, the only mob that I can find that makes this colour is nismo, and the only size that is yellow is 555cc. [Now I'll wait for ppl to tell me how wrong I am......lol]. I've got to get back to Ed and a dyno and tune for my nismo fuel pump [get rid of the walbro], hard intake, split dump and tomei cams. Soon I hope, but its all in the timing [pun intended....]
  15. I'd think about closing the plug gap to 0.7 or 0.8, but at only 10psi I can't see this being your problem. If your getting a stutter at 5000 I'd be checking plugs, coils, fuel pump and injectors, make sure they are all working OK. I'd also be checking the simple things, air filter, fuel filter etc.

  17. Anneal=use a gas torch [or your mums gas stove], dangle the copper washer on a bit of thin tie wire, let it get cherry red with the heat, then dunk it in a cup of cold water. This process softens the copper and restores its sealing properties. A metalurgist will tell you that the heating and rapid cooling re-aligns the crystal structure in the metal. It is [very] good practiser to do this with all copper washers/gaskets before using them, even new ones should be done. The manufacture processes [metal rollers and metal stamps] tend to work harden the metal. Added to this the washers could have been bumped around when shipped out to the warehouse where they laid around for months in the atmosphere absorbing oxygen etc which also adds to the hardness/brittleness. Annealing fixes all this up. Older cars and motorcycles [pre 1960's] regularly used copper head gaskets, manifold gaskets, washers etc, these gaskets were annealed and used again and again with every rebuild and worked fine.
  18. Why don't you just anneal the old ones and re-use them??? Too easy [if you've got them that is].
  19. Any you lads want to buy my purple filter element as a spare? $10 + postage. I actually went over to light blue 'dry' type elements [talking HKS mushroom pods here].

  24. I know someone that drove a new vehicle back from a capital city with a 7 day permit. Sped through every speed camera he could find just to frustrate the law!!! Vehicle was unregistered - with a 7 day permit - no number plates!!!! Bet the camera's took a lot of really nice photo's though.
